Re: What are your spouses/partners/friends saying?

I have lost 7 lbs my first week of induction and my hard head uhem, I mean my husband who is oh so negative was like "That's only 7 pounds". When I explained to him that after 3 children that we made together whose ages ranging from 7 months to 8 years, it takes time to all come off, he just shrugged. I know, I am lucky as hec huh....

Re: What are your spouses/partners/friends saying?

Mrs Bee, we're so in the same boat! I think 7 lbs is awesome! Just imagine if you lose almost that same amount the second week (not that even another lb or two wouldn't be enough) but just imagine! Will he shrug then too? Will you? I bet you'll be jumping for joy! I am doing much better today. We went grocery shopping last night and he made us dinner (we alternate who makes dinner these days) and he made me a steak and green beans and everyone else sausages (which I deemed to have too much sugar in them for me to eat) in hot dog buns w/mac n cheese. I was so happy to have something good I could eat - maybe he is coming around after all???? He teased me but then stole some of my steak too. Lol.

Oh and I lost 1.5 over the last 3 day - that is awesome for me! That's like .5lb a day and with how little I have to lose (though I think I need to adjust my goal a bit lower) that is fast for me. I have struggled and struggled to lose on low calorie plans and could never get to goal it was so slow and I would give up. This has been enjoyable and I EAT now. I love it! I am sure DH (short for "dear husband" or "darn husband", which ever fits at the time) just has to get his opinion out there then tease me incessantly. I think teasing me is his full time job...lol. He finds it funny. I guess someone should! Lol.

Hang in there Mrs Bee, when he sees you in another size, and then another - you might just get a "hey, you look good" then you might get something afterwards to negate whatever he just said but try to ignore the other part (I know its hard) lol. My DH hit me with "you look really good for your age" recently. I told him, hey, I am 34, I am not OLD and AGE shouldn't even be a consideration yet! I tried to take it as a compliment but, you know he's like a kid, says whatever he's thinking. Dumb or not! Sounds like yours does too. He just doesn't get that women lose slower than men and believe it or not, a lb a day is freaking awesome for a woman to lose, maybe not for a man, but WOW. Great job!!!!!

Re: What are your spouses/partners/friends saying?

My husband has heard it all before. Like many others, I don't say much when I start a diet. He hasn't gained any weight in 24 years, but he works on a roof all the time. He's starting to let others do the "young mans work" so I know his pints of chunky monkey will catch up with him.

I think the 1st person that may notice will be my daughter who is stationed in North Carolina. I see her typically once a month, so she'll notice the (hopefully) dramatic change 1st. Other than that I work from home, alone, and the only people who see me are husband and teenage son. Neither of which will likely say anything, let alone notice.

When we met I was naturally thin. In our many discussions the one thing i always knew is he was not attracted to heavy women. While he has continued to "love" me I know that if we had never met, he wouldn't give me a second glance, let alone ask me out, etc. It's very hard KNOWING that you do not attract your mate. I cannot remember the last time he complimented me on anything from the way I dress, to my looks, etc.

        Hopefully, that will change.

Re: What are your spouses/partners/friends saying?

Mostly positive. I joined a gym a few weeks ago. A lot of people I work with go to the same gym after work. It's very motivating. Family and friends have been really great. I actually got a couple catcalls last week. Which was...nice?

My mom's boss totally checked me out last week. Then he goes, "You look like you've lost some weight...You look good." *blank stare* He's like fifty years older than me. It was kinda creepy. He actually tried to draw me into a conversation by asking me how much weight I've lost. *cringe*
I will set reachable goals. I will set myself up to succeed. I will weigh ONCE a week. I will reward good behavior with fun activities.
I will reach my goals one checkpoint at a time.

Re: What are your spouses/partners/friends saying?

