    NewtoAtkins-Jon, It sounds like you are spilling the ketones.... You are in ketosis. That is a normal smell when you are in ketosis. I only use the strips the first couple of weeks then I go by my breath (or urine). I do not think 1/2 slice of whole wheat toast with butter us enough to knock you out of ketosis.

    Thanks, Julie. I wasn't sure about that smell since I hadn't smelled it before. I've been in ketosis for awhile now, and my urine did smell different, but never sweet. It only smells sweet after I eat any kind of starchy carbs. I wasn't worried about the bread knocking me out...just that the smell (linked to diabetes) might mean something bad. After googling it I only found bad news on the web. I knew I shouldn't google, but I did...

      hello!

      still here, on track, etc. it's a beautiful, sunny day, but MAN is it cold!

      I've been sleeping really badly lately, and I'm not sure why. sigh. it's a struggle for me to stay awake today.

        Morning everyone! Yep... it's still morning here on the west coast!

        Apart from my miserable water intake, things continue to go well for me - down a few pounds to 208 which makes me happy... although on Sunday the scale said 206.8!! I hear ya, Julie... that scale is wicked! But I think I keep my head on pretty well regarding scale inconsistencies. I find that because I graph everything, I can see the overall downward pattern - that and the fact that I highlight one day each week as my "official" weight and I can totally see that I'm losing just fine

        When I'm in ketosis I definitely notice a difference in the smell of my pee. Sometimes, like you noticed, it does smell sweeter (not my typical in-ketosis smell) - I think I become used to the in-ketosis smell so the sweeter smell is more noticeable... in fact, I often wonder if that's the "normal" smell of my pee (i.e., when I'm off plan)... but in the end I believe it means nothing because I'm not falling out of ketosis and I continue to lose. It could be the ingestion of higher-glycemic foods that causes it... but as long as the smell doesn't become overbearing, suggesting a real problem, I'm sure everything is fine!!

        Steady (who lives in my neck of the woods) said it - it's damned cold here today!! Too cold for my liking! But the sky is blue and the sun is shining so I'll do my best to not complain.

          I had to have a root canal a few years back so I stupidly googled it - BIG MISTAKE! I saw the worst case scenario of everything - couldn't sleep

          ended up being just a regular everyday root canal!

              TJ...Nuts...ahhh....I can't wait for the nuts rung. I'm not a "pureist" I don't think...but I want to try to do this in the suggested stesp. Nuts seem so far away...*sigh*...I love your "if this is wrong, I don't wanna be right" quote....lol...I'm stealin it!

              I've actually found a pretty tasty low-carb oscar meyer dog...I should probably read the ingredients though now that I've read this thread. Dangit!

              Successfully did Atkins in 1998 using 1992 copy of the book...before it was "hip". Lost 60lbs, exercised daily, felt and looked great. And then I moved in with a junk-food loving man, my mom got sick and passed away, then I suffered a spinal cord injury, and junk-food dude left me...and now I weigh 292lbs. That's 22lbs MORE than I weighed the first time around. It's 10 years later...I know this will work for me again.

                    Jon started it . He also mentioned another one in a different thread. Now they are alternating. At least it's a change from Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers that are usually floating around in my head. Kids are great.

                      Good evening everyone, sorry I haven't posted until just now, Ive had a super busy day. Anyway, its day three of induction for me and Im feeling good, save for a pounding headache that wont go away for like the past two days. I just keep telling myself its the bad stuff leaving my body! The good news is that Im already not hungry at all. I have to keep reminding myself to eat!

                      TJ - I have a three year old stepson and we just took him to see Elmo Live like three weeks ago, so I totally feel your pain!

                        It's pretty late to be just getting to roll call but it's been a busy day. I'm finally feeling much better and actually managed to do some real exercise tonight. I hope tomorrow is better yet.

                            Hi everyone! Seems like everyone is doing well! Glad to hear. I fell off for the first time since Jan 3rd this weekend and had some trail mix that had choc chips in it....evil choc chips! Needless to say, I have never felt so crapy physically from eatting a small portion of choc! Monday sucked for that reason, now I am working on flushing out my system since I feel bloated as **** and getting back into ketosis! This time next week I hope to be back on track. Stupid....evil.....chocolate!

                                I have to share my idiot story tonight. After this true story, the few people who think I have any common sense will know I don't.

                                I made another pot of my super fiber chili tonight. I couldn't find my usual beef or chicken stock that has 0 carbs, so I bought some with 1 gram of sugar per serving. I was mad that I couldn't find any 0 carb stock. Then, I decided that I wanted a change, so I would use chicken thighs for meat. I boiled my chicken and dumped the water, then added my $3 chicken stock that had carbs. As I'm watching my free 0 carb chicken stock swirl down the drain, I decided I was an idiot. I blame Elmo. The chili does smell good though. I used rotel with habeneros instead of tomato sauce to cut down the carbs and add some spice.
