    Re: Has anyone tried Truvia?

I usually mix stevia with erythritol or xylitol. perfect sweetness.

btw, truvia is DELICIOUS. they use part of the stevia, and the bulking agent is erythritol instead of yucky maltodextrin. I really, really like it.

      Re: Has anyone tried Truvia?

Truvia is Rebana (sp?) mixed with erythritol. From what the manufacture says they dry the stevia leaves and then steep them in water. They purify (same process as they use on water) the resulting liquid (Rebana) and add erythritol (sugar alcohol) to make Truvia. From what I understand the stevia plant can have really sweet areas and bitter areas. Their process of only using the leaves and adding erythritol (sugar alcohol) makes the product more consitant in flavor. I did try 1 packet last night in a cup of hot tea and was pleased with the flavor. No bitterness and the same sweetness as if I had added about 2 teaspoons of sugar.

My daughter at a packet with some fresh sliced strawberries and said it tasted like sugar to her.

So now I will see if it affects my weight loss. I will not consume more than 1 packet per day.

        Re: Has anyone tried Truvia?

it just surprises me how people are so quick to ingest chemicals without thinking twice about it, but when a natural low-glycemic (if not zero on the glycemic index) sweetner comes around, everyone is afraid to try it! no offense intended AT ALL, we all have to figure out what works, of course.

see, to me, splenda tastes bad, just a notch above aspartame. truvia just tastes clean and sweet, no bitter stevia taste in the least..

          Re: Has anyone tried Truvia?

I have been using Stevia for sometime. I actually grew some in my garden this past summer, but never got around to doing anything with it. I bought the packets of it - also comes in french vanilla Stevia flavor. I like the flavor - no aftertaste. It does seem to be a bit more expensive than Splenda - at least around where I live.

Ok.. Stevia has 0 carbs and 0 calories. Sweetleaf brand stevia is 0 carbs and 0 calories. When I checked the Truvia box.. in the ingredients it lists something else, it was not listed as pure stevia like the Sweetleaf brand and it was not 0 carbs and 0 calories. I choose to use the Sweetleaf brand.

My next door neighbor sells the liquid sweetleaf in 15 different flavors and I got 5 different ones and a bag of xylitol made by natures sweet life. You use it in place of sugar in equal measurements. I just made my first lc cheese cake and waiting for it too cool off before eating it.

              Re: Has anyone tried Truvia?

I bought some earlier in the week. It seems very sweet and smells a little earthy. I haven't really tried it yet so the jury is still out. I did not notice an after taste like I can with Splenda btw.

OK, so I went and bought it,,,, very pricey! Like 10 cents a packet, but I think it is the best one on the market! I put it right on my tongue.... almost every bit as good as sugar and no aftertaste.

I'll keep using Splenda, though, until the price comes down some.

                  Re: Has anyone tried Truvia?

I would like to try it when I can find it. I haven't seen it yet. Splenda to me just tastes gross and it gives me huge headaches. I know it's an atkins no no but I prefer aspartame until something more to my liking comes along. I don't sweeten anything. The only exposure I have is through the diet soda and the sugar free jello and it doesn't effect my losses at all. THANK GOODNESS

it's the same principle as splenda, as in the really concentrated super sweet sweetener on a less sweet carrier. in this case it's erythritol. which is actually not bad for you.
