Great advice from everyone here - I am proud of you all
One thing not mentioned here is what I would do - contact the catering manager of the 'do' and tell him/her that you cant have sugar and ask them to supply something you can eat instead!! A nice cheese board selection would be one possibility, and even if they supply crackers with it you dont have to eat them!
I attended an (expensive) '10 course Edwardian banquet' in my first few weeks of induction and not only did the head waiter position himself nearby to tell me exactly which dishes would be suitable for us but they supplied a couple of extra 'legal' dishes for me and my husband too!
I must admit I did eat more vegetables than the 3 cups that evening but apart from that I was able to stick to the rules and ate only a few carbs over my 20 net carbs that day.
I had emailed the catering manager the week before hand and sent her the allowed list for induction so she and her chef could use their initiative and they accepted the 'challenge' and were pleased to help me stick to my 'diet'.
