  • Need encouragement

I love the post about not letting the scale get me down, but sometimes I just can't help it!

Today is day five for me of a clean induction. It has been over six months since I tried atkins at all. I have completely re-read many chapters of the book and I just know that I am doing everything perfectly. I was on this WOE about three years ago and I reached goal, so I know that it works. Sigh.

Having said that, day three of induction the scale showed a three pound loss. Day four the scale jumped back up to start weight. Day five the scale is still at start weight.

I am glad that I have not gained!! I have been eating such yummy foods and staying full, BUT I was hoping for better.

    How can I stay motivated???

    Re: Need encouragement

You've done this before, so you just need a couple of reminders. As you say, don't let the scales rule, in fact, only weigh Once a Week. Instead may I suggest MEASUREMENTS!!! They are a better guage any day of the week. At the very least, find a set of clothes that are too tight, and try them on Once a Week to check your progress.

Keep your chin up and any time you're tempted, remind yourself why you're doing this.

      Re: Need encouragement

Stay off the scale until your2 week of Induction are done. Take your measurements today!! Then remeasure when the 2 weeks of Induction are done.

I've had a slow weight loss but have lost a ton of inches. Seeing the number of inches lost keeps me going. Coming to the ADBB helps keep me motivated & the words of encouragement are priceless.

Don't get discouraged! This is a great WOE & the ultimate goal is to be happy & healthy!!

      Have a great day!

        Re: Need encouragement

Thanks to you both for posting so quickly. I usually have to wait for most of the folks in the US to wake up.

I did measure on day one, so will definitely wait until day fourteen is done and check my measurements.

I am committed to this WOE for the month of September without fail or cheat, even if I do not lose a pound!

If you want to stay motivated stay off the scale. Even give it the full month. You have commited to all of September anyway so why even mess with the scale.........

            Re: Need encouragement

Yawn! Just waking up here in the U.S. LOL! I agree with not weighing yourself for 2 weeks, but I also know that it's not something that I could ever do! I didn't measure until I'd been doing this for several weeks, but now I wish that I had, so it's good that you did measure. That, alone, will give you lots of encouragement. Also, when the scales down and back up, think about what you've eaten. It's highly unlikely that you've actually eaten enough to gain several pounds of FAT, so it's probably just water weight. Drink lots of water and stay away from salty foods and you'll be back down. Unless of course it's that time of the month! Then you have to be patient, but you'll be rewarded with a few pounds lost.

                Thank you, thank you!!

So, guess what? I just had a little bit of time getting dressed and I decided what the heck and I remeasured myself?

I measured in six different places and in every one of them, I am down a quarter of an inch. A little more in my belly pooch!

Is this possible? I feel like it has to be because I did not look at what I measured before, just compared after...

In any case, great advice. I feel so much better. I definitely feel like keepin on, keeping on!!

Thanks, seriously. You guys save me every time.

                  Re: Need encouragement

Hey girl, you seem so motivated by numbers....use the numbers that really count, day 1, day 2, day 3, day 30, day 50....you won't be able to keep up with all the results, if you stay close to numbers that really cause us to change our behavior to reach them...
You know what I mean, you are a PRO at this! Put the scale away for 30 days, and relax and enjoy good foods, getting use to water and exercise! That's what I would suggest!

                    Re: Need encouragement

Jess has a point. If you're motivated by numbers count the days and not the lbs. I have a calendar in my kitchen and every night I mark off the day if I'm on plan, so far so good. It just feels good knowing I'm sticking to it. I gave up on numbers, it was just tormenting me.
But I know it's easier said than done, just have patience. The weight will come off if you're doing this correctly.

                        Hey, Shannon -

Well, I think that for someone who weighs daily, putting the scale away for 2 weeks is unrealistic. Just not gonna happen at my house, anyway!

Definately take your measurements every week if you find that is motivating.

I know what it's like to go days without losing and worse than that, to go UP and STAY up for days. Very frustrating. So............

Focus on how you FEEL. Energy? Sense of well-being? healthy?

Focus on the days.....do a count.

Focus on how things fit. Slightly looser? Coolness.

Every day we get stronger and more firmly into this woe. Regardless of what the scale says.

                        Hang in there!

Tape Measure: I've lost 42.5 inches as of 3/15/2008

                        Mini goals:

                          Re: Need encouragement

                          Thanks all,

I do know that I am tracking because I remember how it "feels" to be on this WOE. I remember the energy and the feeling of "slimness" that comes and I am feeling it now.

I do wish the scales would cooperate, but I hear what you are saying about it being a numbers game and my number is FIVE! Day five. I am not going to lie, though. I weigh myself everyday. My challenge is getting enough water in during the day. I cannot add a no-weigh challenge to that.

I am sticking it through. I hit a rough patch today, but I never did think about cheating. Thanks to your support.

                          So, yes, feeling much better!!

If you are going to let the scale measure your mood...Get rid of it One time I went away for the weekend.. Dance competition.. I worked sooooooo hard staying on track.. I didn't eat anything off track.. I came home and weighed and I was up 6lbs! I was so upset..depressed ready to quit.. Well a little came off the next day..a little more the next..and in like a week I lost 10lbs.. so that was the 6 and 4 more and I didn't do anything different..

Now I just use the scale as a gauge...

If you have a camera (digital or regular) use that as proof of weight change instead of your scale----you'll probably have more fun with it too.

People like us have a hard time noticing our subtle changes and we always feel that we are larger than others see us. The camera never lies!! Pick out a tight outfit and take a pic every few days in it, or every week, etc. Then string them all together to see the progress. It's good concrete evidence you ARE losing, no matter what that flippy scale says.
