  • Can't control my carb intake

Hey everyone, i have been reading alot on Atkins. I have learnt that you should start off on 20 grams of carbs a day. I just dont see how this can be done i need some help.

For eg. just for lunch today i had no fat tuna on two rye crackers. each cracker had 11grams of carbs. Im allready over the limit from one meal, that seems good for you!

Even most Weight Watcher microwave meals we have here have atleast 10grams of carbs a meal.

    What do i do?

Read the book. Read the stickie sin the induction forum. On induction - the 14 day phase when you are allowed 20 grams of carbs (fiber deucted) only, you are not allowed to eat grains, but meat, fish cheese, and vegetables.

Get yourself a copy of DANDR (dr. Atkins new Diet Revolution, 2002 ed) and read it.

Oh, and you are not supposed to eat low-fat. Fat satiates the hunger.

I dont feel hungry but. So im happy with the no fat. Also the Atkins deit has eggs, butter ect. I dont remember the last time i ate these foods so why should i? :P

Butter gives you cholesterol, margarine can make u blind. and i dont really like eggs.

You might be happy with the no fat, but you will have cravings without it. The book explains the reasoning behind induction. I suggest you get a copy and then decide if Atkins is right for you.

For a proper induction, you would lose the crackers and probably any frozen dinners, too, due to the carb counts.

Butter doesn't increase your cholesterol, it's the excess carbs that aren't burned up during the day that are stored as fat in the body and lipids in the blood. Eggs are not an essential part of the diet, just very convenient.

Atkins is a high fat plan. Most low-fat foods contain sugar, which will FEED the cravings. I agree, READ THE BOOK, and it will all make sense.

          FAT MAKES YOU THIN.

You should go into the "review my menu" forum so you can see a typical daily menu. The amount of foods you can eat will shock you. You could never eat this much food an loose weight on any other plan out there BUT you have to do it right. Like everyone else said, buy the book and learn how the plan works. Theres more to it than just eating eggs.

I'm moving this thread to the "Induction Forum" because this is more of an Induction type problem than it is a "Maintenance" one.

                Hey Garilla,
Just want to say it can be done, but I find it takes a lot of planning. I was not used to this, so I came up with a recording sheet that has 'saved my bacon'. I've sent it to this thread's moderator, not2late, or you can email me directly.

First of all there is no easy fix meal for this plan unless you have cooked them and frozen them.
This may not be the diet for you if a little fat scares you.
I am American and this is one of the things Americans definantly do not get enough of fat, hence making us the fattest country, you think they would get it by now.

We eat whole foods such as fresh meats chicken, beef, fish, lamb, pork, ect...
Fresh veggies or frozen from the acceptable foods list
Such as spinach, broccoli, zuchinni, brussel sprouts, onions, cucmbers, tomatoes, and there is a great list
                  Whole fat cheeses
                  heavy cream
                  eggs
Theese are Atkins foods do they interest you this woe works very well, I have lost 50 pounds in 5 months you just have to put aside what you have been told your whole life shake off that programming and use your common sense. People here feel better than they have felt in their entire lives, most of them are off their meds, bp has stabalized in a good way, no sugar spikes or drops, and asense of overall feeling good!

Here is my daily menu example

2 large egg omelet with cheese cooked in pat of butter

HAmburger/1cup spinach with some cream cheese mixed in

Chicken breast/ 2cups lettuce with vinegar oil dressing

                  snack example
                  celery with cream cheese
ham roll with cream cheese and a pickle
                  cheese
                  hard boiled egg

Stop comparing apples to oranges. Weight Watchers uses their ideals and plans and Atkins is Atkins. You need to pick the one that is best for you and run with it. Trying to fit one into the other would be anti productive.

                          Good spot, Barb!!

Folks - this thread was live a few weeks ago and Garilla seems to have faded away after a few 'odd' postings, so dont worry too much about giving him/her advice now!!

If you have some spare time you might like to do a board search for all posts by Garilla to read his/her input and reactions to the many members who tried to give honest helpful advice about the Atkins WOE but ended up 'feeding the troll'.

I am therefore locking this thread now.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
