Re: Donor Meat
Aha, like a lamb gyro. Took me a while. Doner kebab
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doner_kebab
If it's just the meat then no harm i suppose, but I know when it comes to these things, sometimes you'll find there are other ingredients hiding inside. In Canada it's prepared with flour and a bunch of other ingredients, so it depends on how it's prepared.

Re: Donor Meat
Yes, dotsamantha is right - doner kebab/gyro meat CAN be fine if it has no 'non-legal' ingredients.
You will need to get a look at the label on the pack of meat if they buy it ready-made or ask the outlet what they put in it if they make it themselves.
then check that all the listed ingredients are on the allowed list!Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Re: Donor Meat
I think it depends where in the world you are. In England, Doner meat is packed full of fillers. (I assume you are talking about the "elephants leg" that you see displayed in the window of a kebab shop)?

Re: Donor Meat
I know what kebab is (if you guys are talking about the same thing I am then it's meat on a stick that's grilled) but how it is doner? Kebab isn't supposed to be made with meat fillers?? An authentic doner kebab should be 100% lamb.
Since I live in America and it's impossible to find anywhere that serves it this way I make my own slightly different alternative called kafta (Ku-f-tah) with fresh ground meat (lamb if I can get it), parsley, mint, allspice, cinnamon, salt and pepper and it looks like this:

My family eats it on a warm pita with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and a big dolop of yogurt on top.

Re: Donor Meat
You're right meena-beena - it ought not to have fillers but much of the commercially prepared 'doner' meat which is sold by fast food outlets in UK is made down to a cheap price and do contain fillers to bulk it up!Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Re: Donor Meat
Oh--you guys have fast food places that serve this stuff? Wow! Is it like a McDonalds type thing?
That explains the fillers. I can't imagine how they could actually taste good because the actual fresh lamb one is out of this world amazing.
But then again, my own kids would rather eat a burger from McDonalds than one I grill at home anyday. Grrr.
