  • Roll Call 5/1/09 IT'S FRIDAY!!!

    Great news!!! It's Friday AND we get a new month for even better results!! I'd like to welcome May with open arms, knowing it HAS TO BE better than April was to me!

    Excited about the weekend off work and looking forward to lots of gardening and yard work!

      I grew up in Georgia and Kentucky and May has always been my favorite month of the year. First of all, IT'S BIRTHDAY MONTH. WOOHOO.

      And secondly, the weather is perfect. Spring has been sprung. School gets out. All the fun stuff starts. Memorial Day means summer vacation is here.

      So, 11 years ago I moved to Florida and May lost a little of its shine. One word: LOVEBUGS.

      Kind of ruined May for me. So, I'm so excited about spending my first May out of Florida for a long, long, time.

      So bring it on.

        Oh, I kinda forgot that this was a weight loss board so let me add that I'm going to Asheville the first weekend in June with some friends from high school (21 years ago) so that's my May motivation.

          Down 2 lbs today! *woot*

          I normally weigh on Saturdays, but I'm leaving for golf at 5:00 am tomorrow and won't be able to weigh before I go.

          Today is errand day. Going to get an ipod Shuffle to make it easier to wear while working out/lifting. Have to clean floors in the house, hang a curtain rod, await a furniture delivery, go to the wholesale club, and clear my decks for tonight's Bruins game on TV.

          I'll get my workout in at 8:30 this AM. I was going to get up at 6 to get it in, but those Celtics kept me up too late !
          The day always seems so much easier/pleasant when I get my workout in first thing in the AM.

            Ok, Slapshot, can you enlighten me on the whole workout in the morning thing? I do the treadmill in the evening and I'm thinking of starting jogging but I think I'd have to do it in the evening too.

            When do the rest of y'all do your workouts?

                Peeks in and waves. Hi all, May 1 is my first day restarting Atkins. I am taking it one day at a time so these rollcall threads are awesome. My goal today is to drink 128 oz of water -- i have a 64 oz cool lil drinking thing so i have to drink 2. I am starting on a Friday in hopes the caffine flu as i call it lol kicks in over the weekend and i will be okay by Monday full of energy.

                Hope everyone has a great day, i look forward to finding a lot of motivation and fun here, i was here a long time ago and it really kept me motivated and focused enough to lost 50 lbs in 2 months without a lot of struggle.

                  Actually, I was a little late today. I'm normally on it by 6:15...

                  For me, it's simple: if I don't get my workout in before work, I'll never get it in. As an attorney, sometimes 4pm quickly turns into 8pm and there's no way I can work out at 8pm and still see my family/get enough sleep, etc. So, when a crisis hits at 4pm, I don't lament losing my workout for the day (and thus feeling tempted to cheat).

                  Aside from the work issue, I find that I eat better when I've worked out because I don't want to "undo" all that hard work in the morning.

                  I go to bed around 10, and get up at 6. I will confess, however, that I am fortunate enough to have a Stairmaster and elliptical in my basement. Although the Y is just down the street, there's nothing like rolling out of bed, putting sneakers on, walking downstairs and putting my ipod on. I will say, also, that doing an early workout in the spring/summer is *much* easier than in the winter when it's dark out until 7 or 7:30...

                  Speaking of ipod, I've discovered how to transfer TV shows from my Tivo to ipod. So, every morning, I'm watching last night's TV. (e.g. this morning I watched last night's episode of the Office).

                  So, in a longwinded, roundabout answer, that's my early morning workout background

                    I see! I'm always contemplating a morning workout but haven't done it yet. Last summer when I did my little running spurt, I had to do it in the morning because no way I'm running in the afternoon, in June, in Florida. So, I'd get up and run first thing.

                    But that's during the summer when I don't have to work. Right now, I have to leave my house no later than 7. I think my treadmill is a little loud to be on at 6 in the morning so I'd have to take it outside. Still kinda dark in the woods at that time.

                    So, I'm hashing it all out. I think I would like it, it's just finding the motivation to DO IT. I know some people do morning and evening workouts. Why can't I get addicted to exercise like I can get addicted to everything else I've ever tried???

                      Oh, and I like the IPOD thing. I have a tv in front of my treadmill. But my tv is ALWAYS on Foxnews so it doesn't matter what time I do it. Although, like we've discussed before, I sometimes watch my guilty pleasure--Two and a Half Men. Or Travel Channel food shows.

                        I hear you. Joining the 6 Week Exercise Challenge was a great motivator/inspiration for me to keep at it. Mornings can be tough, that's for sure. However, for me, there's nothing better than getting into the shower at 7 after getting the workout in for the day. I need to be in the office by 8 so I have that extra hour that you don't. I wish I could get addicted to exercise too, but I will say that after 6 weeks of it, I actually do kind of look forward to it!

                          Nice. I typically have the TV on Mute and watch SportsCenter with one eye while watching the Ipod with the other eye. Speaking of food shows, I caught "Man v. Food" last night for the first time - pretty cool show. Guy travels around and eats restaurants' food challenges. Last night he ate 15 dozen oysters in 21 minutes... yikes.

                            Happy Happy Friday STAC'ers

                            I am sooooo happy it is Friday. I am playing hooky today. I had a very exhausting week (work wise) and I need a mental break. I slept great last night and would have slept till 7 or so but my daughter woke me at 6:15 to say "mom, I accidentally slept in can you take me to school if I am late?"...... She made the bus by 6:50. She needs to learn to get ready quick. I swear some days she spends an hour or more in the bathroom doing her hair and make up.

                            I made a pot of vegi soup last night for dinner so I need to make some cheese cake muffins or something to help me get my fat in. Maybe I will do that today. The sun is up and the sky is blue, it is hard to stay in when it is like this. I need to work in my yards and get the hose out to help things green up faster.

                            Kelly I am trying to convince myself to start morning work outs again as well. Some times I wait for my husband and then he comes home late and I am too tired. I feel best (with my back and knee) when I first get up. I have more free time in the morning too. Last time I went to the gym early I was surprised that it was so busy.

                              Slapshot, I LOVE Man versus Food. Nothing he eats really tempts me too much. I've seen him eat a 12 egg omelet, a 72 ounce steak, all kinds of crap. He's crazy! But it's a great show. Travel Channel has great food shows.
