  • Anyone want to join me?

I am starting (re-starting!) Day 1 Sunday, May 22 and wanted to see if anyone else was starting Day 1 of induction today as well. I think it would be to keep each other accountable and to have the support during this phase. I know I would love the support and advice from all of you!!

Hello Malikah :wave Welcome to ha and this Way of Eating (WOE)

You have come to the right place for encouragement :joy , support :hug and advice ensive .

One great thing about this board is how even the first-day Inductioneers are pleased to rally round and help each other.

It is a pleasure to me to see how close bonds seem to be built between groups of Atkineers on the same stage of Atkins, as well as how the more experienced members are happy to 'pay it forward' when they can.

If you haven't already, take some time to read the stickies at the beginning of each forum. You will find lots of good advice there.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Hello, Malikah! Today is my second day on Induction. Yesterday went well and I lost 2 pounds already. I'm absolutely new to Atkin's diet and a little confused about counting Net Carbs. I have followed low-fat diet more than six months and I didn't drop pounds as soon as I wanted. So I decided to try Atkin's diet, which seems completely otherwise.

Do you count calories or just only Net Carbs?

I found this forum very helpful! I hope we'll support one another and lose some weight for good.

P.S. Sorry for my grammar mistakes cause English isn't my native language.

          Hello Malikah and Jurgita!
Today is also my first "official" day on Atkins. I started preparing last week, but today is my start day. I am really nervous about giving up carbs, but know that I can and will do this. I think supporting each other would be great. I look forward to this :joy I am sure this time we will do it! I hope you join us Jurgita and anyone else that is interested. May 22 is the day~ we will committ to ourselves that we will hold each other accountable and do the best we can on this WOE. :hug Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

            Hi Jurgita!

Great to have you a part of this group! :wave Congrats on your 2 lb loss in 2 days! That is awesome!!! Keep it up! :joy It may seems overwhelming at first with all "rules" of induction but there is SO much information here that it will be second-nature to you in no time! From my understanding about "Net Carbs" is the following: Total Carbohydrates - Fiber= Net Carbs. Also, sugar alcohols found in candy, gum, etc. DOES count towards your 20grams so be sure to include it if you do eat them.

What are your goals? How much weight do you have to lose? How tall, etc.?

Let me know how today goes.

Jurgita! I forgot to tell you in the last message that do not worry too much about calories and/or fat during induction and focus more on total carbs. Once you get past this phase, then you can focus on calories a little bit more but some people still do well eating a lot of the great food on the WOE!

Hi Corinna! :wave Nice to have you a part of this group! I can already tell that you are going to do VERY well on this WOE due to your planning ahead. Giving up carbs will be a challenge for me as well, but as they say "anything worthwhile takes hard work." In our situation, eating delicious "non-traditional diet foods (high-fat)" is the best part of this WOE. WE ARE GOING TO REACH OUR IDEAL WEIGHT TOGETHER!! :dancing

What are your stats? How much weight do you want to lose, etc.?

Let me know how today goes. Good Luck!

My stats: 5'2", GW: 107lbs. My CW (current weight) is around 128lbs +/-.

Many thanks for your pieces of advice. Elizellen, you look fantastic! Have you ever tried other diets before Atkins?

The second day is almost over and this is my tommorow's menu. Maybe it'll be useful for you too.

                  BREAKFAST:

Egg flotentine with cheese sauce (Net Carb2.8g)
                  Cheese sauce:
35 ml double cream (Net Carb 0.8g)
                  20 ml water
60g cheddar cheese, diced (Net Carb 1g)
Salt, Dijon mustard, paprika (Net Carb 0.2g)

Combine all ingredients in the top of a double boiler. Simmer slowly over hot water until smooth.

                  Eggs florentine:
80g fresh spinach (Net Carb 0.2g)
                  1 egg (Net Carb 0.6g)
                  Salt

Preheat the oven to 180C, gas mark 4. Prepare the cheese sauce. The spinach leaves place in a saucepan and cook over a low heat for 2 minutes. Drain well and chop finely.
Place the spinach in a baking dish then make a hollow for an egg in the spinach. Break the egg into the hollow and add a pinch of salt to taste. Pour the cheese sauce over the egg and spinach and bake for 25 minutes.

