  • ** ADVICE NEEDED!!!!!!!!! (please)**

    hehe.

So it's now my 13th day on induction Aiming to get to a healthy weight of 10 stone, 140 lbs for my 5.4 ft frame

I've weighed myself rather alot, which everyone seems to think is a bad idea on this board, starting at 12stone I've come down to 11.5? ish, it seems to fluctuate, how is this for progress concerning my relatively small weight loss goal of say around 30 lbs??? Argh? I mean will it take longer, if I have less to lose? and I know it sounds silly but I don't think i can feel a difference in my clothes however?

I'm cycling for 25-30 mins a day, working the abs and occasionaly running too?

Another problem, on friday I have to go to a dinner, and I'll be made to eat the desert its not something I can actually get out of its very formal? is this going to be terrible on my weight loss? Is it going to be a massive issue? as I've been trying sooo hard.

Any advice would be great xxx

    Hi LG,

The daily fluctuations in weight are perfectly normal and due to water. Happens to everyone.
You will not be "made" to eat a dessert. No one can make you eat anything you don't want to. Just don't eat it. What you put into your body is nobody else's business. Have a small meal before hand if you think you will give in to hunger. Make an excuse, tell them "No thanks, I'm full". If someone insists and gets pushy, get pushy back. I think it's incredibly rude for people to try to talk someone into eating something when that person is on a diet.
Yes, eating the dessert is a massive issue, it will probably knock you out of ketosis for a good 3-5 days, plus probably give you cravings and make things harder on yourself. Don't eat it, period, end of story.

      Hi Littlegem,

I would say that a 3rd of the weight you want to lose in 13 days is really good - well done

Your exercise sounds good. Worth joining a challenge around here in order to make a firm commitment so thatt you can see how you're doing and not give up if something crops up.

I'm with LambyPie on the dessert. Make sure that you aren't 'letting' people force you into doing something you actually want to do - I have definately been there done that and if I hadn't I probably be at goal by now. I went to a very formal meal and just ate whatever was put out. I wouldn't do that now because it messes stuff up. If you find it hard to say no just say you're diabetic, which in an ideal world you wouldn't have to - but people can be so awkward. I used to say that, now I just say 'I don't eat sugar', and then usually 'no, never'.

      Good luck with it all

Yeah i generally use the "sorry, im watching my blood sugar levels" or "Im diabetic sorry"

I just noticed i apologised in both of those for no apparent reason.

Dont eat the cake, you'll come out of ketosis and stop losing for about 3-5 days after, its really not worth it Have a lovely night though.

LOL I was going to ask her if she had any Canadian in her, we're notoriously apologetic as well.

I agree with what everyone else here has said, no one should ever force you to eat anything you don't want to eat. It's your body, and it's up to you what you eat, so i'd say skip the desert as well.

LOL MS! The weight fluctuations, although frustrating as heck, are completely normal. Good luck with your dinner and stay away from the desert! It's really not worth it!!

                    Re: ** ADVICE NEEDED!!!!!!!!! (please)**

                    Littlegem,

Although I have only started the Induction phase 5 days ago this time, I have practiced the Atkins diet several times before for a couple of decades sucessfully. My whole (birth) family is on it, not for weight loss but for an auto immune disease and high blood pressure.

I have found in the past that sometimes your body is resistant to letting the water go during the Induction phase, so your weight stays stubbornly the same in the beginning and then it lets go all at once in larger amounts. For me, it would be several pounds of loss over night after not losing a thing for a couple of weeks.

As far as the dinner you have to go to goes, before you go you can eat so that you are not tempted and then claim that you have a sick stomach but you will join them anyway and then drink water only, or you can claim that you have an allergy you are working on (you are allergic to the people who want to make you eat stuff not on your diet) or in my case I say that I am testing the effects of a pill, which I am, Hoodia, and I have a strict regimen I need to adhere to and there is a whole chat group that looks forwards to what I experience (which is also true for me). Sort of like body builders, guys in competition you'd have to kill before they'd ingested a forbidden carb.

Now if you find as I did, that my husband literally forced foods on me because he wanted me to make the same meals that he liked, then I ate one of those meals and then pretended to get sick (graphically and complaining regularly) and everytime he tried something like that again I'd remind him how bad I had felt before and he would learn to lay off and respect my food habits in time.

For some strange reason, people respect physical ailments but not psychological ones. You might not approve about lying to someone but it really is a white lie, you are not using them, you are just protecting yourself, and establishing your own boundaries - which is a very mentally healthy thing to do.

i cant say anything about the scale thing...i am an addict myself, and i weight myself all day...it is terrible...

about the desert though.....this is a commitment...you cant have "just one little taste"...a clean induction is the only way to go....if you are comitted, noone can make you put anything else in your mouth that you dont want there, unless you are using that or the situation as an excuse...sorry, i may seem harsh, though i dont intend to at all..honesty is just my strong suit.....

and if you are going to have this desert, what about the next one, and the next one? the whole point is to stop that vicious cycle....

i hope you come through it okay...like everyone here says, we know you can do it....

If someone offers me something I can't have I politely decline it, if they are then insistent I just say that I am doing Atkins and don't want to spoil it!

Be honest! It is your right to eat what you want! and if they can't respect that then they don't deserve your respect either!

                          Re: ** ADVICE NEEDED!!!!!!!!! (please)**

I'm curious why you would be "made" to eat the dessert. Is there something we don't know about or is it just the social pressure of the situation (which is what I think most of us are assuming)?

As far as explaining why you'd rather not eat it, I can understand making up a story that people will accept without hassling you but I've never had anyone give me a hard time if I just say something like "I wish I could, it looks so good, but I'm trying a low sugar diet right now".

For the very few people who will then try to get you to "take just one bite, one bite won't kill you!" I usually say something like "it's not the one bite that I'm worried about, it's the cravings afterword that I have to fight off for the next few days....but thank you anyway!".

That's exactly what I tell people when they tell me that one bit won't kill me. If they have never read the book, they don't understand the chemistry involved. And they are not the ones that have to deal with the crash later!!
