  • What were your results....

Unfortunately there are some of us out there that haven't gotten this WOE down pack yet, or we just can't stay away from our old eating habits. Well I'm one of those people and I have made up in my mind this time around to stick to plan and move through each phase as Dr. Atkins instructed me to do... I know this WOE is for me and I have accepted that fact and I look forward to living a healthier and slimmer life. What about you, is this your ??? time starting over, or did you get the hang of it right away??? All input is welcomed!

I got the hang of it right away...I don't even allow myself to think that I can cheat, it works for me! I had really bad induction flu that lasted almost two weeks (yes, I was a real carb addict) I never want to feel that sick again, so whenever I think about cheating, I think about how sick I was during induction and it stops me in my tracks! Good luck, when you feel like cheating, come to this board and post instead!

Thanks america57.. I'm so ready to be slimmer and healthier that cheating is so far from my brain right now, and when it does come up; I'll think about all the times that I was bloated and looked HUGE and remind myself that I don't want to go back to that!

        Hmmm....tricky question!

I think I got the hang of it right away. I went for quite a while completely cheat-free, but then there are times when I do cheat...planned...although I didn't cheat too often and got right back on plan when I was in extended induction or OWL. Now I feel like crud whenever I go off plan for any period of time (1 meal, 1 day, whatever). So I know this WOE/WOL is for me!! I lvoe the way I feel and the control it gives me over my weight.

This is the best thing I've done for myself in quite a while!! Stick with it and it definitely becomes habit, just like the bad habits were formed!

The first time around, I lost about 9 lbs and maybe 10 inches during the first two weeks.

This time, I did not weigh, so I have no clue how many pounds I lost, but I lost 16 inches in the first two weeks.

Come on over to the Second Time ARound forum if you want to read posts of others who are doing htis again!

Something about Atkins just clicked for me. Once I got that list of Foods and Rules, it just seemed so straightforwar to me: if it wasn't on the list, I didn't eat it.

That's not to say that I had a glorious first year though! I had a really long mourning period because I had to give up my 'treats' and there was a lot of energy spent dealing with the fact that I was an emotional eater, after having denied it for so long.

                Re: What were your results....

The first time around was a breeze for me. Don't know what it was - but it was easy. I dropped fifty-some pounds in 6 months. This time has been a litte more difficult for me, but I'm sticking with it. If I fall or leap off the wagon, I dust myself off and climb right back on. Its been a slower process than the first time, but thats okay for me. I just want to lose the weight, feel healthy and make better choices (food and exercise).

Wishing you the best on your journey!!!

                          Re: What were your results....

For me the first time around was very easy . . . almost too easy. I had a lot of motivation as I lost almost 15 pounds in the first two weeks of induction. Over the next couple of months I continued to lose weight quickly, and had lost a total of 45 pounds in two months - I was halfway there. Then it happened....

My mom passed away and changed my world. I just didn't really care about much for a while, and of course I gained half the weight back. When the initial pain subsided, I started thinking of how healthy she was, and how she really took care of herself for most of her life . . . and look what happened to her --- she died at age 54 of Early Onset Alzheimers. Something that I do not want for me. In reading about preventing Alzheimers ( Early Onset is genetic with environmental factors ) I learned that I really needed to focus on changing my lifestyle. I did not want to follow in my mother's shoes.

I am back on Atkins, have been struggling quite a bit this time around, but so far, no cheats . . . and I am doing pretty well. Whenever I think of cheating, I think of my mother . . . and the emotion it fills me with is enough to see that one bite of that Snickers bar isn't worth my life.

I truely believe something significant happens in someones life that makes them genuinely "ready" to succeed on the Atkins nutritional approach. When that moment of clarity finially shines through - the motivation from that rockets you forward. When the initial motivation starts to waver, just think about the "moment" you had that clarity, what it was about . . . and most times that is enough to keep you going.

I think it is important to take it one second, one hour and one day at a time. I have had days where I thought, if I can get through this hour, I will be okay. . . and I always have.

                          Good luck to you !

Well I fell off last night. I had an ice cream cone that contained 30 grams of carbs but today I picked myself up and I'm continuing on. So far I've lost 12 inches and 9 pounds, down to 211.
