Re: What is the problem?? Atkins is making me fatter!!!

    Hi Diva,

I totally agree with Cleo, get back on NOW! And if your cravings are that strong for sweets, then completely avoid all sugar substitutes during Induction. It's hard for a few days, but REALLY the cravings will subside so much faster if you stop feeding them.

And yes, you really do need to add the veggies into your menu, I don't think I saw one mentioned. Try to add high fiber selections, spinach, romaine, etc. Make a nice salad for lunch with a protein of choice and dressing (watch the carbs on those, or make a homemade version), add something to your dinner too, steamed broccoli is yummy!

Diva, do you have the book? If so, re-read the induction chapter and follow it, you'll be successful!

48 hours from this very minute, which knocks off a full 18 hours, or are you going to prolong the agony? Me, I'm about about less agony.
I have the book, so I'll re-read the induction chapter. My friend let me borrow her Atkins Essentials and I'll read that too.
Pickles and Salsa aren't they considered to be vegetables?
      Tomorrow I'll start.
So, Wednesday is the day. Friday I will be cravings free? I think it might take me longer than that. More like 2 weeks because I was still craving after 2 days of clean induction.
I'm totally addicted to sweets, totally.
I need to kick this habit.
So, no more gum for me. No more Splenda (bought it for nothing). No more artificial sweetners period. I am going to go nuts!!! But, I must do it.
I will print out the Induction list now, thank you for the link =)

Pickles and salsa are by no means sufficient vegetables to count toward your veggies for Atkins. Pickles can also be high in sodium.

You need real wholesome veggies, as are on the induction list. Broccoli, spinach, etc. And whole servings, preferably at each meal. Try and get the real good veggies with nutrients as much as possible, especially during induction. I ate mostly broccoli, cauliflower, romaine lettuce (if I had lettuce, I made sure I had a real veggie serving too), green beans, cucumbers, and brussel sprouts during induction. Salads would have some "extras" such as tomatoes, cucumbers, mushrooms, peppers, which I did add up the carb count for.

Veggies are not optional! If I don't get my veggies, I stall. Update your menu to include veggies and post it here for more review. I learned so much from the folks here into doing Atkins right. And you have to do it right or it doesn't work as well.

When you reread the induction section..make sure you read the part about veggies as well. you should be getting 3 cups of veggies from the acceptable list a day. Salsa would be considered a condiment i would think..rather than a veggi IMO.

also that land o lakes whipped cream. is it sweeteend? Even not sweetened 18T seems like an awful lot. more than a cup (there are 16T in a cup). There is a cream limit as well..cant remember it offhand.

Great on re-reading the book! And you're right, if the sweets are a real problem, then it might take you longer than a couple of days. But, if you were eating whipped cream in that quantity during your first few days, you most likely haven't gotten the sugar out of your system.

And don't worry about the Splenda, you'll be able to use it down the road, it'll keep!

And no, you won't go nuts, be strong...you can do it, keep reminding yourself of the goal!

Re: What is the problem?? Atkins is making me fatter!!!

Sadie147 mentioned a limit on cream - here is the quote for that:
                  Allowed beverages:
Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three tablespoons a day; note carbohydrate content)
                  and
                  Special Category Foods
To add variety, each day you can also eat 10 to 20 olives or half a small avocado or an ounce of sour cream or three ounces of unsweetened heavy cream, as well as two to three tablespoons of lemon juice or lime juice. But be aware that these foods occasionally slow down weight loss in some people, and may need to be avoided in the first two weeks. If you seem to be losing slowly, moderate your intake of these foods.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

And be prepared that you may feel like CACA for several days as the sugar leaves your body!! My headache and unwellness lasted a total of 5 days. You may be unfortunate enough that you will not even be able to do the gum. Please consider doing a CLEAN induction with real foods..including two cups of salad(not just lettuce) and 1 cup other vegies...limit your cream and cheese. Drink lots of water. Really...do this the right way for 2 weeks. Promise yourself you will invest 2 weeks into yourself...you are worth it and then you will not be wasting your time! Trust me...I was TOTALLY addicted to the sugar...10-12 glasses of ice tea made up really really dark and then coffee with at least (embarassed here) 2 TABLESPOONS of sugar and coffeemate or evaportated milk...A DAY!!!! I didn't even use Splenda until I was almost done the second week. I have no cravings for it anymore. Induction is great for detoxing...and just think...giving into your cravings are like a junkie needing a fix...is that who you want to be?? Just my opinion!!

As it's been pointed out to you, you haven't really done a proper Induction if you feel that salsa and pickles are vegetables, and with all that heavy cream it's no wonder your results were not what you see happening to others.

I strongly encourage you to give your copy of DANDR (Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, version 2002....we follow DANDR, not the Essentials...the info is slightly different) a really good read and understand why you need to deal with your addiction to sweets.
Yes, you will feel like garbage for a week, but once you get through it, you'll be fine and you won't be downing a can of whipping cream like that anymore. You'll have sent that sugar demon on his evil destructive way.

I also encourage you to start a thread in the Review My Menu Forum. This'll help keep you accountable for what you are eating, and it'll help to have objective eyes look at your foods and help you learn what direction to go in. Make sure and read the sticky in there on "How to post a menu" so it makes our job easier, thanks!

Did I see you mention you were using Fitday? If not, www.fitday.com is a really awesome tool to let you know where you are with your foods. Here's a link to help you learn how to use it

Tomorrow is a new day and a new opportunity to do this right!

OH no don't pig out on junk! You will be out of Ketosis and it will
become harder to stay/get on track, let alone the crazy havoc with
Insulin surges and storage of more fat (no, no don't want that !).

It's not always about weight loss, it's also about taking care of your

to resolve, it's very clever at doing so but it has dramtic effects for you.
