  • cant do it :( ....... so fed up

after falling off the wagon cause i only lost 5lbs in 3 months last year I have tried to start again over the past couple of weeks and i just cant get back into it,
I have had monster headaches, felt tired and blocked up and end cheating after a week of atkins. Kids packed lunch snack bars and things call me from the cupboards and i cant stop myself. I only have 1 or a sugar in coffee but then i know ive blown it.
I weigh 11 stone 3lbs am 5'1 tall and want to get to 10 stone. not even to the 8.10lbs which is upper weight for my height.
I dont know how people on here lose weight so well and the before and after pics are so inspiring but I feel my body is againt me and so stubbornly holds only to fat, My ketone sticks have never changed colour and im having nothing with carbs in except for a little salad.
I dont think i will ever lose this baby weight (the are 6 and 8 now !!).
Im so depressed about it, i have PCOS so cuttng out carbs should help that too.
Im at a loss really I am

I feel for you.... I know it's hard. Even after all this time I still struggle sometimes...
But it comes down to this - how badly do you want it?
The choice is up to you. Nobody here can give you the motivation you need to change your body or your life!
If you want to lose weight, then do it!
Own up to the fact that the snacks in the pantry aren't calling your name. If those things are too hard to resist right now then get them out out of the house. Your kids will be better off too! They may not like it but tuff!!!
Everyday you have a fresh start... Believe it or not, you are in control. It's tuff. Nobody ever said this was going to be an easy journey. But it's one of the most important journeys of your life!
Stay strong... You can do this! It's just food... Remember that. It's only food. It WILL get easier, I promise!!!

yep clean the house of all the high carb stuff and then just do it.

Should you jump off the wagon practice carb harm reduction and make the very next bit Atkins induction every time. Soon you will have less jump offs and longer periods in between but if you say well it's blown for today so i might as well have X,y and z too then you will have a harder journey.

Face it you are an addictr a high carb addict and you need to detox and be strong. When the pleasure you get from that high carb fix costs you more then the enjoyment of it is worth to you you will be able to stop and do a cheat free Atkins. it really is that simple so write down all the reasons you want to stop eatting high carb and do Atkins. then write down all the reasons why you want to keep eating those high carb treats. assign each reason a value from 1-100 and you can use a number more then once total your lists and if the Atkins list has a higher number you are ready to quit highcarbing. if it doesn't you aren't.

Re: cant do it ....... so fed up

I know what you mean SLG... Notice my join date is March 2004!!! I finally got serious about this just this week... over two years later. I have PCOS, too, and am trying to lose the weight (finally) through low-carbing to help concieve.

Just take it easy this week--lots of water and rest until you are done going through withdrawal. Make sure to keep all junk out of your house!

Your children will benefit, too. If they need snacks and lunches, give them string cheese, or nuts, or cut-up veggies in addition to a sandwich. Then keep the bread out of sight. If they absolutely need snacks, make sure it is something you hate so there is not temptation to eat it (eg. my husband insists on having treats, so he gets black licorice, which I cannot STAND).

Also, you can search the recipe board for sweet things that are low-carb and have that if you REALLY REALLY need it (eg. mock Danish).
        It's now or never.

I just started back on wagon today and I went grocery shopping yesterday.. my family eats a lot of tv dinners so I bought them those and instead of cookies and chps for nsacks I bought them fruits and veggies.. so hopefully we can all benefit from this!
You can do it girly.. I read a few weeks ago that saying "nothing taste better than being thin?" or something like that.. that is always in my mind and will use that for when I see something I want!
Good luck!!!! we can do it!!!!!!!

Re: cant do it ....... so fed up

I just got done reading a book called "If How'To's Were Enough, We would All Be Skinny, Rich, & Happy".

One of the things that caught my attention was where he talks about a person's TRUE INTENTIONS.

He says "You can tell people's true intentions by the results they achieve, because intentions and results are always one and the same."

He then says "Did you set a New Year's resolution? Did you break it? If so...keeping the resolution was not your true intention. Your true intention was something else. Perhaps it was to be right about why you can't keep your New Year's resolutions. Perhaps it was to be comfortable without challenging yourself."

He then says "You have conflicting intentions. You want to lose weight but you don't want to be disciplined...The bigger intention is your true intention and it ALWAYS wins. The game becomes making what you want your true intention by raising its intensity higher than conflicting intention."

Ways he says you can raise the intensity of the intention of losing weight, or whatever it is that you want:
            1. "Commit aloud to a friend who believes in you"
            2. "Put your finances at risk"--maybe you could give someone some money or something valuable that says if I don't do this, give the money to charity or keep it or something.
            3. "Visualize" see yourself ONLY eating Atkins, see yourself being in situations where there are bad choices...but realize there are STILL CHOICES that you make...to eat the bad or not eat the bad and visualize yourself making the right choices, and see yourself thin. Do this ALL the time!!

            Just some thoughts.

