I never really gave much thought to calories, but i judt recently decided to check out fit day and I found out I have been eating 500 to 600 calories a day. I know that is way bad but I just dont have the urge to eat any more, my stomach never growls. I really need to bring up my cals...
I usually have about 1600-1700 cal/day. I have noticed lately that my fat percentage is sometimes a little low. My favorite way to correct this is eating avocado--a half of a California (black) avocado has 13 G of fat and only 2 net carbs. Plus, the fat is mostly the healthy monounsaturated kind. Just picked up some avocados today--they were on "sale" for only .50 each!!

Yes if you don't bring up your calories you are not going to lose weight.. Add things like Mayo, Butter or oil to whatever you are eating and that will help with the calories
Hello Mrs. S Another way to bring up your fat ratio is to incorporate more MUFAS (monounsaturated fats) into your woe. Pam pointed out one of them which is avacados. we're allowed 1/2 of an avacado a day. Another is olives, we're allowed 10 to 20 olives a day. When you're in Rung 3 seeds and nuts, those are another great MUFA to bring up your fat ratio. Also, as someone suggested, olive oil. These will also help bring up your calorie count. Sherri

When you're choosing an avacado to eat, make sure it's soft to the touch. If there still hard they will be good to eat in a few days. I like to just cut them in half and eat them right out of there skin with a spoon. You can also make a shrimp or chicken salad to fill in where the seed was and eat then like that. Or you can dice or slice them onto your green salad. So Yummy either way. Enjoy! Sherri

For each avocado, you need:
1 clove garlic
1/2 tsp salt (I use sea salt)
1/2 tsp pepper
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (less if you want, I love spicy food)
Scoop out avocado, place in food processor, add garlic and spices, process until "mushy". You can also substitute garlic powder, and just mash the avocado on a plate with the spices. I love to mix fresh salsa with this, or add chopped tomato and cilantro. You can eat this alone, but I LOVEEEEEEEE to put this on taco salads, or on grilled chicken, or as a topping for fajita fillings.
I really struggle with keeping my fat percentage high enough and eating enough calories. I simply am not hungry but I have to remember that with this diet, it is the combination of foods that is the magic. Last weekend I ended up eating WAY too much bacon and had a calorie count OVER 5500 for one day. I just about died when I figured it out. Bacon is no longer in the house because I obviously have no self control. I dont like olives or mayo so I have to be creative. I dont have the answer yet but I am working on it.

To Slinginmom and DigitalMocking,
I've just restarted this Aktins WOL but the first time I went on was after the birth of my second son nearly 8 years ago. I am a big believer in breastfeeding and too both boys as far as they would go. I read everything I could on this topic. I didn't find much credibility in the critics.
I read that milk production would go down, the milk might get ketones, and so forth. I started testing my milk with ketostrips. There seemed no link. I found that the effect of the rapid initial weightloss slowed down production temporarily but it came back once I was on a more steady path.
Think about this. Early humans would have led very much an Atkins life. This is the design of our body! And breastfeeding is also the most natural thing in the world. How could it possibly be bad.
Don't worry about breastfeeding on Atkins. Just make sure that you drink a LOT of water.
sherri and julirama- i went out and bought a few avocados yesterday!! was thinking about both of you haha as i picked them out and thought about making some guacamole.

Here is the most delicious high fat, high taste avocado recipe.
Cut avo in half and remove stone
Place on a baking tray and put in oven (low 160'C) for approx 20 mins
Meanwhile, fry some pancetta or bacon (cut in to little chunks) until crispy (I use chilli olive oil). Add 1 clove garlic (optional). When crispy drain fat off (optional) and add approx 2 tbsp heavy cream and stir in to bacon. Then add a small handful of cheddar cheese and stir. Take avocado out of oven. Spoon in bacon mixture and enjoy!
Fitday makes it 478 cals, 44g fat (83%) 16g protein and 4 net carbs. It does not taste sickly and you can eat it on it's own or with a small salad. YUM! Zx
