Great idea! And if you have any concerns about your menu, post a couple days worth on Review My Menu!

    Take care!

Re: I Had A Terrible Day!

Vegetables provide vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals and fiber. So they are healthful for our bodies.

The fiber supplements are just that---supplements to your regular diet. They typically don't contain vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals. Furthermore, you need to increase your water consumption when you use them because they work by absorbing water in your intestines, which causes them to swell and that bulk stimulates your intestines to move things along. If they don't have enough water to adequately swell, they can worsen or cause constipation.

Vegetables, however, contain a certain amount of water. From my own experience, I noticed after adding the 5 net carbs of veggies in my first week of OWL Phase, I had no need to use the fiber supplements.

The other thing is that Dr. Atkins says to eat a combination of fats/proteins/carbs for your meals. Eating vegetables (the fiber) helps to slow the digestion of the proteins and sugars you eat, thus increasing the impact of sugar on your body. Could you take a tablespoon or two of Metamucil and swallow a multivitam with every meal? Possibly, but that won't be a very enjoyable meal imo. Also there were concerns that too much fiber could block the absorption of certain minerals. And multivitamins are limited sources of vitamins and minerals because they contain set concentrations of these things. Eating a diet that is varied in nutrients increases the chance of eating the proper complement of these nutrients. By choosing the vegetables on the Induction foods list wisely, it's possible to get that nutrient complement because Dr. Atkins put alot of "nutrient powerhouse" veggies on those lists. Limiting the veg to lettuce, however, won't be very useful.
