Where can I buy liquid splenda?? Is liquid stevia just as good to use? I want to lower carb counts to my desserts, and am tired of using splenda packets! Ugh! Is there any other sweetener I can use to lower the carb counts to my recipes?

Re: liquid splenda/stevia
I use stevia, and it can be purchased as health food stores. It's a plant extract and it's marketed as a supplement, NOT a sweetener. But it is very sweet...1 or 2 drops equals the sweetness of a packet of splenda I believe. Stevia is calorie and carb free...and it doesn't effect me like splenda does (I have no cravings from it.)
Liquid splenda has less carbs because it's in liquid form...some of the carbs in granular splenda come from the stuff to make it a powder/granular/solid. I can't remember the name of the site, but there is a website online that sells liquid splenda like...once a month...someone with a better memory should be along to help you out...LOLSTART 8/16/06 @ 270+~MG1: 220-12/2/06~MG2: 210-1/07~MG3: 199-3/2/07~MG4: 190-4/27/07~MG5: 180-7/04/07~GOAL: 170

Re: liquid splenda/stevia
Thanks for the help! I'm still searching! I'll try the liquid Stevia in the meantime. Have you ever had a problem with it making you stall or slow your weight loss? And how would you measure a few drops for the rule of "use only 3 packets of splenda a day"? Is one drop equal to one packet of Splenda? How much are we allowed of liquid stevia?150.6/140/130

Re: liquid splenda/stevia
I have not had a problem with stevia, nor have I had any of the cravings associated with sweeteners. It does not stall me at all. I use it for only a couple things; I will put a few drops in my pumpkin, a few drops in chocolate mousse, or a few drops in my yogurt. I'm not sure how you would count stevia during induction actually--I don't think I ever used my sweetener allowments, except maybe rarely, and I would just count the 2 or 3 drops as one sweetener allotment...even though it's calorie/carb free--just so I wouldn't be taking advantage of this miraculous product and causing myself to go crazy with sweetened things.
One thing to be aware of...if you use too much stevia, sometimes it can leave an aftertaste...almost like anise. I don't notice it, but then again I don't use too much...I do notice a "different" sweetness than sugar or splenda, but I like it.START 8/16/06 @ 270+~MG1: 220-12/2/06~MG2: 210-1/07~MG3: 199-3/2/07~MG4: 190-4/27/07~MG5: 180-7/04/07~GOAL: 170

Re: liquid splenda/stevia
Like Julie is saying, Stevia is incredibly sweet. Also don't forget, your body can be tricked into responding to any sweetener as though it were sugar.

Re: liquid splenda/stevia
Stevia is good to sweeten things like coffee, tea, etc, but doesn't bake well.
I've used Stevia in the past years with no problem. It's also been used in Japan for many many years with no adverse effect.
The reason it's listed as a supplement here in the USA is because the FDA won't approve it yet for a sweetener due to lack of studies about it here in the U.S.. But, for some odd reason, lets it be sold as a supplement.
When I use Stevia in my herbal tea I've used powdered before. With powdered I have to use no more than the size of a sewing pin head. Too much Stevia will give you a bitter taste, epsecially in powdered. I've tried liquid, but to me it wasn't as sweet as the powdered. I didn't like it as well as I had to tend to use more just to get the same taste.
And in people that are sensitive, anything sweet artifically can cause a blood sugar spike, even something natural. Depends on your body.

What would your body do??? Crave sweets more? Or would your blood sugars raise? Or *gasp*gain weight???Originally posted by dotsamanthaLike Julie is saying, Stevia is incredibly sweet. Also don't forget, your body can be tricked into responding to any sweetener as though it were sugar.150.6/140/130

Re: liquid splenda/stevia
It would depend on your body as to what it would do, but there's always the risk of a blood sugar spike. I recall Dr. Atkin's mentioning something to that effect in his book also. Hopefully not weight gain. It may or may not cause you to crave sweets. I know it didn't me. Again, depends on your system.Originally posted by conquesoWhat would your body do??? Crave sweets more? Re: liquid splenda/stevia
It's a reaction called the Cephalic Insulin Response...although you're not actually consuming sugar, your brain thinks because you're tasting something sweet, it actually IS sugar...and releases insulin into your bloodstream, negating the effect of a non-sugar sweetener in the first place! Splenda does this to me...so I only use it for baking, etc. I use stevia for everything else.START 8/16/06 @ 270+~MG1: 220-12/2/06~MG2: 210-1/07~MG3: 199-3/2/07~MG4: 190-4/27/07~MG5: 180-7/04/07~GOAL: 170

Re: liquid splenda/stevia
In addition to what Julie said, when your body triggers the insulin in response to the non-sugar sweetener, the insulin goes to work on what glucose is in the blood stream and the result is LOW blood sugar. When your brain gets the signal of the low blood sugar, it triggers cravings for more sweetner. It's a VICIOUS form of self torture for some people. At any rate...I haven't had much luck with stevia. I always taste the bitterness of it. I do however like the liquid sucralose and you can get it at www.sweetzfree.com. They only sell 2 days a month, but they are a legit site and very easy to order from.
The 1 ounce bottle goes a LONG way. My mom carries hers in her purse and uses it for sweetening beverages. I use it when I'm making cheesecakes and such. It doesn't have the carbs that the powdered Splenda has (from maltodextrin) BUT you do still have to count each serving as 1 of your daily 3 allowance. Just because it has less carbs/0 carbs doesn't mean its a license to over indulge.~Joy

Re: liquid splenda/stevia
just for clarification, "Splenda" is the trademarked name (and patented for the manufacturing process) for the McNeil Nutritionals (Johnson & Johnson) brand of powdered sucralose. There is no liquid form of sucralose produced under the brand name "Splenda" by McNeil Nutritionals. All the liquid forms you see on the internet or ebay are incorrectly (misleadingly) calling themselves "Splenda", when in fact, they are not. It is sucralose in liquid form, it is just not "Splenda".

If you look at the site that Joy posted, it is called 'sweetzfree' they do not call the product splenda so they are not misleading anyone.Originally posted by LulubellAll the liquid forms you see on the internet or ebay are incorrectly (misleadingly) calling themselves "Splenda", when in fact, they are not.
