    Hi guys

Yes im on day 9. And no major whooshies at all. I think im just eating to much.
Went away for the weekend and had two glasses of wine ( thats all) and treate myself to some extra whipped cream for my pudding but other than that manage to be as good as gold. Even walked aboout 2 hours worth on the golf course yesterday.

I was so depressed last night about the failure of results so far that i prob overmunched on cheese. Not excessive but at least 4 slices.

    Mis,

But starting good as gold today .
Break 1 egg omelette with Butter Coffee and cream
Lunch 1/2 gammon steak with handful lettuce
Dinner will be one turkey breast with mayo celery and lettuce coffee and Cream

Does this sound ok, have decided not to buy any cheese this week as it is just too much of a temptation.

Ready to give up chaps need some encourgaement here to stick with this.

That's not enough veggies for the day...veggies are very very important, make sure you are getting them all in, you should be having 'other' veggies as well as salad...Also what is your fat intake? you can track in on www.fitday.com as well as your calories which may seem low in this menu you posted.

What kind of pudding are you eating... is it homemade with induction friendly ingredients? i know that instant puddings, even sugar free, contain starches to thicken them and you shouldn't have them on iduction

It's a good idea to cut back on cheese however, it can cause alot of problems if you don't watch the portion control.

Pudding has been just that a couple tablespoons of whipped cream This weekend i did eat a lot more veggies as my boyfriend took me away.

At home though my fat intake is really high 75-80% according to fitdayand this is why im confused the book says not too worry about calories. The more fat the better, as long as it is not carbs. But now the website says to watch calories and still eat fat. How ?

I never ate fat before, now im munching on butter and pork scratchingsa. How on earth is that going to help me lose weight? ( really mean munchin away on these, i have a fetish for butter, just plain,)

Should i be cutting back on thefat at all

And yes your right, cheese is now banished from the house.

Ill add one more cup veg tonight to my dinner.

But still ready to give up

Hey don't give up !!! Giving up won't give you the results you want either. I didn't loose much at all my first two weeks...I got real depressed too. So now I stay away from the scale. I just go by how my clothes are fitting. How are yours fitting? You will see more positive results by just doing your measurements and using your clothes as a guide. You need to make sure you are getting your water in too. The others can help you decipher your diet and see if your diet is okay. I am still new here myself and on an extended induction so I am not the authority on the diet. You can do this.....just stay at it. We all get frustrated and depressed. We just rely on the others to pick us back up and put us back on track when we get that way. Stay with us.....you are stronger than what you think. Here is a .

          Nope, that's not good enough.

Try 2 or 3 eggs in the omelette. Try a mid-morning snack such as cucumber with ranch dressing. Try using spinach instead of lettuce at lunch. Try a mid-afternoon snack. And how about a lovely greek salad at dinner?

          You aren't eating ENOUGH.

And if you're drinking wine, you're not following induction.

You can't expect BIG results if you don't follow the BIG rules!

Mama, i admitted i slipped up.

My boyfriend proposed on the weekend and i endulged in two glasses. I still persisted in refusing the strawberries and champers he offered and when he took me out for a celebratory dinner i made sure to select atkins freiendly. I did have an irish coffee, sugar free for pudding ( i dont want my diet to ruin the occassion for him)

I will get be as good as gold , i know i can but i was last week and nothing.

70-80% fat is too high. You should try to stick to 65% fat/35% protein/5% carbs as a guideline.

Your diet must be varied. Yes you do need to keep the fat up, but just eating butter and cream is not a good way to do this. You don't need to watch calories if you are eating a well balanced diet. if you stick to those guidelines, and only eat untill you are full, you caloric intake will be fine. Get your fats from various sources, meats, mayo, a bit of butter, extra virgin olive oil, dressings, etc.

You should also maybe cut out the pudding and whipped cream as you should be trying to avoid sweets for the first two weeks.

try cutting back on cheese, cream and see how that helps?

Try staying away from caffeine as well two in induction, it can stall some people.

                    Re: Dissapointed in weightloss

your reactions are typical for a new to Atkins person. you need to understand a few things so you don't panic at that metal monsters validation of your efforts.

First forget what you have learned about your needed cal count. it takes more cals to turn Atkins eatting cals to energy from mouth to final product then it does on the USDAQ high carb eating so naturally you will be losing fat mass eating higher cals then before.