I get comment from most people I know now. It's to the point where it's very obvious I've lost quite a bit. I haven't seen the inlaws since xmas. Can't wait to see what they think. Ok and maybe rub it a little since his sisters think this woe if crap and no way will it work for us. They are doing the hcg diet and the first month worked well for them. Lets see who keeps it off long term though. A hormone diet or a healthy life style change? After almost 16 years I know them well enough they are not going to adhere to a strict low calorie regime for life to keep that weight off. They are going to get hungry and go back to eating. I wish they would switch but they are grown women and can make their own choices.

I was picking the kids up from school the other day and one of the teachers I formerly did WW with said you are looking so good. I said thank you thinking she liked my new top LOL She said no I mean you look really good all over, I can't believe how much you've changed in the last few weeks. You look amazing.

That feels good to hear from someone you know will tell you like it is. I think Dh gets a little frustrated because you can't tell as well on him. He had around 100lbs to lose, now about 60lbs. So you can see a difference in his face and stomach but it will probably be another 20lbs before you start seeing dramatic changes. Even though he's losing weight faster, I'm losing inches faster since I have less to lose. He had to order a size down in his work shirts yesterday though so I think that was a huge bump to his ego. I give him lots of compliments but I know it's nice to hear it from impartial parties, then you know it's not sugar coated.

Re: What are your spouses/partners/friends saying?

while i've only lost 11 lbs on atkins, and 17 lbs since January 5th, no real comments have been made with the exception of my husband.
i feel really blessed, he's my biggest fan. he's stopped asking if we can order pizza lol.. and every time i put on my workout gear or climb into bed he pipes up that i'm looking "so awesome and tiny!". it's very encouraging and i feel super lucky that he is trying to help push me in the right direction.

my mother on the other hand is a total weirdo and very competitive with me. i saw her on the weekend and she was grumpy about my recent success (she gained back the weight she lost on some stupid cookie diet. lol) and it's too bad. i would hope that one would be happy for their kids.

Had a great compliment today - I went for my yearly "girl doctor" visit, and my doctor came in the room saying "Hey Skinny!" Even though I still have a long way to go, it was great to hear. She couldn't believe I'd lost 25 pounds just since January, and asked what I was doing. When I told her Atkins and exercising, she said to keep it up because it's obviously working for me, and she couldn't wait to see me next year when there will be even less of me! BTW, all my levels of heart rate, blood pressure, etc, were great too. Woo hoo!!!

Very, very cool post. I put a friend on the diet and help train her. She was my ex calculus I and II professor many moons ago. She is 71 years old. Prior to starting Atkins, she was on a fairly large array of medications to control her type II diabetes, blood pressure and statin medications to lower her cholesterol.
Within 2 months, after blood tests and the O.K. from her Dr. she is totally off her meds. I read her latest blood test results and it was remarkable in how her lipid proflie, serum proteins and HDL to LDL ratios changed in a positive way. The change towards the better was beyond significant. Thanks for sharing you medical results.

Now on to something my sister said.....I asked her to diet with me when I started induction on the 29th, she said she was excited and she thinks she will...a week later, she says that she didnt start the diet...and in her exact words..."My stomach hurts...I have bowel problems...and I just don't feel healthy enough to start dieting right now...". ?!?!?! Well....I immediatly thought that if she lost the weight she needs to, all these "health problems" will be GONE....duh. But I guess I will just have to sail right past her.....

When I first started this woe, my husband called this a "kooky diet"...and to his defense, thru all of our years of marriage, we have been on so many diets and failed...but now he will tell people that his wife lost 100 pounds all the time now..there is a co worker of his who is a diabetic..shoots insulin I believe he said 4 times a day, he is very into nutrition.... he told this co worker that I was on Atkins and the co worker said that this was the best diet to be on... I do have to add my husband is a borderline diabetic...but he still believes I eat no carbs...I can't get it thru his thick head...

I have had a few people say they didn't recognize me. I think that is silly because I look like me only smaller. Others ask how I am doing it so they can emulate it, they always say"I can't do that." My ex says I am looking really good(we are good friends still btw)

I really still see a fat girl when I look in the mirror. I don't think I will ever see a skinny one. I really hate my body, thin or fat.
