  • Help...deja Vu all over again!

I am new to this forum and posted in my Introduction that I had attempted Atkins before, only to be sidetracked by my husband who brought home pizza for dinner on day 4 1/2 of Induction.

So here I am today, months after previously attempting Atkins and failing with that first bite of pizza....ready to give it that good ole try again......Day 1 of Induction and loe and behold, guess who just walked in the house with a pizza!!!!! This is while I stand at the stove getting ready to boil water to steam some veggies. So can you imagine my delimma...veggies?....pizza?...
    veggies?....pizza?....veggies?...pizza?....veggies?......PIZZA?....
    VEGGIES?....PIZZA?????
I've separated myself from the kitchen and retreated to the computer room to post this. Out of sight out of mind..right? Seems to be working a bit...any other time, I would have eaten the pizza and just started over "tomorrow". Do you know how many "last suppers" I've had!?!
I really like my pizza hot and cheesy anyway...(what can I say, I eat for taste!). So now that I've been here on the computer, the pizza has cooled off and no longer meets my criteria. It'll be easier now to go back to the kitchen and finish steaming those veggies!!!

    Thanks for listening.........................

OMG...again. You were supposed to tell him NOT to bring pizza home the first two weeks! I don't know...maybe you should have a heart to heart with your hubby and tell him how important this is to you and that you really need his support. Way to go for you though not giving in to temptation. Great Job! You go steam those veggies and enjoy every scrumptious bite knowing you're on your way to a happier, healthier you!

Well done from backing away from the pizza

inhisgrip was right though - you do need to recruit your husband onto your support team.

Dr Atkins has a section in DANDR about just this problem.
I dont have my copy with me so perhaps some kind member can post the chapter number where this appears?

You need to let him know what you are eating and what you will not eat - just to make sure he isnt wasting money on stuff you dont want to eat - notice I am not saying you cant eat it (we all know we can if we choose to) but that you will not eat it.

So print out your list of allowed foods and pin it in your kitchen and ask him to help you stay onplan. After all he wants you to be together and enjoying the best of health for a long time, doesnt he?
The healthier you are the longer that can happen.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Yeah, I know....I just kept saying (1/2 playfully, 1/2 serious)..."Why would you do this to me?...why'd you do that to me!!!" We laughed a little bit at how hard I was struggling (I kept looking at the pizza box!). He apologized...said he was "bad" to do that...he wasn't thinking.
Truth of the matter though....he only knows I am "trying to eat right" and stay away from carbs, but doesn't know I am actually doing ATKINS per say. I know he will be o.k. with the change from process foods, sugars, flour and starches, etc..but I don't know about the concept of ATKINS all together- so many people are skeptical for so many reasons....I am going to lose a good amount of weight first before filling him in on the details.
Pretty proud though that I bypassed the pizza! Ended up having baked tilapia fish and steamed artichoke with garlic butter.

            good for you

you do know you can eat pizza even on induction if you toss that dispossible plate they serve it on.

try cooking BIKERGODESS pizza for both of you and then tell hubby you will be happy to make the pizza and save the dough

Yeah, totally. Just grab a fork and get the cheese off. It sounds messy but it's legal.

Quitstretchin, I can relate. My guy does the same thing. In he comes with ice cream and baguettes and you name it. I look at it as a challenge now, recognizing that I can't change other people's behaviour. If it is not him it will be someone else so I'm actually grateful in a strange way that my resolve is being tested. Once past the two weeks it gets much much easier to say no to these foods. You just don't need them like you did and I'd have eaten the pizza topping of course.

I'm right there with ya, if I could lose ten pounds for every "final blow-out" I've had, I'd be at my goal weight.

Re: Help...deja Vu all over again!

Ok, so next time he brings home a pizza (while he's not looking) remove the topping off the whole Pizza and leave the crust in the box for him. Tee-hee!

After the first few days on induction I didn't crave carbs anymore, so just try to get 'er done! I even made my famous mashed potatos for everyone to go with their hamburger steak and I made broccoli and cauliflower for us all too. I savored the real butter on my broccoli and cauliflower and I really didn't miss the mashed potatos at all. I find this eating plan very easy to eat with others usually. So far so good. The best part is losing FAST!

Re: Help...deja Vu all over again!

So good to feel the support. Yesterday seemed easier than today. I have a slight headache, some hunger pains (probably need to drink more water) but overall doing o.k. Had a veggie and cheese omelet for breakfast, 2 turkey sausages for "brunch", buffalo wings for lunch...haven't had dinner yet, but my husband is stuck at work and wont be home until I am well in bed, so I can choose dinner tonight without temptation from him and his choice.
I agree with you "aggie", we cant control others. Plus, why should I. My husband is dedicated to working out daily and because he wants to reward himself sometimes (which he successfully burns off at his next workout) is not my issue...he deserves his choices...I'm the one with the weight/health issue.

Congrats on getting through day 2. You're doing great! You may get headaches for a few days but it'll pass. I had them for about the first 3-4 days. Yes drink, drink, drink your water...I'm preaching to myself here. lol Keep up the good work and you'll see that scale move in no time.

How is your progress going? I see you hinted at needing to drink more water also. What day are you in Induction or are you in extened? I see you are inching towards your short term goal. Great job, keep it up. Thanks for the encouragemen as well!
