Hi there...I have just started Atkins and today, on day two, I am starving and cannot get a "full feeling" and it's making me crazy.
I had a mixed green salad with sharp cheddar cheese and ham slices. No dresssing. It was delicious and made a good lunch.
For a snack a bit ago, I had two eggs scrambled with Ricotta cheese - no salt - it was sooo sweet tasting and delicious!
Anyway, just wanted to know if others experience/d this?
Thank you!
REad the label on the ham you used. I've found hams to have anywhere from 2 grams of added sugar to 6 grams per 1 ounce serving.
Ricotta cheese, cottage cheese and other non-aged or 'fresh cheeses' are not allowed during Induction. They have a higher lactose content than the aged cheeses. Ricotta cheese on average has 2 net carbs per 2 tablespoons.
You didn't include what you had for breakfast and you didn't post what you had for your supper. Remember, you don't go more than 6 waking hours without eating something on this diet. And you should eat combinations of fats, protein and carbs. Loading your carbs (ie vegetables) into one or two meals can upset your bloods glucose/insulin levels.
My hardest part of the day is late afternoon when I want to SCREAM for carbs but instead I came home and a hot juicy steak is now cooking........I had a cheese stick to calm me down.
Here's what I've done today so far - is there anything on today's intake that looks "danger, danger,"......
Breakfast: two hard boiled eggs
Lunch: baby green salad, ham slice, diced sharp cheddar cheese (no dressing) - this tastes pretty good to me around noon
Snack: sharp cheddar cheese snack
Dinner: baby green salad w/ half avocado, 1/2 cup snap peas, fresh herbs from my indoor garden - topped w/ 1 teaspoon blue cheese dressing
approx. 8 ounces steak cooked w/ mushrooms and side of broccoli with butter.
I know I'll have a meltdown later for a snack so I have sugar free Jello made up in the frig......
Hi Abacus: Your comment about having a cheese stick to calm you down made me laugh out loud! Not quite the same as "I had a stiff drink to calm me down"....
I found the first week close to what I imagine **** would be like, but I did discover that half this battle is mental~~if you have a particular goal in mind, or you can focus on the trigger that made you start Atkins in the first place, that's a good place to start. Always refer to that when you start feeling like you're going to binge. "Why am I doing this?" It has to matter enough to you so you can pull yourself back and change your thought process. (Like calming yourself down with a cheese stick!).
One thing I do that I absolutely swear by is prep work....have your veggies cut, have a water bottle that holds at least a litre (or "quart" I guess for you Americans), stir fry up some chicken pieces or beef/pork, so it's something you can pop in your mouth like popcorn, cut your cheese up, etc. etc.
My mini-goal every day is to have that 2 litres of water in me before 7:00 p.m. It's like a challenge to myself. I also can't drink it cold, so making sure I have some available at room temp is part of my prep work. I don't know if you've read this or not, but they do say that it's 64 oz of water a day, plus an additional 8 oz for every 20 lbs you have to lose.
Stay strong! Come back here often~~there's nothing but support for you here.
Morning, Morning Glory!
Thanks for the great words of support! If you liked my cheese stick to calm me down, you'll appreciate my outburst yesterday when I yelled "Leave me alone, I'm in KETOSIS" and started laughing at myself for being ridiculous....and again, a cheese stick came to my rescue!
I am boiling up eggs to bring to lunch with me and keeping water handy - which is really helpful!
!). Anyway, on my third day TODAY I weighed myself and I'm DOWN TWO pounds! Not much but it's going the right direction! I
Not much? I disagree! 2 pounds is great. Try this, go to your fridge and pull out 2 pounds of butter. Hold that in your hand and think about it. That is how much fat you have lost off your body.
Great job Abacus, keep up the good work.

Thanks Grant! You are right - it's easy not to feel successful when there is so many more pounds to lose BUT I am in the right direction and need to acknowledge that!
I really so love these boards - everyone's support is so incredibly helpful....
Why are you having your salads with no dressing or just a teaspoon? You need the fat to help you feel full. In my opinion, hunger during induction means you should be eating more fat.
Why am I eating no dressing? Good question! I guess I have been programmed for LESS but you are right -- (I'm sitting at my work desk with salad greens, steak slices and cheese pieces but no dressing). Hmm, guess it's hard to think differently!
It's tough to shift out of the "fat is bad" and "low-cal is better" thinking when you first get started, especially if you were like me and had been trying to lose weight with that approach. But fat is a critical element for your success in this diet. The only reason I could think of to leave salad dressing off with this diet is if you hate it, but then you should be making up that fat with some other higher fat food.
One of the greatest things about this diet for me is that I lost weight WITHOUT feeling like I was starving myself to death. I've never skipped a meal (like the low-fat method seemed to require for me) and whenever I was hungry, I ate a high-fat snack if it was between meals. Yes, you will eat less fat as you progress on the diet, but in the beginning it is critical to eat enough fat to feel full.
Atkins is a HIGH-FAT diet, NOT high-protein. You should be getting 65% fat, 5% carbs, 30% protein from your daily food intake. Check out www.fitday.com and enter in a day's worth of food to see where you come out.
If you're not satisfied after a meal, you probably need more fat. Fat is our friend!!!
remember part of what makes this much easier to live by is that you should never have to feel hungry.. if you are find a low carb snack and feel better.....
congrats on your weightloss...rome wasn't built in a day ........
