    Re: oz. question!!!

There was a great picture in one of the threads of what 1oz looks like. I think it was equivalent to 1 slice or 4 dice sitting next to each other.

Does anyone know where that pic is?

        Re: oz. question!!!

Dpends on the cheese, I guess. When I use shredded cheese, I look at the nutrition facts on the label to see what the serving size is. It is usually 1/4 cup or a 1/3 cup, depending on the type and brand. I measure it out in a measuring cup. The other kind of cheese I eat frequently are cheese sticks which come ten in a package and the weight is 10 ounces, therefore each stick is an ounce. When I use cream cheese, I go by the marks on the foil it is wrapped in to find ounces. Labels are your best bet. However, when you are cutting on a big block of cheese, you've just got to try "eyeballing" it as best as you can by using the number of servings in the package per the nutrition facts.

        Good Luck!

            Re: oz. question!!!

If you buy block cheese you can divide the block into how ever many ounces it weighs to see how big one ounce is.
So if the whole block weighs 8 ounces and you divide it into half then half again each piece would weigh 2 ounces.

BTW with pre-shredded cheese you need to look closely at the list of ingredients as some manufacturers coat the shreds with starch to keep the shreds from sticking together!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Elizellen, I just went to check the ingredients on my shredded cheese and what did I find? "Potato Starch and Powdered Cellulose Added To Prevent Caking"

I guess it just didn't occur to me to look at the ingredients on cheese. That will never happen to me again. Thanks for the heads up!

goodness me, it is CRAZY what they put in foods!

so, according to this discussion, I really think I'm overdoing it on cheese, but I don't know what else to eat to satisfy the odd hunger pang.

I use the very fine grating surface when grating my cheese so it makes a larger 'pile' and looks more!! LOL

Also I buy very strong tasting cheese like vintage cheddar so I get more taste for less volume. I find even one ounce of very finely grated sharp cheese makes quite an impact on my taste buds when used in an omelette.

I did find that eating my block cheese as snacks on induction swallowed up my allowance very quickly though, so I used to make the cheese 'crackers' instead. They take longer to eat an ounce of when compared with a one ounce chunk of cheese, which was only a couple of mouthfuls!!

Maybe thats why I seem to be having trouble with getting into ketosis(on day 12)..I eat lots of cheese, and its usually shreadded. I have been extra careful with measuring everything EXCEPT the cheese. I use it in my omelttes, on my 2 cup salad , and its one of my fav things to snack on :-(

Try measuring it to see how much you have been having before changing things. 4 ounces of shredded cheese is quite a large pile.
