    Okay, this may be a little bit of a rant ...but I truly want to help people out here too. I keep reading post after post after post, this week especially it seems, about everyone eating their bacon and eggs and not losing weight. Or, maybe eating their eggs and bacon and then saying how it's not sustainable. Or, maybe gaining weight eating their bacon and eggs.

    News flash folks, Atkins is NOT about bacon and eggs. In fact, if I have bacon and eggs once a week I'd be surprised. You could do Atkins and NEVER eat bacon and eggs.

    Please read the book...(and whether you own up to things in public on this board, at least own up to it with yourself)....Just because you own the book doesn't necessarily mean that you READ the book. Please read it in it's entirety and then go back and study it often. There is a miracle in the pages of that book, just waiting for you to discover it!!!

    Or

    Look around this site (especially the stickies) to get the information on what Atkins really is all about...and then go read the book. LOL

    Are you eating your vegetable requirement? Did you even realize that there IS a vegetable requirement?

    Are you limiting your cheese to only 3 or 4 ounces a day?

    Are you drinking your water, 64 oz minimum plus another 8 ounces for every 25 lbs you want to lose?

    Awesome post, ValidRouge! This is a great reminder ~ i have to admit, i am guilty at times of not meeting my veggie requirement (like today, for example!) So after reading your post ~ before even typing this out ~ i ran into the kitchen and grabbed a cup of veggies to snack on while i am catching up on the board! Thanks for kicking my rear in gear, girl!

    I definitely recommend reading (really reading) the book, as you suggested! In the past when on Atkins, i had just skipped to the Induction information and that was it! That is just NOT the way to go... trust me! Read the whole thing... it will change you.

    In my case, in the past i was "afraid" of carbs... in any form... and that included veggies. But we NEED the veggies... we really do. No need to be afraid... no need. What we are doing here is RETRAINING ourselves & our eating patterns. Learning to understand our bodies, our emotions, and how we react to food. While going through the process, from Induction to climbing the Rungs to finding our CCL, we are constantly learning about ourselves and our bodies, and what types of healthy carbohydrates our bodies can handle. So when we do eventually get to spend that daily "allowence" of carbohydrates, it isn't going to be spent on crap foods, (e.g. well, the ______ "insert crap food" is only 40 grams of carbs so i can eat that and then this and that as long as i end up under my CCL...") Rather, we are learning about healthy carbohydrates & good nutritious foods. And not slipping back into our old patterns.

    It is a process... that is for sure. Sometimes all we can do is focus on one day at a time!

      Thank you so much! I'm so glad that this prompted you to eat your veggies! LOL Let's hope it helps many others around here too!!!

      I loved what you said about how reading DANDR changes you. I never thought about it in those words, but you are totally right. It does change you! It has changed me in so many ways for the better.

      You are totally right about no need in being afraid of veggies. I think it was Fawn who posted a while back and said something like she didn't know of anyone who got fat eating vegetables. That really clicked for me....and so many times when I find myself limiting myself to 3 cups or even 4 or 5 cups of veggies (I'm on OWL) I remember her saying that. Hopefully some of you who are afraid of moving into OWL will see this and go ahead and move into OWL rung 1!

      You're so right about this. This sounds like Weight Watchers and their "points". I hope everyone learns how to go through OWL the right way. If you want points, do WW not Atkins LOL

      Everyone should read DANDR to learn the "WHY" of it all. Sadly, too many people just skip to the part of "HOW". Then when it all falls apart, or their bodies aren't like everybody elses (and whose is, really?) they can't troubleshoot for themselves and are convinced that it doesn't work.

        Great post. I think a lot of people do not realize the importance of the veggies. I not only try to eat my veggies but I also try to make sure that the veggies I eat have a good amount of fiber in them. That helps to keep things moving. lol

          Ok, i hope i didnt read this wrong....But, are you saying..that for those who are doing the 3 cups of veggies a day, and not losing weight...to up it by a cup or something? (the whole 'nobody gets fat from eating veggies') ?

            Amazongrl, I would urge everyone during the first 14 days to eat according to the rules, i.e. 3 cups of salad veggies and 2+1 other veggies. It may be true you might not get fat from eating the veggies, but personally, eating a bunch of beets could cause as much cravings AND insulin reaction as eating other sugar snacks, which would lead to the fat returning. Follow the rules strictly for the first 14 days, and if you want to progress to OWL and the first rung (add 1 cup more veggies) certainly feel free to.

              Exactly! This is the way i used to look at finding your CCL when i was on Atkins before (or should i say, my own *version* of Atkins!) I see now how silly & destructive to myself this was. But again, this is a process... and part of that process is learning from our mistakes & past experiences. This time, i read the book - the whole book - and supplement that information with the information i find here at ADBB, and poof ~ it changed me.

                    I'll second Kent on that! The problem with a lof of us on induction is that we sometimes forget to eat the veggies at all ~ and that is not good. Definitely stick to the induction rules on what veggies to eat, like Kent advises.

                      And then move on to the vegetable rung of OWL and add more veggies!
                      I stayed on the veg rung for quite a while as I didnt feel 'safe' moving further up the OWL ladder, but added several '5 net carbs' worth of vegetables. So I could enjoy a wider variety of vegetables each day (still the same induction list ones but more of them!)
                      Dr Atkins suggested we would all be eating 6-8 'servings' of vegetables once we climbed the OWL ladder which is far more than the 'average' diet allows!

                        This is such an important part of Atkins. I'm so happy you addressed this and hope that everyone who is eliminating veggies starts to change their ways.

                          Amazongrl07, I'm sorry that was confusing!! If you are in the first 2 weeks of induction then by all means limit your vegetables to the 3 cups. The limitation of this is because one of the points of induction is to start to learn portion control and be aware of what a portion is.

                          After two weeks, you can certainly add 5 net carbs of vegetables in what would be known as the first rung, level, step of the Ongoing Weight Loss phase of Atkins.

                          I was trying to make a point that even during the most restrictive phase of the plan (induction) you should be eating 3 cups of vegetables a day, and then increasing that amount as you continue the plan and continue to lose weight.

                          Too many people do not eat any vegetables, or far too few vegetables, because they inaccurately believe that they know what Atkins is about...bacon and eggs!!! And my point here is that is NOT what Atkins is about.

                            Great post, guys. I have also noticed those posts about the bacon and eggs and cheese this week and I just wanted to scream. Even when it was gently pointed out about the veggies, the next day there's another post stating pretty much the same thing as before.

                            Do it by the book - EAT YOUR VEGGIES!!

                              Well I have to say, this lunch i steamed some brocolli and cauliflower and added a dab of butter and it was the best thing ive tasted all week.
