  • food journal - feel free to comment if i get something wrong

    hi... not sure if this is the right place but i wanted to keep a food journal. how much i eat and drink and what.

    if i posted it in the wrong corner of the forum please feel free to move it

    First day: water water water

    2 scrambled eggs in melted butter.

    4 chickenlegs

    Am planning to eat tonight [before 6 pm]
    home made burgers with cheese plus 1 cup of mushrooms, one cup of celery and one cup of cucumber...

    hope that is ok....

    You would do better to spread your vegetables out during the day.

    There's no magic about eating before 6:00 p.m.

    And ... that's not very much food.

      the thing is i get really bad in the evening with food. During the day I am kind of ok and dont feel that hungry. I do eat when I am hungry but I am not a big fan of meat [i know not very good when doing atkins] so during the day i dont eat so much. Its when evening comes that I could eat everything!
      So I thought if i keep all the veg for the evening I will be able to withstand the binging.... or craving for carbs....

      i really badly want to eat sweet things in the evenings... i guess there is nothing sweet when in the induction phase? i did buy some cream today and wanted to mix it with my tea but then read i am not allowed black tea cos of the blood sugar...
      i have to admit i am getting a bit worried about the evenings... was looking forward to something sweet like tea with cream...
      I might start making my burgers now and eat some now? I dont really feel hungry yet ...or maybe I am hungry but the thought of eating all this fat stuff and meat and cheese etc is making me feel dizzy. Unfortunately i cant do any other diets. it seems that only low carb diet gets rid of my weight

        i fell asleep so only just had my dinner. burger topped with cheese and 2 cups of fried mushrooms and one cup of cucumber. And lots of water. Feel ok now, no gravings yet. But my nights are long i sometimes stay up until 3 am so my 'day' is not over yet.
        But dinner was nice. Have a little bit left so if i get hungry again will eat the rest of it

          This early into Inductions, I would keep "legal" food handy to fight off hunger and/or cravings. Make up some deviled eggs or something simple just in case. When I was first into it, I'd make a tray of chicken thighs (w/skin on) and keep it in the fridge. If I felt hungry or had a craving I'd go eat a couple. They also shredded up nicely to put on a salad. Some other ideas, celery sticks cut up into a can of tuna (or salmon or crab or whatever) mixed with mayo. Egg "nog" shakes are quick and easy to make.

            Having them all your vegetable carbs at once is more likely to cause an insulin spike ... and that can cause cravings.

            You're working against yourself with your eating choices.

              the celery sticks and tuna sounds yummy! Will take a look at the different recipes on the net. especially in the induction phase i always used to think eating can be quite...bland ... or...repetetive.

              Hmm insuline spike... not sure what that means so will have to google it. Well I dont stay up late on purpose... sometimes i cant sleep easily. when life sux lol

              well this morning i really would like a cup of tea ...i really use dto like having a cuppa with my ciggie... but had water instead...
              need to see what to eat this morning...

                Switch to an herbal tea and you'll be fine.

                  thats not the same as black tea tho!!!!

                  Well today I had: water water water

                  4 scrambled eggs cup of decaf tea with double cream

                  2 tins of mackrels cup of decaf tea with double cream

                  fried salmon, two cups mushrooms, 1 cup cucumber, cheese diet coke

                  thats it! sound ok? hope i didnt eat too much of the veg. I did convert cups to ml/g so hope its ok... i just filled a 200 ml/g can each time. i think a cup is slightly more than 200 ml/g.

                      Right about spacing out veggies. Insulin makes your body able to use the carbs you eat for energy. Having all your carbs at once may confuse your body into thinking you really need the energy now (causing insulin spike) and there will be more carbs to come (which causes the cravings) and can even knock you out of ketosis (bad on atkins diet). If your body is converting all those carbs into immediate energy at night, that may explain your inability to sleep especially if you feel amped up, restless, or jittery.

                        oh american cups is messured in weight rather then ml? I get sooo confused with this... so it should be 200 g rather than 200 ml?

                        I thought I ate the recommended carbs each day? it says 3 cups of the veg/salads i was reading... and some cream in my tea. i didnt get 20 gs of carbs today?

                          No.

                          A cup in "american" can refer to both volume and weight. It's very confusing.

                          You would do better, I think, to weigh your food rather than try to think in "cups".

                              If I use a measuring "cup" to measure water, that's "volume" ... and a "cup" will be 8 ounces.

                              If I use that same measuring cup to measure a "cup" of lettuce, it won't weigh anywhere near 8 ounces.

                              If you look at the USDA website, www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/
                              you can look up a "cup" of shredded or chopped lettuce and see how much it weighs.

                              (If memory serves, it's about 56 grams.)
