  • What's Wrong with ME?!??!?!

    I just don't get it. At 394lbs I can't seem to get my act together. I start a program and then go off. I do good for a few weeks and then binge. I don't ever know which program to choose. Kimkins, Atkins, OA, WW, Jenny Craig. My mind never shuts up! I wake up each morning with a new determination not to pick up the carbos. I do great for breakfast and lunch, dinner or weekends are the pits!

    I don't understand why this has to be so hard. On Kimkins, it is all about lowcarb, low calorie, lowfat. I am looking for a lifestyle. AWOL. I need to do this for the rest of my life so it has to be something that fits me.

    How do u all get by with just 2 cups of salad type veggies and 1 cup of cooked?I guess ya just do it right? I need help. I need some advise. I need to stop looking for the magic diet. There is no easy way. I am afraid even on atkins that I will eat too much protein. Should I be aiming for a certain amount of calories a day. Eat until satisfied. What does that mean?!?!?!

    My on and off switch is broken!

    Starting weight this time is 389. I am not going to change my ticker, I am just going to lose the weight to match it!

    Consistancy is what will allow me to reach my weight loss goals.

    (((LINDA))) I hear you.. one day I said.. I have had enough.. I was having issues wiping myself after using the bathroom and at a conference I sat near this guy that was probably 500lbs and smelled horrible.. I said I am not going to be that way. I can't fit into chairs..I can't walk up stairs.. I don't want to die

    What I did was make a plan... I planned out my first two weeks.. Yes you eat lots of protein the first two weeks and that will help with the being hungry. You will be able to add more veggies..

    But I can assure you when you can have Bacon and Eggs for Breakfast you will be more satisfied then Fruity Pebbles cereal where you might eat a box.

    This is a great board to come too and we all will help support you and encourage you. I think and know once you make it through induction you will feel soooooooooo much better.

    You need to do this for yourself Believe me there are days that you might want to quit... But get on here..post... someone will try to reach out to you

      Theres nothing wrong with you...youre just human! This WOE is very hard for some people but once you get the hang of it...its really hard to stop.

      I dont know if you've every heard of Fitday or not but it can be your best friend!! It gives you all you %'s and I dont think theres a food out there that isnt on that site!

      Getting by with 2 cups of salad veggies and 1 other veggie is not so hard when you've got a big juicy steak to wash it down with...or hamburger patty with melted cheese, or chicken breast smothered with mushrooms and onions...there are endless possibilities! Protein is important on Atkins but you can over due it...thats why fitday is so great, it keeps track of it for you. Like today my fat % is low, so I know I need to eat more fat.

      Eating until youre satisfied means just that...dont gorge youreself...just eat until youre not hungry anymore. And you'll be amazed on how much of your appetite you lose after a few days...you'll be forcing yourself to eat.

      Atkins is great but its not for everyone. You really have to be in the right mindset ( this is my 5th time ). Just give it the two weeks and see how you feel! Good luck to you! Come here and read and post often for support!

        Just so you know you can eat all the meat you want in the first two weeks..but I promise you after the 1st you will start to eat less

          Thank you for your reply. I guess I am just so burned out on trying. But what is the alternative? Staying 394lbs?!?!?! Getting used to being miserable and being in physical pain?!?!??! I just don't buy it! I do not want to give up, I just feel so freaken fustrated. This is not my first hand at Atkins. Basically I am liar with the food, and I do not ever stick to anything long enough to make any real difference. I have done induction in the past for about 3 weeks only to run to the carbs once the brain chatter started. I want to save my life. I am going to be 49 this month. I have asthma, osteo arthritis in my knees and hips. I have high blood pressure, sleep apenea. I work full time and work very hard NOT to smell. My mother died from a stroke in 1993 at the young age of 56. That is only 7 years away from where I am today (sigh)....

          It is all mental ya know. I get a food thought, and then bam, I am off and running. I think, golly, just this one time won't hurt. But it does hurt, it sends me spiraling out of control. I get the F@#$ mentality and throw all my hard work away....I must find a way to not do that anymore.

            Linda...we've all been there and had the same issues with our weight and diets. Thats why I never use the word "diet" when I refer to Atkins. This is a life-style change. It's hard to break familiar habits. You aren't going to magically envelope this WOL without work, planning and dedication. Thats what is so wonderful about the support and encouragement you get here with others who are also making the necessary changes to live healthier and get fit.

            My advice is to re-read the DANDR. Use the program to write out your ROADMAP (Plan) to success. I visualize it as a roadmap to help me get from point A to point B. You have to write out what you need to do, when you'll do it and how. Be specific. Don't say you'l try to exercise...instead say "I will do 30 min of walking today and 10 min of situps (or whatever)". Then do it. Set a time on your schedule and make it happen. Within 1 month, it will become a habit. It will start to feel comfortable and you'll no longer have to MAKE yourself exercise, eat right, take supplements...etc. It will be a part of your life. You'll start to feel good and look better and shed inches and you will begin to feel in control of your emotions, your eating and your life.

            (Just like starting a new job or moving to a new location...it takes a while to adjust.)

            Being positive is one of the most important factors in losing the weight. Thats where the ADBB comes in. You really need to come here often, get involved with the people, and feel the love that is here. Having others who support you and encourage you and recognize your needs is one of the most important things that helps people succeed at anything in life. And for me, it was especially necessary for me to change my thinking about myself and losing weight. Give yourself positive imput and your actions will follow pursuit. You can do it. Believe in yourself, don't give up, we are all here for you!

              I understand.. I felt the same way this time.. I said what if I fail again... If you don't try you will never win the battle.. This board has truly been my saving grace this time.. Believe me they have talked me out of a lot of things.. They even made me throw my sugar free jelly beans away

              If you don't try..you are going to die.. I know what its like to push the next hundred pounds.. Mine was pushing 300 and yours is pushing 400...

