  • I'll call this a success

Even me, Mr. confident almost lost it today. Been on induction for 10 days. Havent come close to cheating. Did atkins before and it was difficult and kept all the weight off even after i went back to what is considered a "normal" way of eating. i just never went back to the real junk. anyway....today was a bad day, nearly fatal (fatal in atkins diet terms). im 5'11 225 down from 255 in march and i desperatly wanna lose 25-30 more pounds. been doing excellent on induction. im at that point where you talk to everyone about it, feel SOOOOOO good about yourself, and life is just all around awesome! i dont crave anything in the french fry-cheesesteak-mexican ballpark, but im DYING for some "BLEEPING" chocolate!!!!!!!!! so, i went to the supermarket 30 minutes ago and i really thought i was just gonna give in and just shake it off in the morning with some extra exercise. i was in the ailse that has everything that you'd ever want. oreo's, chips ahoy, etc.

well, im proud to say that on day ten- i didnt give in. i did get some macadamia nuts (4 carb grams per serving) and had a couple servins of that but considering what might have been, i considered this a victory tonight. that nuts sort of helped by taking the edge off, but it was a close call.

i need some advice on what i can have sweet. all i do is sugar free jello. you have to remember im a single guy, live alone, cant just make stuff cause a)im an idiot in the kitchen. all i know how to do is make eggs and put meat on the george foreman grill. otherwise ill literally burn down the apartment.

so, is there something i can buy that will satisfy this sweet tooth which is atkins friendly other than sugar free jello, or whip something up that doesnt require quantum physics in the kitchen!

    help!!!

i wanna be thin. i just wanna be "bleeping" thin! just like everyone else. i know i shouldnt be crying about being 225 and 5'11 but hey its me and i hate it.

p.s i ran/walked 3 miles today after work along with situps, crunches and pushups

Hey, I LOVE the SF chocolate puddings jello makes, check it out, and also there is SF candy just don't overdo it. They say you need to starve your sweet tooth though. Are you in dairy rung yet? they have sf ice cream too. and sf cookies but they have flour in them and you want to stay away from the enriched flour. Great job and good luck!

check this out Sparky http://genaw.com/lowcarb/swiss_miss_mousse.html or since you are still in Induction... maybe you can just do like Me when i have a Choco Crazy Moment... i just whip up a little Heavy Cream with some Hersheys Cocoa Powder (the kind for baking - unsweetened) and some Splenda or Stevia... its really yummy and you can make it as chocklity as you like it... just remember to add up the Carbs and Fat and Sweetener into your Daily count...

Re: I'll call this a success

I have the same problem with chocolate. I have a can of chocolate whip cream in my fridge and I do a shot of that when my sweet tooth takes control! Works for me. Good luck. I know how strong that urge can be.

By the way CONGRATULATIONS on not caving at the grocery store!!

Re: I'll call this a success

I, too, was having a sweet tooth attack yesterday...and I don't even like sweets. I'm not a big fan of ice cream, but I guess when you're told you can't have it, you want it...even if you don't like it. Breyer's makes this CarbSmart ice cream. Well, they only carry it in Butter Pecan. I don't like Butter Pecan but I had it in my cart! (Well, I can't say I don't like it...never had it...but it does not sound appealing to me).

When lo' and behold...I got to the end of the ice cream aisle and I found Breyer's CarbSmart ice cream bars. They are FREAKING DIVINE!! They have 5 net carbs and it fixed my sweet wagon in an instant.

            There's a great induction shake...

            1/3 c cream cheese
            1/3 c heavy cream
            1/2 egg beaters
2 TBL DaVinci sugar free syrup (I use raspberry)
            4 ice cubes
            2 pkts splenda
Whomp it all up in your blender...really good!

            Mock Danish

            1 egg beaten
2 oz cream cheese (soften in micro 10-15 secs)
            1 pkt splenda

mix together and microwave 2 mins
            The sweetness curbs my urge!

Re: I'll call this a success

What was it about this week and sweets????

I was doing so well.. I was craving sweets all weekend .. I really suffered but I was determined not to break. I even got in the car and drove down the mountain. I was standing in the little grocery store with my basket in my hand and I decided that I'd worked to had to mess it up now. So I got the dogs a treat and went back up the mountain.

Then my neighbors dog showed up. He's a cute little weenie dog... But it's not safe for him to be out at night... Mountain lions, coyotes and large owls would see him as an appetizer. So I call the neighbor and she drives down to get him.. And what does she bring me but homemade cinnamon rolls. OMG... I intended to just put them in the trash .. really I did.. but I was weak... So now I'm back on induction for a few days.. I've also got stomach cramps from the wheat and a headache from the sugar..

So good for you.. I'm proud that you were strong... next time I'll just dump them in the dirt and forget about them... IT'S GOOD TO HAVE A PLAN!

Re: I'll call this a success

FWIW- A lot of these suggestions are nice and I suppose they'll do the trick where a sweet tooth is concerned, but the vast majority of suggestions in here are *not* induction friendly at all- some of them aren't Atkins friendly at all. For a couple of the suggestions the ingredients are induction friendly but the amounts are not.

Not here to rain on anyone's parade- but I think making the distinctions is important. Some of these fall into the "lesser of two evils" category, but the lesser of two evils is still evil.

If it's not on the list, it shouldn't pass your lips.

In a pinch you can do things like cocoa and some heavy whipped cream and splenda (no more than 3oz of heavy cream per day - and no more than 3 servings of splenda a day), or cocoa and cream cheese (no more than 3-4oz of cheese a day, cream cheese to be included in that total). There are a bunch of pumpkin recipes around here that are monkey-proof.

And honestly- if you're going to make this a way of life and be successful at it in the long term, then you'd be much better served to take "can't cook" out of your vocabulary and start learning a little at a time. Depending on commercial sources and convenience foods won't take you very far at all, unfortunately!

We all battle the cravings, but induction and the first few rungs of OWL are there to help us learn to reign them in and help us learn to rule the cravings instead of allowing the cravings to rule us!

                I wish you success!

Re: I'll call this a success

I have been doing induction for 11 days now and have had nothing sweet, I remember reading somewhere that if you give your body sugar alcohols, even if they have no carbs, it will burn the alcohols first, and I want it burning fat all the way. Something I did use in the past to ease the cravings was whipping cream with a tiny bit of splenda in it, there's also a truffle recipe in the back of the atkins book which I tried, it makes quite a few and when used sparingly will last a long time (saving you from those emergency craving moments). Plus, cheesecake (without the graham crust) is suprisingly low carb (with splenda), but I'm not sure you can make it on the Foreman grill .
My approach this time around has been since I have such a weak spot for the sweets, I just stay away from sweet things entirely. They're a big offender in my weakness list, so I figure if I do Atkins right, and avoid all the danger zones, I have no cravings. I work in a donut shop, and haven't slipped once, so I guess it's working helpful hint, I learned from a pharmacist, when you are having a major craving, take chromium, it helps level off that blood sugar (diabetics use it), and after about 15-20 min, I'm totally fine. When I wasn't even doing atkins, and was just eating normally, that helped me lose almost ten lbs. Good luck!!
