  • What are your spouses/partners/friends saying?

I am just curious about the reactions of the people around you when you lose a large amount of weight.

See, I know I have talked about my new "plan", and made a fool of myself over and over again by not sticking to it. I have 3 older sisters, a few best friends, and a husband who has heard it all before. I am just keeping this to myself, aside from my best friend... aka hubby. I know he wants to believe in me, but I think he is disenchanted with all my diet plans.

I honestly don't blame him a bit. I shove it down his throat for years after all with nothing but yo yo dieting. I can tell he is getting excited though (even though he doesn't try to show it). I think this diet is so unique to others. I showed him Kent's youtube vids. He was impressed.

So how is everyone reacting? Give me something to look forward to!

My Husband is Excited. He knows I can do it, and anytime I say something about going off it..(even tough I won't) he encourages me to stay on it.
But I did promise him some more "lovins" Once I am happy with myself.

My DH is such a sweetheart that he says I look thinner every day when he gets home from work.

My mom told me I look much better and she is super-critical.

My body image is extremely, extremely distorted but even I can see that my nose looks thinner.

Even though I've lost almost 20 lbs. (well, probably 20 and more by now; I'm not weighing in for awhile ), with almost 30 more to go ... no one has noticed! And, on my frame, 20 lbs. is a big difference, believe me. I don't have family members to bounce this off of ... it's just me and my husband, but I have to say he's been very encouraging and supportive. Which makes me appreciate him all the more!

Ummmmm this is what I get "That's great, but we will see how long it lasts and we'll see if you can keep it off" ....oh and "There is no way you can eat this way the rest of your life".... This "encouragement" makes me work even harder believe it or not!

Re: What are your spouses/partners/friends saying?

I haven't lost a lot but my body has changed a bit already. My husband has noticed. My friends have really been great and have told me how great I look. My co-workers haven't said much...

Here's a couple interesting tidbits, thougth:

              1. I've noticed that the people that see me every day haven't said much unlike people who haven't seen me in a few weeks. I think it's because the people who are with me each day can't see the difference like the others can...

              2. My family (my mother and my sisters) didn't comment on it at all until I asked them (and I don't get to see them all that often). NICE. My weight has ALWAYS been obvious when it comes to my family. My sisters are naturally skinny. My mother isn't but is ALWAYS on herself about her weight and, in turn, on ME for mine. She doesn't nag but always throws these diet tips and stuff at me. Drives me crazy. So here I am - found out I was insulin resistant and decided to do Atkins - I've lost 6 pounds and two sizes in clothes - and they couldn't say 'Hey, you look great!' I had to ASK them specifically about it. Kind of upset me a little that they can be 'supportive' of me when it's obvious I'm not losing weight, but now that I am they don't have much input. And I know you can notice because others definitely are!

Yuck. Thats icky of them. The only thing I can say is ... look on the bright side, atleast they aren't saying negative things about your diet, right? ( I hope!) I have 3 older sisters. I am definetly the fattest. lol None of them have ever been as heavy as I am, by far. The thing that sucks... I am not, and have never been in competition with them (like they do with each other). Why is that bad? I'm glad you asked.

I am in such a fat sister category that they can openly say things like, " You are such a pretty girl; you are too young to be so heavy", "We worry about your health". Translation.... we are overweight ... but you are so fat we feel bad for you.

I have definetely let it get way too far out of control. I am just over it. I used to wonder if a guy was looking at me because he is checking me out.. now I wonder if he is looking at me because he thinks I am grossly and unattractively fat. It so sucks.

I went into the office and was told by several "Look at you!" It felt good since they havent seen me in a few months.

My husband has been very encouraging and complimenting on a daily basis, it does help when your spouse is supportive!

Re: What are your spouses/partners/friends saying?

At first it was, "Yeah. I've heard you say that before. ." Then it was "Well, I can see a bit of a difference.", followed by a "We'll see how long this lasts!"

Lots of times no one said anything at all and I'd get and .

Soon it was, " Wow. You look great!" and "How are you doing it?" along with, "You can't eat like that forever. "

Pretty soon some of the friends didn't or visit so much. and I was really hurt.

And the hubby was always along the way.

Not long after that it was, " Holy cow!! Where did the rest of you go?!" and "You HAVE to tell me your secret!". The snarky ones started with the, "You don't need to lose any more. You look like ****. ."

Here I am, with 6 1/2 years of Atkins under my *much* smaller belt and they no longer say, "You can't eat like that forever." or "Wonder how long *that's* gonna last."

The best part? I don't give a what any of them say. The ones that count love me no matter what size my is and respect the time, dedication and effort that went into getting healthier than *all* of them. So there!!

Congrats, I think it is fantastic. and you are my inspiration. I pray I acan do as well. My hubby says I look good and friends have noticed the weight loss and have asked what I am doing. Some I tell I am doing Atkins others I tell I cut out bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, and high sugar foods. No matter wqhat I get positive comments at this stage and like you some say I don;t need to lose any more but I feel I need to try for an additional 21 lbs to be at goal. I know I should probably moce to OWL but as long as hubby is making a half hearted attempt to lose weight I will stay here for a while longer.
