  • Induction food plan?

    Hi everyone,

Just started the Atkins diet one day ago .
I'm the kind of person who is terrible when it comes of improvising.
What would really help me is a foodplan. Where there are suggestions on
breakfast, lunch, dinner and 'in-between-meals' when you're on the
    induction-phase.
I have the Dr. Atkins new diet revolution book. I found only 1 days sample menue for induction.
There are a few more receipes at the very end of the book but I don't
know if they are meant for induction.

Are there any sites/links where I can find such foodplans?

      Re: Induction food plan?

www.sugarfreesheila.com offers lots of menu inspiration also.

May I suggest "polly-o" string cheese, as well as single size cheddar cheeses also. Hard boiled eggs are great for in-between along with the cheeses. During induction it'll benefit you to make things the night before so you don't have to think about it the next morning. If you like eggs, they make an easy breakfast. Scramble a few with spinach or any other accaeptable veggie, eat with some bacon, voila. Find dishes you like and if you can tolerate it, stick with a few favorites and it'll also help.

Get through induction by reminding yourself how great you'll feel and look. No one here or anywhere else can make you do this. It's all you.

I like beef and meat in general so I like to make a little more than necessary for dinner to give myself lunch for the next day. If you're going to be out of the house during the waking hours (work, school, etc.) bring a small lunch cooler with one of those icey block deals and pack your lunch and snack. It's always better to have too much good food with you than not enough and have to resort to eating crap.

      Drink lots of water.
      Drink lots of water.
      See above.

Make interesting salads by adding cheese, meat and as many of the acceptable veggies as possible. Focus on good fats like olive oil while in induction. If you are very low on your daily carbs, take advantage of the avocado and olive portions allowed to add more healthy fat and carbs.

Welcome to our ADBB family, Miss Newbie .
Print out a list of the induction allowed foods and have it with you when you buy, prepare and order food so you can see at a glance if you are choosing the right things.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

eggs, chicken, home-made meatballs, tuna, bacon, cheese (gouda is good!), even some sausage now and then (the swedish one that I buy has 4 gr. of carbs for 100 gr.) and 3 cups of veggies spread during the meals.
Chicken salad is a nice lunch and you can add mayo as well... or tuna salad... or cheese fried with bacon, or omelette...
just remember to use full-fat butter and no margarine, olive oil and full-fat mayo, no light versions cause usually they have more carbs.
Don't try to limit your calories intake during induction and you could use www.fitday.com to keep track of carbs daily and exercises.

              Re: Induction food plan?

Look at eating as far from your old way as possible. Use the list of allowed items. Especially at first, keep yourself full from the list, eating every few hours, whether or not you are hungry. (3-5x/day), beginning soon after rising. A meal does not have to correspond to "breakfast food" "lunch food" or "dinner food". You can eat salad in the morning with tuna & mayo, for instance, snack on celery, cream cheese, boiled eggs, pork skins, sip bouillion during cravings, etc, and have an omelette for your last meal of the day. Try to include fat, protein and some of yoour veggies with every meal. Enter your day's selection ahead of time if possible in fitday.com and aim for 70% fat, 30% protein, 5% carbs with net carbs of no more than 20g.

Again, thank you everyone for the VERY helpful info.
I can imagine Atkins beinga bit like learning how to ride a bike, the first couple of weeks you're a bit confused and it feels so new, like nothing you've done before and as soon as everything has sunk in a bit hopefully i'll be more sure of the
                    things I do =)
abbellire - I will absolutely check out your online journal!

I read in the (swedish version of the) Atkins book that I should be careful
with the dairy products in my induction days, is that so?
I thought dairy was ok, and a salade without any dressing or sauce would be
                    well...boring =(

I really like the idea of induction menues because that's easiest for
                        me. Linda's site: http://users3.ev1.net/~fontlady/index.html
                        has helped A LOT.
I'd like to know if there are more sites where I can find a few more
                        menues?

                            Re: Induction food plan?

                            My suggestion is this:

Look at the Induction Acceptable Foods list. Decide what foods you like or are willing to try. Then formulate a menu based upon that.

That's the great thing about Atkins....there are plenty of foods on that list so you can eat things you like, not things other people like. When I was doing Induction, I ate liver and onions, seared scallops, etc. If I had to follow a list like

                            Monday:
                            Meatloaf, green beans

                            Tuesday:
                            Chicken wings, turnip fries

I'd go out of my mind due to the seasonal availability of some foods and due to time constraints on food preparation.

If you visit the atkins website (www.atkins.com) they actually have a menu posted for the whole two weeks of induction. It should be listed under phase one, with lots of other helpful information.

                              Hope this helps!