              One quote that I have heard recently has really stuck with me.. "Live until you die" I wasn't truly living and I know you aren't either.

              Do you have the Atkins book? Come join us in the Second Time Around Club..in a week or so we are all going to re read our books.

              One thing that has helped me is that I plan.. I plan for everything.. I think of where I am going for the week and where and what I can eat.. I go over to Surry (the real country) a lot..they don't even have a fast food restaurant over there. So I have to plan a lot of things.. I am also know as Situation Sandy...lol Cause I swear I have something different going on..

              The most important thing..if you think you are going to cheat.. ask yourself why.. If you do...get right back on track... I had popcorn last night at the movies.. Why? Cause I didn't have time to get food before I went..I didn't plan... My next meal was legal.. I could have said.. Heck with it I am eating my daughter's Mike n Ike candies..but I didn't.. or her Peach rings.. I went to Golden Corral after that. I could have pigged out on all the yummy desserts they had...but I didn't.. I had Beef...and veggies..

              You can do this.. You have to want to be thinner more then you want something junky!

                  Dear Linda,

                  Your story touched me, very much, so I am going to tell you a bit about me that might also help you.

                  After my motorcycle accident I was unable to go to the gym and I gained weight, not a great deal, about 30 pounds but I have a really small frame even for a female. Try as I could I just could not lose those 30 pounds. I tried every type of diet but I was also suffering from PTSD Post Traumatic Distress Syndrom, the car hit my bike and totalled the bike. I hit the pavement but recovered with soft tissue injuries only.

                  Insurance company paid for my rehab including the mental one for PTSD. One of the treatments I got was EMDR. Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing. It is a fancy name for something very simple. The technique is simply doing something such as eye movement from one side of your body to the other, or tapping one knee and then the other, or listening to sound in one ear and then the other. This technique can be learned in 2 treatments, it allows you to control your emotions. That is how it gets rid of PTSD. It was used on the Vietnam Vets and the victims at the base of the twin towers in 9/11. Very effective, very fast. It allows you to control your emotions.

                  Back to the diet. As I was having difficulty with staying on any diet more than 2 days I decided to use EMDR to stay on my diet. So I visualized (thought) about me staying on the diet, one day at a time. I played my EMDR music, cound of click in one ear than the other, and saw myself adhering to the diet. EMDR "processes" your thoughts, great athletes visualize each movement in this way before an important competition. It is almost like hypnosis except you know exactly what you are thinking and you are in control of what you are thinking about all the time.

                  After one EMDR session with my iPod for 30 minutes I stayed on the diet. I knew that if I was ever tempted to cheat, I'd simply play my music again and visualize myself adhering to the diet and I would have the emotional stength to do so...anytime....anywhere. I never had to do it again. And I never cheated on my diet since I started this diet on April 18th of this year.

                  If you are really having trouble staying on a diet I suggest you try this. It is also terrific if you need to get rid of any sad emotions of any kind, that is the original purpose of EMDR... to put you in control of your emotions, thoughts and actions. Using EMDR to stay on a diet is similar to taking a ten ton pickup truck to carry a library book.

                    If eating only three cups of veggies is hard for you, during induction... then I'd say move to OWL straight after your first two weeks. You can increase your veggies and stay at rung one for a good long time, if you like. Also, many people actually lose more on rung one than they did on induction.
                    Ditto what the others have said too.

                      You have been given great advice already, Linda so i just wanted to say something about the small 'ration' of vegetables on induction.
                      When you choose your vegetables make sure you dont choose lettuce, but some of the more tasty ones like red peppers, mushrooms and jicama, to make your meals more interesting.
                      Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

                        Your story will touch many on this board and I welcome your honesty with your situation. We don't "know" you personally but I think you will have many friends here so my main recommendation to you is to stay with this board and learn as much as you can. The fact that you have started the engine but it keeps stalling is irrelevant. You still want to turn that engine over. My personal thoughts are "don't flood the engine" with too much worry about Kimkins or M&E or any of the "tweaking" stuff that us longtimers get in to. I would read, re-read and re-read the basics of DANDR and apply those recommendations on a moment by moment basis as much as you can.
                        For your current stats. I don't think you should worry too much about a cup here or there of veggies or salad. Some may be more "by the book" than me on this but I believe that overeating on the stuff that DrA recommended even on induction is OKAY (its much better than eating a load of donuts and rubbish) - overeating on this stuff with your stats will not harm you but it might very well help with controlling your appetite and cravings. Then as you begin to see a change you can adjust accordingly.
                        You are at a crossroads, you can do this and ADBB can help you.

                            Thank you so much! I really feel so welcomed here. I will start the Atkins Induction first thing tomorrow morning. I will come to this board and share my journey. I will remain accountable by checking in at least once a day and posting how I am doing as well as contribute however small to the boards.

                            Silly how I can use/find reasons to not do this program over some veggies huh.

                              There is a procedure conducted by a psychologist to introduce you to EMDR. It is a form of psychological therapy.

                              If you are interested in a trial of the music try googling: download free mp3 music Relaxation - By Intuition BioLateral CD#1 ... thr biolateral part means that both sides of your brain is addressed. Our emotions are in one part our logic is in the other. Biolateral things such as listening in one ear then in the other allow us to tap both sides of our brain and that is how we can logically control our emotions. You need stero headphones to listen to this music effectively.

                              CDs by David Grant, such as "Calm and Confident", "Inner Mirror", "Best of Biolateral" are avaiable either through the internet or from an EMDR praticing psychologist.
