Um, whats wrong with the atkins shakes and bars? They are ok in induction. At least thats what the official website says. Oh, question about walnuts. I read the package and it says 3 carbs, 3 fiber which would equal 0 net carbs. But, I look at the carb counter and it says .9 carbs per (I forget). What do I believe?

But seriously, you can read this faq http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=6730 about the bars. And Although I'm unsure about the walnuts, they are certainly also a no-no on induction..

Says it is good for all phases. I didnt see where it says not to have shakes in the list but it didnt say to have them either. But the nuts have to go apparently. So that answers that question. Does this mean, since I have had nuts, do I start over?

                        Re: Snack Tips

Shakes and bars are a commercial gimmick - Dr. Atkins never advised using them in his book. Clean eating - basic foods - meat and vegetables. These were just developed when the corporation was formed and they tried to jump on the fast food bandwagon like when all the "fat free" products came out. After they developed their products, then they were added to the list of acceptable foods.

                        Steer clear.

This is directly from the atkins website. No endulge products are allowed on induction but the morning start bars and atkins shakes are allowed.

                            Re: Snack Tips

                            Hi! Welcome Aboard!

I wanted to let you know that a couple years ago I started Induction while my husband and I were travelling. I used the bars and the shakes and only lost about 2-3 pounds on Induction (results were disappointing). I thought I was doing the program right as long as I stayed under 20 grams of carbs.

However, last September I did a "clean" Induction in Boot Camp here on the forum and found out that I was wrong in several areas. Basically, stick by the foods in the book (posted here in the forum as acceptable foods -- you can print it out). Watch your ingredients also and if it says flour (of any kind), then stay away from it. If it says sugar, then you'd do better to leave it alone. Anyway, doing the "clean" Induction helped me to lose 12 pounds during those two weeks. (I exercised just about every day those two weeks also.)

I just finished two weeks on Induction again (I got off the program in October) and didn't exercise this time due to an old ankle injury that was flaring up. But, I did lose nine pounds and eight inches anyway.

I just wanted to let you know my experience with Induction and those shakes/bars.

                            Good luck!

                              Re: Snack Tips

ADBB doesn't recommend the bars, shakes, etc. during Induction for the very reason Kat gave---they have a tendency to stall or slow weight loss in some folks. Since the first two weeks of Induction is very important, we don't recommend anything that has that weight loss stopping/slowing potential.

We aren't the only ones who've noticed that stopping/stalling effect because Atkins Nutritionals Inc even has a warning about those products, limits their use during Induction to no more than 2 servings daily and suggests if weight loss slows or stops to stop using those products.

That's why we don't recommend those products during Induction: we know they mess up weight loss and the company knows they mess up weight loss.

If you want to experiment with them, by all means do, but don't say you weren't warned. And since I'm not getting enough hate e-mails lately, I'll add this....if you absolutely positively "cannot live" without eating candy bars, which those things are, then you really need to examine why you cannot live without and why you are on a weight loss diet.
