  • Olives and Olive Oil

    Hello,

I have not started the Diet yet, as I have not read the book. The book is on order, and I'll have read it by the middle of next week.

I am thinking about what I have to stop eating, and practically what I can eat instead.

Sweets (Candy) and chocolate is obviously a no-no, so what can I eat instead.

I have thought that I can swap chocolate and sweets for olives.

On the Atkins website it says the olive oil is allowed, but here is my question:

    Can I eat Olives?

If No, then how bad are they to eat?

If defiantly No, then can you give me any better suggestions?

If Yes, then have made me happy, and given me a solution to a problem.

    Many thanks in advance.
    Hayden.

Olives are mentioned in the 'special foods' category on the allowed list of induction foods. Take note of the last paragraph though!
      Special Category Foods
To add variety, each day you can also eat ten to twenty olives, half a small avocado, one ounce of sour cream or three ounces of unsweetened heavy cream, as well as two to three tablespoons of lemon juice or lime juice.
But be aware that these foods occasionally slow down weight loss in some people, and may need to be avoided in the first two weeks. If you seem to be losing slowly, moderate your intake of these foods.
BTW the bare bones of the rules of induction and allowed foods are listed in the FAQ forum on ADBB along with several other useful topics, so you could do some research there while waiting for your book to arrive.

Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Like Elizellen said, olives are allowed, but I find them so moreish, be careful you don't have too many!

Also, I cooked a load of chicken drumsticks and put them in the fridge, that way I've always got something low carb/high protein to eat.

Black olives have more carbs then the green olives but if you counted the carbs and kept your amount of olives eaten small I don't think they would be a problem.
I would eat them but I am not fond of the black ones.