Don't give up, Strange! You can do this!!! I, as well as others, understand how hard it can be. We have been there. The point of this forum is to draw strength and to acquire information. By all means, use the resources here. It is not that this will not work for you; you just need some positive motivation and a reassessment of your approach on this WOE. Give it another try. It is so worth it.

I know it is a natural reaction to have, but try not to think this!

When you started to learn to read I am sure you made many mistakes, but once you made them you didnt give it all up and not try again, did you.

Learning how to follow Atkins can involve many false starts, as many of our members will attest, but if every time you do slip you just carry on following the way of eating as if you had never faltered, before too long you will realise you have made it through one day on-plan!

Think of it one meal or one temptation at a time and celebrate each time you choose an induction-friendly mouthful instead of an off-plan food. Baby steps taken one after another in spite of many tumbles and falls will result in progress in time.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Re: cant do it ....... so fed up

If all you're eating for carbs is from a small salad, then it's not enough! You need to be eating 15-20 net carbs per day, of which most of those should be coming from veggies. Salad is by no means sufficient for your carbs. It will make it much easier to stick to Atkins if you do things right and eat enough carbs and especially eat enough veggies.

Post a typical menu. There could also be other things you are eating that are triggering cravings, making it more difficult to stay focused. Caffeine is a known trigger so make sure you're drinking decaff.

Set goals, clean out the house of tempting things, and try to make it through each meal eating right (i.e. veggies at every meal) and not cheating. Then make it one day at a time. Tempted? Eat a legal snack and consider that your "cheat" and follow it up with water.

"I CAN DO THIS AND WILL DO IT" there is a bigger picture than loosing wt here ...learning how to eat great food and learning to appreciate who you are as a person...you are a success if you see yourself as one ....

Bizzlekitty is right... you need to make sure and get all of your veggies in...

However, I'm curious how salad is not sufficient - Dr. A says "3 cups of salad or 2 cups of salad w/ 1 cup other veggie" during induction... Sure, it's great to mix it up and get more veriety, but if it's ok to stick to salad w/ the Good Doctor then I say eat it!

Another thing... nix the sugar all together! If you've gotta have coffee have it w/ splenda! If you need something sweet and you can't fight the craving, grab something without sugar... there are lots of yummy induction friendly yummies you can make that will satisfy that craving... before you know it those cravings will disapear all together! And careful about the caffine, it really can trigger mad cravings...
Lastly, if you cave and have one of your kids snacks or sugar in your coffee try to be really good otherwise. By no means is that sticking to Atkins and in the long run you're just making it that much harder on yourself, but if it happens, just have one and then do some extra exercise and really watch your carbs for the rest of the day...
                      And don't forget WATER!!!

I think when people here say 'salad is not sufficient ' they actually mean 'lettuce alone is not sufficient'
Many people ignore or dont notice the long list of what Dr Atkins called 'salad vegetables' and think they must only eat lettuce!
                        2-3 cups a day of :
alfalfa sprouts daikon mushrooms arugula endive parsley bok choy escarole peppers celery fennel radicchio chicory jicama radishes chives lettuce romaine lettuce cucumber moche sorrel
So dont just choose plain lettuce (iceberg lettuce is virtually chewy water) but mix up the many varieties on the 'salad veggies' list instead to get the benefit of a variety of vitamins and nutrients in them.

Re: cant do it ....... so fed up

You CAN do this. Remind yourself this. If you tell yourself that you can't, chances are that you will fail.

There's an old adage "we get what we expect," and I really believe that.

The responses in this thread have given you some really great practical Atkins advice. Please also try talking to yourself positively. Tell yourself "I CAN do this. I WILL do this." After a while, you will believe it.

One meal at a time. It takes about 40 days for the human mind to form a habit. Maybe rather than setting weight goals (over which we at times have limited control), you should set goals that you absolutely can control, like days or weeks on the plan. If you can make it through the habit-forming phase, you may just wake up one day a seasoned low-carber.

                          Don't give up hope!
No stats. Not weighing anymore ever. Will post "before and after" pictures when I want to. The end.

                          Vigilance, not perfection.

Thankyou for your replies i had only read the first one and kicked myself up the bum
and having come back to update iev read all the other ones. You lot are a real help

I wrote down what i was eating to the letter for a week, every mouthful of everything, i realised i was picking at things and not even realising, kids left overs, milk in tea at work sometimes ect.

Have been sticking to it for the past 2 weeks and have gone from 11stone .4.5 lbs to 10st 12.5 this morning.
Eating veges and salad a day, drinking alot of water and feeling a whole lot more in control of my cravings. Not being hungry at all is a godsend as when my sugar got low before i would grab anything to hand to stop feeling jittery.
Have to get to 10st to be able to get my motorbike leathers done up so i have incentive and my bf has a smart new motorbike too.
thankyou everyone for your help. Its been hard to egt into the hang of it and
I so miss fruit but I will have some one day lol when im nearer to my goal
