  • Is there a TTAC, FTAC, or just STAC?

Hi all. Returning loser here (of weight that is), at least I'm trying to convince myself. It's been a year of non-stop GAINING. I'm up 25 lbs from this time last year, after having successfully lost 70 lbs, and having maintained for a year. Now, I can't seem to stop gaining. I've started over an over again, and after about a month of induction, I don't see more than a 2 lb result. And if I fall off the wagon for just 1 day (usually from alcoholic beverages at a special occasion) I'll gain like 5 lbs - only 3 will come and the remaining 2 stay around to accumulate in my failure.

I began my weight gain when I quit smoking, a 20 year habit and addiction. Then I discovered a chocolate addiction. Then I don't know what but I remember re-starting over and over and not getting results. I figured this just won't work for me anymore, and maybe my body is on to me and won't cooperate. So I've been on an off of low-calorie diets. I swear I was eating under 1200 calories a day for 2 weeks and didn't lose a pound.

I recently started over again...even have a couple of girls at work doing it. It's great for support and because there's a never-ending supply of pork grinds at all times. The newbies are seeing results. They didn't read the book, they just come to me for all the do's and don'ts. Meanwhile, the veteran here can't lose a pound. what's wrong with me? why can't i kick start this thing? I only need to lost the 25 I gained. Why does it seem so hard. I'm a month into already and see no results at all....

so frustrated, and i don't want to leave the WOL.
    Lola

    Welcome lola.

Please don't get frusterated. Every one looses different maybe you should post some menus (on the menu thread) and let some people evaluate them? You have to be realistic and have a clean by the book induction. Are you in ketosis?

Also as you have less to loose your body fights harder to hang on to it.

Don't know if I'm in ketosis. I haven't bought ketostix, but I will tomorrow. I guess that would help to see where I am. I'll start keeping a journal to post...thanks.

Re: Is there a TTAC, FTAC, or just STAC?

        Lola,

I don't keep my food on-line at fit day but I do keep a notebook of everything and I keep track of the carbs, fat, protein etc. I know this is my zillionth attempt. The main part of the whole atkins theory is have this become part of your life. That way if you decide to indulge you can know how to deal with your body's reaction.

For whatever reason this induction has been great for me. I feel like I am in familiar territory and it is easier to make the right choices. I know what works and what doesn't. Cheating and eating sugar free processed food is bad for me. Atkins shakes are bad for me (they don't fill me and cause cravings later).

This is a journey to learn about your self. Patience grasshoper you too will loose. Drink your water, eat your allowed foods, and get your exercise and things will happen.

My secret weapon food is eggs. I never eat them when I am not on plan. I literally hate eggs. However I choke them down for Atkins because I always loose better when I eat a few a day. Yesterday I think I had 5. I had an omlette and egg salad.

        Hang in there

yes, eggs were great for me first time around. so were bk burgers! I think I may be too salty this time..pork rinds and sausage links have been a common denominator these days. i think i'll try eggs and burgers again!

Re: Is there a TTAC, FTAC, or just STAC?

I'm at witts end. Not a pound. It's been 2 REAL straight weeks of induction. My ketosticks are pink (between light and moderate) but I haven't lost a pound. I haven't measured but my clothes don't feel better. I drastically reduced the caffeine (1 -2 cups regular - then a thermos of decaf). I noticed crystal light was brining me down in color on the sticks, so I cut that out immediately. I'm down to eggs, burgers, meats, and a package of veggies with my dinner. I don't understand why I can't kick start this time around.

The good news is that I haven't gained weight, so I'm on induction to maintain? I'm so so so frustrated. I've been at this since early December and I can't my groove back. I recently started some exercise to see if it works, but other than that, I feel doomed forever.

I've gained 25 lbs trying to restart this diet. I end up giving up and gaining 5 lbs each time I give up. Is it possible that this just doesn't work anymore for me?

Get out your copy of the book and see if you are actually going from poor memory or if you are doing it by the book. Also post your menu. I have a feeling that you are not being accurate on your carbs. I package od vegi??? What does that mean/how much what kinds etc. You may be restricting your calories or over doing them. We cant help you if you cant post an accurate menu.

Quitting is not an option. How will you ever know how great you an do if you give up.

Re: Is there a TTAC, FTAC, or just STAC?

for example, today i had 4 deviled eggs (used mayo and mustard). I had a cup of coffee and 4 carbs with my sugar free french vanilla creamer and 1 splenda. For lunch I had a double whopper with cheese (w/ketchup mayo onions tomatoes). for dinner I'll have salmon, seasoned w/garlic, herbs and some lemon. I have been keeping it simple to meats, fish, poultry. I may or may not have veggies. the veggie packs are mixed steamed veggies, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots. I usually try to eliminate the carrots though. I eat the whole package so the carb count is usually 12. If I have veggies at all, it's usually my hight carb count for the day.

another example, yesterday i at 2 boiled eggs for breakfast and my coffee prepared as above. I had rotisserie chicken for lunch and steak for dinner. later i had hot green tea with 1 splenda, and some redi whip (enough to fill a coffee mug).

Could there be a lack of carbs? do I need the carbs to lose?

I did re-read the book which is why i paid attention to the splenda and caffeine intake, which never gave me trouble before. I also cut out the pork rinds because that wasn't something i did much before either and i figured the sodium may be hurting me. I mean - I didn't even have to be that strict the 1st time and I lost 70lbs. i'm feeling like without excercise I'm not going anywhere.

It's so hard to not have a drink at certain occasions because I know it will hinder my weight loss. Meanwhile, there is no loss. These are my crashing moments. I already tasted success and I cant get it back. I feel terrible.

I am a newbie here but you might be having too many veggies and not enough fat. The fat is important. There are several good threads about the effect of increasing the fat load speeds up the weight loss. I know it seems counterintuitive.