Dr Atkins also knows this is a life long change so he telly cals don't count for the beginning becaue he wants us to get in toucvh with iour hunger and use that as the only reason we are eatting, not cause somebody else is , cause it is meal time, or cause you are boared or even cause it is induction legal to eat it. Listen to your body and learn your hunger cues. Many new to Atkins folk are some of those folk who have been long time mistakers of thirst signals as hunger signals because of the brain control chems spilling over so the first thing you want to do when you think you are hungery is drink a glass of water while you start to plan the menu and get things ready. if in 20 min the huger is gone you were thirsty and need to put that food you are preparing up for later when you truely are hungry.

When you truely are hungry or that 6 hr rule of eatting on induction has arrived you need to eat some carbs some fat and some proteins and stop the minute your hunger is satisfied even if you got room in your belly, food on the plate, or carbs in your budget. That is hiow folk eatting Atkins became Atkins successes. Soon our friend ketosis will kick in and your appetite will be suppressed and you will be eating according to the 6 hr rule and not eating near the amount of foods and cals you were when you started induction.

now another scale weight issue As we eat our Atkins with the 30 % protein intake and 65% fats of induction and doing our mandatory exercise part of our Atkins we are going to be adding lean body tissue to our body. I refer to Atkins as the morphing of our mass. We shed fat mass, add muscle mass, and our fluid mass because of complicated bio chem reasons will be in a constant stat of flux so those loviely metal monsters many of us have placved high on our values chart will not be validating our hard work doing our Atkins on a consistant bases. Say this week you shed 4 pounds of fat mass added 2 pounds of muscle mass and another 2 pounds of water mass. Scales can only tell us the effect of gravity on our total mass not the changing percents going on and you are crying when you shoiuld be celebrating! Make friends with your tape measure and watch those pounds of fat mealting off your body.

As we lose weight our caloric needs for doing the exact same thing decrease by about 9 cals a pound for femals so either we have to decrease our intake of food or become more active to burn more cals. Many folk don't understand this issue and lament the fact they are eating the exact same amount of food in the exact same quantiies and not having the success they had early on doing Atkins.

Later as you approach your goal weight a loss of one single pound represents a much larger change in the percent of your total body weight then it did when you began your program and it could take weeks to lose that pound which is another reason why Dr Atkins recommends taking 6 months in premaintnenance to lose those last 5 pounds.

Armed with knowledge about how the program works you can better accept those scale number misinformation days better.

Now about your fat intake yes atkins is a high fat program but you want to eat about 65% of your total cals as fat 30% as proteins and keep your carbs under the 20 net on your fitday reports not the 80% you currently have so some food intake adjustments are needed on your part.

                    Happy low carbing.

                        Just want to add...

You don't have to go overboard with fat. I have a stickie at the top of this forum you might want to read.

1 boiled egg has fat/protein/carb percentage of 64/33/3. So you technically don't need to eat it with "alot" of cheese or butter in order to eat "enough" fat.

                          ((( Savannah)))

Weight loss is not the same for everyone! This way of eating does work, and I realize it's hard not to stress at first while you're learning the guidelines and what works for you, but stick with it and read the book again.

Important info for us to help:
                          - What is your height and weight?
                          - Did you take your measurements
                          - Have you lost any pounds or inches?

Some people don't get whooshies. Don't worry about that.

The first year I tried Atkins, I tried it three different times before having success. I wasn't dedicated to it, didn't really believe in it, and didn't find a support group like this to help me. Now I can't imagine where I would be without it. I love the foods I eat, have lost most of my weight (and learned to keep it off!), have more energy, and my bloodwork is excellent.

Will it be a long one, Savannah?

As to your fitday numbers - make sure you have the correct quantities entered - when I first started using it I was horrified to find I had ate 3000+ carbs but on closer inspection found it had entered one egg as one CUP of eggs and one cup of olive oil instead of one tablespoon and so on. This is because it had those amounts down as the default ones!

Hang in there a bit longer. Learning to do Atkins properly takes awhile, but these are changes for life, and you will get there eventually. Check the book, do you feel better? I didn't lose much on induction but I my body is changing and I feel good,
