  • I need some inspiration......sigh....

Hi My name is Yani & I HAVE to loose weight. I am a total carb junkie! I am 28 y/o and have 3 kids ALL BOYS! ages 3 months - 10. I am also a compulsive eater, I eat when I am sad, stressed or even bored I feel like I have lost control of myself! I weigh 233lbs on a 5'1 1/2 frame! I want to play with my kids. My 10 y.o has just been diagnosed as High Function Autism. I want to be his example, teach him how to ride a bike, run, climb all the things that this stupid Autism makes so hard for him to do. I need a buddy......somewhere to go when I can't help but eat.

Hi Yani! So your son was diagnosed with Aspergers? My oldest son has that too. We've known since he was in 1st grade and now he's in 6th and doing well! Yes, the autism makes their life a lot harder but you'll be amazed how things will change for him now that you know what's wrong. My son can actually hold a conversation now and *almost* keep eye contact. It will get better for your son...just keep the faith and be patient. We're here for you if you need to vent/share/ask questions. This entire board will be your buddy!!! We're here for you! You might think of starting a journal...it can really help to get things out of your head and the journalers are an amazing group! Welcome to ADBB!

Yani-- as everyone else has already said, you have SO come to the right place! I'd like to recommend that in addition to the 2002 version of the Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution, you also buy Dr Phil's 7 strategies for weight loss book.

It deals with the emotional; and psychological reasons behind eating.

This is so important, because a lot of us eat when we feel out of control, helpless, and hopeless.

                  Welcome!
As it was mentioned, please read Dr. Atkin's New Diet Revolution, version 2002, DANDR for short and get familiar with the Acceptable Foods list and the Rules of Induction.

Remember that you are allowed to eat on this diet!! This is not a diet of food denial.
You'll learn which foods you are allowed to eat, and which foods you are not allowed to touch, and you'll learn the "why" behind it all, which will pulls it all together.

See my picture? I'm five feet tall and I started out at 194 pounds. I had no idea that I had the capability to lose the weight...I thought I was just genetically fat. Just by following the Rules of Induction and eating from the Acceptable Foods list, my body showed me otherwise.

A suggestion...make sure you also read the Sticky's in the forums you go to..they are full of good information and may very well answer a lot of the questions you may have. And if they don't , please feel free to ask any question you like!

All the best in the start of your exciting journey with us.

                    Re: I need some inspiration......sigh....

Welcome Yani. I also just joined this board recently and have found everyone on here to be so sweet and helpful! As for my personal opinion, one of the major things that encouraged me to get started was making that one final decision that I was not going to let food control the rest of my life. I've found that what has helped me the last 7 days (yes, I'm a newbie), has been that I am determined to be focused and make this my priority. I started thinking about this diet and what it was going to require yesterday on my way home from work and I had an epiphany. I had to be as focused on being healthy and strong as I was on other successful goals in my life. Before I thought of a diet as a burden on the side but now I've made it a full part of my life and the results in just 7 days have been amazing. I had so little confidence that I was even afraid to post on here. My personality has changed so much in the last 7 days and I know that a lot of my accomplishments are because of the changes in my mindset and the wonderful people on this board. I don't get tired of thanking everyone out here for their wonderful stories. People like Cleo who are so knowledgeable and such a great inspiration. My sis Yoly who has done an amazing job in losing 50 pounds and her friend Sarah who's a lean mean burning machine There are so many many other people that have great stories to share and we need you to be a part of our family, so welcome. You're in a great place!

This may seem like too much, but I really had to share. Love ya'll.

Welcome Yani! This will be one of the hardest things you will do but you have some great reasons behind your motivation! I am only on Day 3 and I am feeling all the support from this wonderful board already!

If you want to create a buddy group or just check in daily, I would be happy to join you! We can do this!

A food journal is great- I write all my foods down and then enter them into www.fitday.com. It helps me manage my food intake. I like being held accountable for what I eat.

Stay strong- be prepared-planning and journals-water- and lots of hugs from your kids!

                              Hi Yani!

Have you checked out some of the before & after pictures? I find those to be inspirational. When I start feeling upset & thinking about all those bad-carb foods, sometimes I go "food shopping". Not to buy food. To search for lo-carb recipes. I print a few out and before long, I've got some good recipes and I'm usually not hungry anymore. And if I am hungry, I've got a couple new things to try.

You should do the journal thing. I think it's a good way to keep yourself in check. I know lots of people circle the journals and give each other kind words of encouragement. I think it helps a lot.
