  • Day One:

Well here I am!! Trying to lose 10-15 pounds in a month!! I'm on a time crunch, but honestly I would be happy with 5 lbs!! I have this terrible looking spare tire around my belly and my thighs are looking so chunky. I've been doing fit day for about a month now, and looking back at it, I've noticed that I am eating way too many carbs(up to 68% a day )

So I'm going to try this lifestyle approach and see how well I can tolerate it.
I am a nursing student graduating in October, so if I am compliant with this program then I should look good for graduation.

    wish me luck!!!

Oh...I have a question. I've noticed drinks like orange juice and milk have lots of carbo's in them, should I not be drinking them, or just in moderation?

    Re: Day One:

    Welcome aboard!

No orange juice, fruit juice, or milk on this program for a long time. Stick to water. Plain water. Get at least 64 oz in a day, or more if you can.

If you haven't gotten a copy of the Atkins book, do so immediately. It will be enormously helpful.

There's a sticky on this forum that lists the acceptable foods on induction - read it!!!!!! It is a lifesaver, and if you stick to the list, you'll do fine. Remember, you want to eat 20 grams of carbs or less every day for the first 2 weeks. And eat 2-3 cups of the appropriate veggies. And keep your fitday percentages at about 65% fat, 30% protein, 5% carbs.

Weigh yourself now, and again in 2 weeks if you want to. More importantly, MEASURE yourself now, and again in 2 weeks. The inches melt off faster than the pounds sometimes! If you need a guide, go to www.mybodycomp.com, set up a free account, and it will tell you what to measure, record the numbers, and let you compare info after 2 weeks!

Once you educate yourself and get the hang of it, you'll find that this is a very easy way of eating!

    Measuring every 2 weeks
As of 10/31/05, losta total of 56.75 inches!

Minimum 45 min cardio per day

      Re: Day One:

You can add milk and juice back in moderation once you reach the appropriate rungs of OWL. On induction, they are both no no's! Only stick to the foods on the list. Water is your friend during induction!

Good luck in your weightloss! If you haven't already, pick up a copy of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution. There is so much information in it. I strongly believe you can't do the diet right without all of the information in the book (even though these sites can be great!).

            Re: Day One:

Just be aware that the average weight loss on this WOE during the first 14 days (provided those 14 days are done in accordance with the book) is 5-10% of the weight you need to lose. So for a person with 100 pounds to lose, he can expect to lose 5 to 10 pounds. A person with 10 pounds to lose can expect to lose 1/2 to 1 pound.

            Editing to add,

You might want to do yourself a favor and read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, 2002 edition, so that you will do this diet properly....there's more to Atkins than counting carbs.

              Re: Day One:

Thank you for that information. I doubt I will meet my goal weight by next month, but I will be satisfied to watch the inches disappear and the weight drop within time.

                  Re: Day One:

im confused! how do you know how much you need to lose? You know how you said that you'll lose the percentage of weight that you need to lose during induction. welllllll for e.g i weigh around 145ish - 150ish. I want to get down to about 125. I would be happy. BUT I know some people like the really skinny look and would want to get down to about 110 or 105 even. Does anyone get what I am trying to say?????

                    Re: Day One:

Yes - I really have no idea what my goal weight should be myself.
I picked my goal as being half my highest weight and am hoping when I reach it (notice I say WHEN not IF) that I will be able to see if I need to change my goal to a lower one.
I imagine if I still have lumps and bumps where I dont want them that I will be able to tell if I have reached my ultimate goal or not.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
