  • ok im confused

    from reading all the posts on the board and all
    On inductions
    is it 3 cups of salad
    and one cup of veggies?
    Or is it total 3 cups and it doesnt matter wether its veggies or salad?

    Does this help at all? Especially the bit that I have underlined in Red.

    Vegetables
    You can have two to three cups per day of:

    alfalfa sprouts
    daikon
    mushrooms
    arugula
    endive
    parsley
    bok choy
    escarole
    peppers
    celery
    fennel
    radicchio
    chicory
    jicama
    radishes
    chives
    lettuce
    romaine lettuce
    cucumber
    moche
    sorrel
    These salad vegetables are high in phytonutrients and provide a good source of fiber.

    Other Vegetables
    You can have one cup per day of these veggies if salad does not exceed two cups. The following vegetables are slightly higher in carbohydrate content than the salad vegetables:

    artichoke
    celery root
    pumpkin
    artichoke hearts
    rhubarb
    asparagus
    chard
    sauerkraut
    bamboo shoots
    collard greens
    scallions
    dandelion
    snow peas
    bean sprouts
    dandelion greens
    spaghetti squash
    beet greens
    eggplant
    spinach
    broccoli
    hearts of palm
    string or wax beans
    broccoli rabe
    kale
    summer squash
    brussels
    kohlrabi
    tomato
    bean sprouts
    leeks
    turnips
    cabbage
    okra
    water chestnuts
    cauliflower
    onion
    zucchini
    If a vegetable, such as spinach or tomato, cooks down significantly, it must be measured raw so as not to underestimate its carb count.

      One is NOT instead of the other

        Hi Sandi,

        You can have 3 cups of salad veggies OR 2 cups salad veggies and one cup other veggies. So that's a maximum of 3 cups a day.

          No not a stupid question, the only stupid questions are those that are not asked.

          Basically, its a total of 3 cups! If you only have 2 cups from the first list, you are allowed a cup from the second list.

          But due to the amount of carbs in the veggies in the second list, you are only allowed 1 cup a day of them.

            No, it is a total of 3 cups. If you have 3 cups from the top list you can't have any from the bottom. If you only have 2 cups from the upper list, then you can have one cup from the lower list.

            Calling it GOAL at this point. I'm happy with where I am now and hope to stay there, or maybe even take it down a little more.

              I am doing something wrong here and I am trying to fine tune my diet and lose.
              and I wanted to make sure that wasnt the problem

              so last night I had 3 cups of salad and no veggies
              Went out for dinner, is it ok to do that occ.

                You MUST spread your veggie intake out over the day, to avoid blood sugar spikes.

                You can go out for dinner, but what did you have when you were out?

                  Ovf cours eit is ok to go out for dinner just watch your carbs and food intake. DANDR lists ideas for healthy choices sif you are eating out. Take the wallet.sized allowed foods list with you and make sure you are eating allowed foods, if in doubt, ask your waiter if there is sugar in dressings or whatever you order.

                    You can go out for dinner, but what did you have when you were out?

                    I had a grilled chicken salad, no dressing
                    mostly salad greens, 4 strips of pepper, it had 8 olives but I bought them home for snack later in the night
                    I didnt eat the tomatos, (not a fan of them) and I had one slice of cukes. It was about 3 cups of the salad and didnt have any others all day.
                    It also came witha large grilled chicken no spices etc

                      That sounds ok, but you really need to spread your veggies out throughout the day quite evenly.

                          Don't know about your favorite foods. I'd go for grilled prawns, or sashimi, or fish - sea bass, monkfish - I love fish grilled, baked, poached. stuffed with herbs... in a salt crust... or chateaubriand (beef & bearnaise)... or venison. When I pay for restaurant foods I try to eat things I wouldn't prepare at home or not that good, anyway.

                          A great low carb night out is rodizio - a Brazilian grill, you pay a fee for a whole evening, salad buffet and sides included, and are served various meats from a charcoal grill, sliced right onto your plate. Hold those caipirinhas, of course...