                  LUNCH:

Chicken and Egg Salad (Net Carb 4.6g)
1 tbs olive oil (Net Carb 0g)
125g chicken breast (Net Carb 0g)
                  Salt
                  1 tbs Hellman’s mayonnaise (Net Carb 0.1g)
1 ts chopped onion (Net Carb 2g)
1 boiled egg (Net Carb 0.6g)
1 small handful of iceberg lettuce (Net Carb 0.2g)
1 stick of raw celery (Net Carb 0.8g)
                  ¼ avocado (Net Carb 0.9g)

                  DINNER:

Smoked salmon salad (Net Carb 2.4g)
100g smoked salmon (Net Carb 0g)
2 slices cucumber (Net Carb 1g)
1 tbs lemon juice (Net Carb 1.2g)

                  1 tbs Hellman’s mayonnaise (Net Carb 0.1g)

Is it enough 11.8g Net Carbs or should I eat more? Could you, please, share Tofu recipes with me?

                    Thank you (blushes)
From time to time since I have been grown up I have 'dieted' with little success.

I tried the 'F plan' diet for several years without much success but mainly I used to 'count calories' and gave up many times from being too hungry :sadblinky

Also the grapefruit diet and then basically only eating a boiled egg for breakfast then nothing till the evening when I ate fruit.

Never had much success till a customer told me about the Atkins way of eating in October 2003. The rest is history :joy

Hopefully by following the 4 stages of Atkins I won't ever have to 'diet' again :yes

                      Hi again!
I have a bit more to lose than you do, but I know that doesnt mean it will be any easier for you. :nono I am 5'3 and am starting at 157. My goal is 125. So far so good today. For breakfast I had an egg with some cheese and salsa. For lunch I had some sauteed portobella mushrooms with egg salad. For dinner I am having hot n spicy chicken wings with a tossed salad and blue cheese dressing. I have also had 2 oz of cheese to snack on. I got some great recipes for Revolution rolls and mock danish. I am going to make the rolls tomorrow and see how those are. Atkins rocks!

Well done, Corinna! :joy Keep going, girl! Do you do some exercises?

I believe we all will have our dream figures by July. Certainly it is going to happen if only we stay away from temptation to eat not recommended food. This morning I was craving for an apple, but I was a good girl and didn't eat it :joy . All my life I had a piece of fruit every day and now is really difficult without it. But I'll suvive!

I'm wondering is it ok to have 1 teaspoon of flaxseed because of fibre? :confused

I still have to make my tommorow's menu. Unfortunately I don't have "Atkins revolution" book, so I have to look on the internet for the recipes.

Elizellen, I'm so happy for you that you don't have to starve yourself anymore. An egg and fruit for all day - oh my God! Thanks to Atkins we can feel full all day long. These two last Induction days I didn't want to eat dinner. Do you exercise?

Yes - Dr Atkins says you can add 1 Tablespoon of either bran, psyllium husks or ground flax (linseeds) a day to help with constipation or its opposite and increase that till it works.

Don't forget to visit the recipe forums at the bottom of the main page for ideas. Also the recipe forum at the top of the page has loads of good ones.

Just remember to check the ingredients against the acceptable foods list.
If you havent got the DANDR for reference here is a sticky from the FAQ forum http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ic.php?t=68132

My main exercise is walking and cycling both at home on an exercise bike and outside on my brand new Pashley bicycle looking like Dorothy's schoolteacher!

Hi Everyone! Day 2 and I am feeling fine. I woke up at 5AM this morning and ran 5mi (51min) and I felt great all day. I just got home from work and feel a little tired but had a great day overall. How are you guys doing? Exercising? I haven't weighed myself yet but I plan on doing that on Day 7 and then again on Day 14. I am more concerned with bodyfat loss, not just "pounds!"

Do you work? If so, where do you usually eat if you eat out? Types of foods ordered? Just curious...

Talk to you all soon! :wave
