  • Imperial Cheese

    Hi all,

I'm wondering if Imperial Cheese (marketed as McLaren's by Kraft in Canada - in a small red plastic tub) is ok on Induction. It says it's an aged cheddar and has the following nutritional info:

    Serving size: 30g
    Calories: 115
    Fat: 9.6g
    Protein: 6.2g
    Carbs: 0.6g
    Fiber: 0.1g
    Sodium: 496mg
    Potassium: 20mg

I use this to make stuffed mushrooms (one full tub with 4 or 5 green onions minced, 6 slices of bacon crumbled, and a dash of Worchestershire sauce - the recipe calls for crumbled crackers but they make no difference in the final taste so I omit, of course! Bake at 350 for 15 minutes if anyone is interested). These freeze and re-heat very well, about 50 to 60 seconds in the microwave. They work great as a high fat snack and the cheese is so tangy that one or two will curb any cravings. I even lick the plate when I'm done!

The nutritional info looks fine to me. A 30 gram serving of cheese with carbs that low definetely is okay on Induction. The regular cheddar I buy and have to cut is the same for a 30 gram serving.

BTW how big is the tub itself. A 30 gram serving is pretty small and I use a little digital kitchen scale to weigh my cheese on.

The tub is 250g and can make about 30 stuffed mushrooms, so each one has about 8.33 grams of cheese. If my math is right, I could have between 72 and 96 grams per day (approx 24 grams per ounce) so between 9 and 12 mushrooms. That's a lot of stuffed mushrooms! I would not recommend that many!

Molly, make sure you are following Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, version 2002 (DANDR for short).

In the chapter on Induction, on the Acceptable Foods list it says we can have 3 to 4 ounces of cheese a day. Cheese can stall some people, so 4 ounces every day might be a bit much.

Please don't do this diet following what you heard.
Get the book, read it through and through and learn all you can so you get the best results possible. :yes
