  • First day and I know I've screwed up

Ok, so I'm here, yet again. I lost 70 pounds last year on Atkins. I know it works. But there are two things I'm having a hard time giving up, and it makes me feel like a failure already. I tend to be very all or nothing. So here it is, my confession: I'm hooked on coffee with liquid hazelnut creamer. Tried heavy whipping cream last night -- I'd just as soon not have coffee. And I'm one of those people who drinks their coffee "blonde." I often drink two pots a day. I know that's put a lot of weight on me. The other thing is cigarettes.

I drank the coffee today because my fiance made it. Tomorrow I think I will skip it completely. Can I really say today is my first day of Induction if I drank the creamer? I'm used to having bacon and sausage for breakfast, but I've never been all that strict on the sugar, nitrate, etc. issues. I want to do a truly clean induction, but I'm scared. I'm scared I'll fail again and not even do the halfway induction I've always done.

This is what today's menu looks like:

    Bfast:
one cup of regular coffee, 4 tbsp coffeemate hazelnut sugarfree creamer, 1 pack splenda
    two scrambled eggs
    four slices bacon (regular Zeigler)

    Lunch:
1/2 cup pumpkin with cinammon, 1 pack splenda, cinammon, 1 tbsp butter

    Supper:
    Bubba burger
    2 cups baby spinach
    one tbsp butter

    Calories: 940. Protein: 49. Fat: 72.5. Carbs: 20.

Am I just wasting my time? I want to switch to either black decaf or no coffee at all. Finding healthy bacon and sausage is proving to be a real trick. Is the stuff you buy straight from the butcher guaranteed to not have all these extra ingredients ie. sugar, etc?

I'm all or nothing too, but as I've aged, I've had to "take baby steps" into things. How bout instead of completely doing away with coffee and creating a huge headache for yourself, how bout if you water it down, and or skip just a cup today....Water it down and skip a cup tomorrow. Or how bout starting to mix in decaf. I did that, I started mixing regular with decaf and for a while I know I reduced my coffee intake. Now I also lost 85lbs drinking coffee daily. I usually drink 2 or 3 cups a day.
I'm not a big "Starbucks" fan, where I have to have it that strong or expensive. Just my home joe works for me....
As far as cigarettes go, be very careful about giving up two HIGHLY addicting things at the same time.....
Baby steps, pick one and slowly deal with it, and win! Then refocus and attempt the next one!

Try hazelnut flavored coffee with heavy cream. If you can wean yourself off caffeine, it's available in decaf.

I didnt know that the sugar-free coffeemates were bad I use the vanilla caramel one.

However, I found that coffee with some heavy cream, and splenda makes these flavored-splenda packets (they have hazelnut), and ice. Or if I'm out of the flavored splenda packets, I use the torani sugar free syrups - in moderation of course. But that way you have a creamer that is totally legal because it doesnt have that high fructose corn syrup stuff.

I, too, have a problem giving up coffee. Especially when the morning's get cold.

Oh, and on the meats - Hormel has an "all natural" line where they dont have nitrates or sugar in their bacon and lunch meats. Don't know about sausages though

You could always try the heavy cream with the sugar free hazelnut da vinci syrup...I like that occassionally(I am not a coffee drinker so when I do I tend to load it up)
