I've said before that I weigh officially every two weeks, but because I'm a curious little bunny, I check the scale constantly - several times a day when I'm home on vacation, and a minimum of every morning when I wake up. And I never let what the scale says bother me during those interim days between official weighs - though I do celebrate like crazy when there's a drop. Here's why:
You can't actually gain 3 lbs in a day. Not of fat. It has to be water. Any physician will tell you so.
You can't get dehydrated on this woe if you drink a minimum of 64 oz of water a day. Therefore, any low weight is not a sign of dehydration. Bear with me, here.
Last Friday, I was at 224. Woo hoo! That's an 11 lb. drop from my first day - unbelievable for me, because I never lose 11 lbs on induction. Celebration time!
On Saturday, I was at 227. Was I bummed? No, because I was still counting the weight at 224. That was my "working weight" , as it was the lowest it's been since I started. The extra 3 lbs? Water. Would come off the next day, or 2 days later - whenever.
Sunday? I was back to 225. monday? 224. Yesterday? 222. WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Today? 224 - but I still count it as 222, remember. The extra 2 is now water.
I only count the lowest weight. I never sweat the higher ones - they are always just water and will come off in a flash.
So why does my body do this? down, then up, then down again, then up slightly, then farther down? Probably my body retains water to compensate for a loss of fat - sort of filling in the lost areas with water until it feels like it's "safe" to let it all go.
Here's how I envision it: 2 lbs of fat goes "whoosh". Within 24 hours, my body says "oh, hello! We've got a loss of fat here......" and fills in the missing areas with water. That water is probably CLEANSING. It's catching all of the enzymes and bits of fat cells, etc., that were left behind that I don't need anymore. It may take 48-72 hours to do the cleansing, but what do I care? It's doing the cleaning.
And when it's done............it comes out, and I start the process again.
