  • I have a rant

I know that at least some of you have encountered this before, so I'm hoping for some commiseration.

I've been doing very well. Not one bite of anything off-limits. And I'm down 11 pounds as of today. But today at lunch, two of the girls in my office decided to really push me to my limit.

We were sitting around the conference table, like we usually do at lunch. We had a visit from a carpet vendor showing us her wares and she brought a big box of cookies. We get that often. Fabric vendors, furniture vendors, you name it, and they all bring something. Sometimes it's a full lunch and sometimes is desserts, but it's always something.

Aaaanyway, all the girls were grabbing those cookies and honestly, I really didn't want one, but the still tried to get me to take one. Then one of the girls pipes in and says, "everything is fat free when you go ride a bike afterward" To which I replied, "I'm not cutting out fat - I'm cutting out unhealthy carbs and refined sugar." She made the "sucking on a lemon" face. Then it started.

Another girl chimed in, insisting that Dr. Atkins died of a heart attack. When I tried to explain that she was misinformed, she started pointing her finger and yelling.

What on earth is wrong with some people? I was just trying to eat my lunch in peace and I certainly didn't say anything to them with their cookies and fast food lunches.

        I didn't have a cookie. I didn't want one.

And I agree with you about sticking to my guns. It's just difficult to not get involved in their arguments when they are literally yelling at you. I was just floored. I've never had to defend myself over a meal before.

From the sound of it, you didn't give in. Good for you. I'm sorry you had to deal with that, that's pretty ridiculous. Some people get so mad and defensive when they don't want to admit what they are doing is not working (i.e. They're probably not losing as fast or as pleastantly as you). They just need to get over it and you need to keep on keeping on. They'll wish they didn't eat those cookies when you are at goal eating a tasty FAT FULL meal!!!!

Sorry you had to deal with morons. Ignorance doesn't need to be tolerated~~~I guess if it happens again I would just get up & leave the room. Hold your head high & stick to your guns. You will get the last laugh when you reach your goal!!

Thanks. But has this not happened to any of you?

Oh - and I have this determination that I haven't had in a long time. It's weird. I'm older and like they say - times does fly. But the plus of that is that a week of being on plan goes by in a flash!

Hang in there. People apparently love to hate the Atkins WOE. I really can't imagine why. Don't tell anyone anymore. They will all know they are stupid b*$()#s when you are walking around in your size 2 jeans and they are eating donuts.

Yes, it has happened to me, but only to the point of livid anger to a girl over the internet who was a vegetarian. No one ever made me pissed off, just shocked that they could be so against somethng they had no clue about.

Ahhh, size 2. I don't think I've ever been a 2. I wasn't a fat kid, but I wasn't skinny. I went from girls sizes into juniors, but missing the 2s altogether. Wow, that would be niiiice! But I will be happy when I'm no longer in 14s and I'm back in my 8s.

I have found it is often worse to try to defend what I am doing. Because people like this are ignorant and will never believe what you say anyway, I just say-no thanks I am full, or no thanks, my stomach hasn't felt quite right so I don't want to eat anything. (whichever one works best for the situation). It is ridiculous that I have to make up a story but it beats conflicts with morons. I truly believe that folks like that don't have the willpower and they resent those of us that do have it.

I don't bother saying what plan I'm on. I work with fat-free diet worshippers. I just tell them I'm staying away from complex carbs and sugars, etc. I always get a great response when I say that. I don't think anyone I work with would start an argument over it but it would definately be a long drawn out "Oh you shouldn't eat that way cause it's blah blah blah" conversation and it's just not worth it to me.

Oh yes, it's happened to me...lots! Everyone has something to say about how dangerous it is, and how wrong it is, and how no one ever keeps the weight off because as soon as you stop doing it all the weight comes back. Duh! Of course it would come back when you go to eating all the wrong things. It's sad. They even argue with me about not wanting to drink...it's like junior high all over again!

I always fall back on my blood sugar issue (which is true). People don't usually don't argue too much about blood sugar issues, but I don't use the "A" word to very many people anymore.
