  • Does others eating 'bad' foods tempt you?

I went off and on Atkins many times and of those times many of them were when she was eating something yummy like a candy bar.. other times it was the snack machine calling my name from down the hall at work.

For me at least it seems that once something 'clicks' in my brain and I am ready to do it then nothing bothers me at all and she can eat anything right next to me and I am not the least bit tempted.

My wife god bless her is a vegitarian and eats candy bars and ice cream like they are going to go out of style and sometimes throws a salad or veggie burger in the middle

My wife is VERY helpful with my diet and helps me make new things and find recipes for me but I was just wondering if anyone else has the same thing in thier head that 'clicks'

I started Atkins probably 40 times and either failed by the end of the night or did it one day and off the next that is until it 'clicked' in my head and then I never looked back.

Granted I am only on day 15 now but in 03' I lost 70lbs on Atkins and did this on and off since this final time I started again two weeks ago.

Yes, It's clicking for me too!

The first time I did Atkins, I think I was too concerned with finding replacement foods - like frankenfoods, or trying to find veggies that tasted like potatoes, etc. In retrospect, this is what killed me. I don't really even like potatoes all that much, but I think I was trying to prove that I wasn't being deprived.

Now it's different. I don't want to eat processed foods at all, and this started before Atkins just because of health reasons. I think this country has gotten way out of control with how much packaged and fast food that we eat. Doing Atkins just seems natural to me now, so it's a lot easier to stick with.

My husband will eat rice with his dinners, or have a bowl of ice cream, and it doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I've even prepared his dinners for him with not a trace of temptation. I think it's all because I know that I choose not to eat it, not because I can't eat it.

Once you can say that and mean it things get lots easier :joy
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

        Zolgor,

If its any consolation in time (maybe a couple of months) you will be able to sit and watch people eating junk food and not want any of it at all.

You will soon lose all the cravings you get.

I was in a work meeting this morning and we were given a plate of buttered sweet buns to share, I obviously didnt have one, but it was interesting watching everyone else dive in.

Stay strong, together we will crack it.

          You're not alone.

When I began Induction, I couldn't even walk past potatoes in the grocery store, much less be around people eating them. But as time went by, it got easier and easier to ignore them (and the people who ate them).

I'm at the stage in Atkins where I can have some potato. And you know what? The first time I ate potatoes, I was like "Okay. Whatever." They weren't as important to me and my diet as I thought they were.

Be strong and the day these foods stop calling your name, you'll be back here telling us the good news!

This is a fun topic. I find it interesting now to watch people eat things, especially sweets. Like in meetings when there's cookies and stuff. I just look at the people thinking, "how can they choose to eat that!?" They have to be insane! Its like a concept from outer space that they would actually choose to eat a cookie. Its like they are eating bugs or something. Its very bizarre how my mind works now.

Personally, I do ok if I am only exposed to a few times of “having” to watch others eat sweets. Like today we had a big staff meeting with bagels, muffins, fruit and juice. Not one low carb thing in the bunch. It kindof pissed me off. But I was able to handle it. I had a small packet of cream cheese and coffee. BUT if I had to deal with that every day I would crack. For example we had over a week when people were bringing in food like crazy. I finally buckled and went hog wild. I had egg rolls and cookies and donuts, you name it I ate it. By the time I got home it all kicked in and I spent the rest of the night throwing up and holding me stomach. I felt AWFUL!!!!!! But it’s helped, I think back to that horrible night and know that that stuff isn’t for me.
It is hard, but the less I put myself in those situations, the less tempted I am and the better I do.

                  Not in the least ...

I just think about how far I've come, what I have yet to do, and ultimately, how much better I feel about myself and my health now; that is what keeps me from giving into temptation - or even skipping a workout.

I am really lucky with this program as my big weakness "snack foods" were always cheese and fatty meats.. I would wrap up a pound of cheese slices in mortadella and just eat it when I got home for TV.. It is kinda weird I dont eat sweets, but I drank a lot of soda and ate a lot of white bread that I would make sandwiches with...

You can imagine how my eyes kinda lit up when I read the permissable foods I guess to most people it would be like seeing "chocolate cake as much as you want"..

I am only on day 3 today of my induction and I find it a lot harder to overeat the way I used to be able to with carbs in the mix (eating the same type foods) It has been only a tiny lifestyle change for me to give up soda and bread and potatoes all the other stuff was never an issue for me anyhow..

I am not going to weigh myself at all until I am done with the 2 weeks but I already feel a lot better, have more energy and dont have any of the headache, etc etc that I read some people here get with induction I feel great actually. I guess tho my diet was 80 percent what I am eating now tho anyhow so I cant pat myself on the back really as I am not giving up much I can really feel for the people that are and I wish you the best.

                      Some people pick it.

I'm not quite as mad as our loveable cleo, but I am the same with the smelling thing. If I pick up a piece of chocolate and smell it, it gives me as much pleasure as it used to by just eating it.

I am no longer tempted to eat it at all.

Man I have to keep the bad foods out of sight or out of house for me to me in control at this point!!

I love spaghetti and I really love Pizza so may be a long time before I even consider those again.

Not ready to face that again!! :no

As long as I keep myself well fed, I'm fine. I won't cheat..there's no point to it..there would be absolutely no benefit in it, but if I'm hungry, and others are eating crap, then it makes me resentful and cranky :anger

Our scooter club always goes to a coffee shop or a donut place at some point in our weekly rides and I find that if I can smell their sweet treats (like Cleo!) I'm just fine! I tell myself that I have lots of good food at home to eat if I'm hungry after the ride.

I did have a big meltdown about 3 months into Atkins when I made a non-legal cheesecake for bf's family and sat there while they all ate it and I had nothing. BIG mistake for me. I was almost livid on the drive home and once I thought about it, it was because they all got treats and I didn't. (Such a baby I am!! lol) So now if we're going to friend's for dinner, I make something for myself and enjoy it while they enjoy their desserts.
It makes me feel like part of the group, which I think is a big reason why it can be hard to watch others eating when we aren't/can't.

I'm with Morrisey 100% all the way with the cheese/meat thing - that's exactly what I used to do. But bread was the biggest nightmare, I don't know why because I hate white bread. But give me a french stick, toast, crispy roll, then I was up and running. I really feel for anyone who has the sugar/sweet muchies though. With me that was a sort of hormonal thing, I remember once at TOM hunting through the house for any boiled sweets, anything sweet , like a crazed animal. I've had a hysterectomy since then so those days are gone thank God.
Saying that, I've been so "not" hungry after starting the Atkins that I was out the other day when a friend of mine gave me a polo mint. I took it totally without thinking then the next minute passers by are subjected to a crazed woman leaping up and down and spitting in the gutter. Must have been a charming sight.
