  • all I want to eat are carbs!!

    I'm on day 11 of induction and down 6 pounds so far.

    seriously, right now all I feel like eating are carbs
    -wanted to eat the whole cake I made for my kids' carnival at school
    -wanted to eat the pizza they had for dinner
    -want to bake cookies just so I can eat all the dough
    -could really eat about 12 muffins
    -craving my whole row of thin mint girl scout cookies (18 per row)

    Will this go away? My mind is telling me that I would rather be heavy and happy than slim and crabby

    The nice thing is that you don't have to choose between heavy and happy or slim and crabby, you actually get to be happy AND slim at the same time!

    The cravings do go away almost entirely, one day soon you will watch some people eating a piece of pizza and realize that although you know it would be tasaty you don't really have to have it anymore. It's a great feeling let me tell you.

    When you feel those cravings try grabbing a nice high fat legal snack and drink some water, that always helped me.

    It really does just get easier and easier, so stick with it!

      How about thinking slim and happy vs. heavy and crabby? You know... a little self-hypnosis! And you will be slim and happy if you hang in there.

      A few hints:

      Keep a high fat snack with you at all times to help fight the cravings when they hit.
      Drink masses of water.
      Focus firmly on your goal and how you'll feel when you get there (awesome, believe me)
      Make sure you aren't eating any hidden sugars (check lables) or frankenfoods (like bars and shakes) which are causing cravings

        Thank you, thank you. I know you are both right. I think food made me happy and put me in a good mood. I even got in good moods just THINKING about what I would be eating during a particular day. I know that sounds sad. I do have a wonderful life, husband and kids. I need to find my happiness from other sources, not food. But Ohhh, I do love those sweets!!!

          No... it doesn't sound sad, it sounds familiar. I used to be exactly the same. But, believe me, it really does get easier. You'll find you focus more and more on the foods you can eat and the appeal of the carby things fades. Even when the odd craving does hit, it'll be more manageable.

          I think it's fine to find happiness in food, as well as other sources... and there are so many wonderful foods we can have on Atkins.
          Hang in there and you'll find your longings really do do an about turn.

            I Know exactly where you are coming from - I too have days where I get this incredible urge to just eat carbs - I am now coming to the end of week 4 and I promise it is getting easier - infact I rarely think about food now, and certainly don't spend allday planning my meals (as I did on WW) now I just grab something if I am hungry. A very good thing happened last night - I went for a meal with my best friend and our husbands - and I did not sruggle at all watching them eat their amazing sweets!

              krisanlove trust me, I was in the denial stage for the last 6 months. "I'd rather be able to eat what I want, be happy and to **** if I'm fat on top of that" well guess what that got me? TEN MORE POUNDS!! And I was NOT happy Even though after 3 weeks I still sometimes want cookies, enchiladas and blueberry muffins, I'm already feeling happier that I can put on clothes and not feel like I'm being cut in half by my waistband. Or that my shirts don't show every roll of fat under them.

              It's a hard road but we can DO THIS!!! And then we'll be slim, not craving lunatics, and HAPPY
