  • My Last Day of Induction, 15 Lbs. Down. :)

I'm thankful to all of you in this community for your support.
I couldn't have done it without you.

I'm proud of myself because I had many obstacles to overcome as far as my general food addiction, carb and sweet addictions. The first week was veeery tough. I had to go through the motions of withdrawal and I compare it to someone withdrawing from drugs. It was THAT bad. But I overcame. I had to continue to cook forbidden foods for my family and I overcame. I had to go to the grocery store and walk down the isles to grocery shop for my family and was faced with all of my favorite old foods and many, many temptations. I overcame. And I didn't cheat!!

I noticed that by the second week, everything was much easier. I wasn't as hungry as I was used to being and I found it easier to avoid the temptations, even when faced with them. Even though in continued ketosis (always checked with my ketostix), my ketosis breath wasn't as bad. In fact, I no longer sense it. I believe my body has adjusted to living low carb.

A very important thing that helped me through and when in times of cravings that first week and still even at this moment - WATER!
I seem to always have a tall glass of ice water in my hand or on my desk.

I have registered on the scale the same weight for 3 days now, so I wonder if I should do Extended Induction or move on to the next phase. It is my hope to get some opinions here. I will also be posting before and after pics in the appropriate forum. Even though it's only 15 Lbs., I think I see a difference, especially in the face.

    Anyways, thanks again everyone!

Staying in induction won't guarantee additional weight loss -- I didn't loose any additional weight unti' I moved on to OWL Rung 1 and added 5 additional net carbs of veggies daily. You don't have that much weight to loose, if I were you I'd move on and go up the rungs slowly so you find which foods you'll be able to eat and which ones may bother you in the future.

As far as what you wrote, I've been following Atkins since last January -- every week I've gone to the store and shopped for my family and then for myself....I sit between them so I pass their food back and forth to them at each meal we eat together and it doesn't bother me a bit. Also, water is the best way to keep from caving!! Many times when you "think" you're hungry you are actually thirsty because of dehydration. Make sure you're drinking the minimum of pure water daily!

Also remember the keotsis sticks aren't the most reliable measure of being in keotsis -- many people never register any color on the sticks -- and the color doesn't matter because you are either IN keotsis or you aren't...no degrees of keotsis or one color being better than another. If you are loosing weight and/or inches chances are you are in keotsis.

      Good luck & congrats!

Thanks for your replies. I added before and after pics but someone just told me they didn't see any difference whatsoever. Bummer.

Three days with no weight loss mean nothing. There will likely be weeks -- and there might be even months -- when you'll lose no weight.

And don't forget to take body measurements.

It is my hope to get some opinions here.
Did you read Chapters 12 and 13 in DANDR 2002?

          only 15 Lbs
Only??? 15 lbs is 30% of the weight you needed to lose when you started! It clearly shows that you have a low degree of metabolic resistance, so it would be best to move to OWL, imo.

15lbs! awesome. The first time I did Atkins I lost 9 lbs. This time 7. I am so happy with any loss though. I am so determined to make 2010 the year I hit goal. It is almost as if I can see ME like way far off in the distance waving. I did it! I just have that feeling in my heart. You can do this. I started OWL today. I ate more veggies and hit 25 grams net carbs. I feel good and am not even thinking of weighing again until next Friday. My weight fluctuates daily. I am just concentrating on how I feel.
              God bless and congrats.
