  • what do you pack for lunch

    hey all,
    what do you guys pack to take to work that other people don't look at you like you are a freak for eating???? i ate bunless cheeseburgers for a while and i am really getting sick of seeing everyone looking at me like 'could she EAT more fat?'. it is so discouraging. of course when a bunch of women sit down to eat, everyone HAS to comment one what everyone else is eating. why this is, i do not know, but it is just a fact.
    i am getting really sick of chicken drumsticks and salad with chicken/tuna thrown on it. any ideas?? i feel good that i am losing weight, but i don't feel like defending my diet at work or really even talking about it....what can i eat that packs well and doesn't stand out so much?

    In a plastic food container a layer of frozen veggies on the bottom and some
    leftover meat (e.g. pot roast, chicken breast) on top. I have access to a microwave,
    so 10 minutes before lunch they get zapped, and it is a hot lunch.

      that sounds yummy! do you put any sort of sauce/cheese/butter to make it creamier, or just eat as is?

        I bring leftovers to work. Last night I had chicken vegetable soup for dinner. So that was lunch today. We have a microwave and a toaster oven here so I can heat up things. But if I didn't, I still would bring my soup or other hot foods for lunch---I'd just heat it in the morning, then pack it in a thermos.

          First of all, don't give a rat's @ss what anyone thinks of how you eat! Forget what they think and eat exactly what you want, knowing its healthy and will be the very best FUEL your body needs.

          That said .. oh my gosh, pack a huge salad, say some baby spinach, a couple of hard boiled eggs, some celery, onions, black olives, some avocado (?), full fat dressing on top and savor every bite!

            Yep, I almost always have leftovers. Whatever we have for dinner is what I have for lunch the next day. Today was actually leftover from Sunday night, Eggplant lasagna and a salad.

            Most of the time the folks I work with are envious of my lunch! They even asked if they could make me the official "lunch lady" and make me in charge of bringing lunch for everyone LOL

                  Just ate it, 2 chicken thighs. I don't like my food touching so it wasnt on the plate. But even some hard boiled eggs would work.

                    that looks yum!! thanks for the suggestions, guys. i think my problem is i am not used to eating 'dinner' food for lunch....i guess in my 'pre' atkins days, lunch was usually a sandwich, yogurt, and apple, with dinner being more of a cooking production. couple that with i am a horrible cook, and i usually look for things that i can 'put together' for lunch more than a cooked meal.
                    taking your suggestions, i just went to the grocery and bought a rotisserie chicken breast which i will cut up and throw in the tupperware lined with cooked veggies...that sounds easy and yummy. thanks for the suggestion! also, i do like salad, but was just getting tired of the same old routine. i forgot, ttdriver, that avocado can be added, as well as other options instead of just lettuce/cucumbers. thanks!

                      How about ham/cream cheese or sliced cheese rollups and some cherry tomatoes?
                      Or celery filled with pate?

                        I love love love a chicken cobb salad. Lettuce, a couple of grape or cherry tomatoes, cheese of your choice (I like blue cheese but it is an aquired taste), lots of bacon bits, some chopped ripe olive, and grilled chicken strips or even some steak strips. I do Ranch or Blue Cheese dressing. Everyone will be wanting your salad. LOL Or make an Italian Salad like from Olive Garden with lettuce, tomato, a tiny bit of red onion, parmesan cheese, some peppers and Italian dressing. Or a Chicken Ceasar Salad with lettuce, bacon bits, parmesan cheese, and chicken strips with Ceasar Dressing. I always get people at work wanting my salads when they see them. Nothing better than fresh vegetables with some meat piled on. My husband and I love to make salad at home with everything lettuce, tomato, cucumber, green pepper, radishes, bacon bits, cheddar cheese, slice up some ham and turkey. We make a meal out of it. Oh yeah don't forget taco salad, taco meat, lettuce, tomato, cheddar cheese, sour cream, and some salsa or taco sauce for dressing. I even had leftover shrimp one day and brought lettuce and tomato and piled on that shrimp with Ranch dressing. One of my bosses saw it and wanted it. I just said this is what I love about atkins having meat on my salads. haha He had to throw in a comment about as long as you don't eat too much of it. Yeah bite me. LMAO Can you tell I love salad?????

                        I also bring leftovers if we have any. One day I made meatloaf and my husband saw me packing the leftovers the next morning and he was like you going to take all that to work with you. You betcha! I'm having it for breakfast. Usually when I make meatloaf, baked chicken, pork chops I have leftovers and I just do a simple salad with it for lunch.

                          those salads sound amazing! thanks! the problem for me is, i work 13 hours at a time, so i have to pack 2 meals, lunch and dinner, or else i eat when i get home just before going to bed which makes me feel ill. it is just a lot to organize and plan, for 2 meals at work plus snacks. but these ideas are really helpful. i always bring at least 3 hard boiled eggs to work with me, some string cheese, some sugar free jello, and then the salad with the meat. the ham and cheese roll ups idea is perfect for a late afternoon snack. thanks guys!
                          ttdriver, i know i am supposed to not give a crap what others think, but you know how self conscious being overweight makes you in the first place, and then to have everyone looking to see what you are pulling out for lunch....why can't everyone just MYOB or be ultra supportive of everyone else?? sigh...

                            hi Party...
                            I know what you mean... the people at my old job were anything but supportive, pushing all the muffins and dontuts my way...

                            I would have never thought about the dinner/lunch dilemma! neat! I just eat anything at all times....
                            I've just gotten into a quiche kick (say that 3 times fast ) and I love how easy it is... it freezes wonderful, impossible to screw up and it won't even spill all over the place...

                            I also love making curry chicken, also really simple 1.chicken 2. fresh ginger, grated 3.curry paste 4.a teaspoon of sour cream. all in one pan, and reheats great...

                            and I like roasted veggies but they take a long time in the oven, so I just make them at the beginning of the week, and they can be nuked in a second.
