  • 10 days down and now I start over

I messed up and now have to start all the way over when I only had a few more days of induction to go. I had to buy the kids snacks for their lunches last night. I was so tired that I left them on the counter to put away this morning. I always put them in the back of the pantry. This morning they didn't make it. Ketosis has to be shot by now and I feel sick. Nauseous, headache, tired etc. All I want to do is reach into my stomach and just pull all that crap out. I need to take a nap *sighs* I could really use some support right now

Way to go for realizing that your body just doesn't need that "junk" anymore. So you messed up... but now you're starting over!!! It takes time to adjust to this. I just started (almost 2 weeks ago) and I'm learning as I go. Just pick yourself back up and start with a clean meal.. (don't wait until tomorrow- start now!!!). You CAN do this... Take a nap if you need to, then wake up and start back on your clean way of eating!

When those cravings come for "junk food" in the future... remind yourself of the feeling afterwards... it is sooo not worth it!

Here is to a new day and much success!!!

Looking forward to meeting the "new" me ....
(I'm going to get there by following this new way of eating.... Making changes for the better!)

I am sorry for your stumble but I am wondering how one slip up could ruin 10 days of hard work. I couldn't imagine that you threw it all away. I think you should keep in mind all of your effort you put into the 10 days and continue on. You may need to start your count down over but you will be in ketosis in no time. Now you see how damaging and addictive that crap food is and maybe you just needed a little reminder of how it makes you feel. My suggestion would be to find a great low carb recipe and make it. This is a great site

Re: 10 days down and now I start over

You dont have to start recounting your 14 days again!! (This is an error many new Atkineers fall into, so you are not alone in thinking it )

If some of us had done that we would never have got off induction!!

Just carry on eating to plan and counting your days till day 14 then weigh and look at the chart in DANDR to see what kind of resistance your body has to weightloss and decide whether to move straight to OWL or extend your induction for a while longer.

Your weightloss in those 14 days might not be as much as it could have been, but you cant redo an initial induction as you have already lost the 'water weight' and are now into fatburning mode anyway.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

All the threads and the bootcamp faq's say a clean induction is super important before moving to OWL, does that mean I have to start my days over? Or does it just mean add two more weeks of induction?

Actually being bored was a problem. I completely broke my food budget and hadn't gotten my final check from my last job so I was running out of veggies and stressed out. I will pick up a bunch of frozen veggies during my next shopping trip.

I agree with the poster a bit above that says just to continue like you are in your 14 days of induction. So what 4 more to go? We all fall here and there. What is really important is that we get right back up and back on course. We are only human.

No, you don't have to go back completely 14 days. Usually a 3-4 days of a clean induction (or where you left off for those who are past Induction and are reading this), and you're body will have used up the "extra" stuff you've added in.

However, it's very crucial that you move into the thinking that you are worthy of making the changes in your eating positive, keep exercising, drinking your water, and remembering that when dealing with emotional or habititual eating...we all fall, but it's how we get up and move along that makes the difference. You have to keep going don't let the habits or emotions rule over your food choices

                Cheers!

I have one question. Why are you feeding your children those unhealthy snacks? I know they are going to complain if you take them away but it would be so much better for their health if they were eating more like you. Obesity in children is an epidemic. Help them to eat healthier too

Because they already eat extremely healthy lunches and I feel a few treats in their school lunches are perfectly fine. They only get the treats if they eat the other stuff too, which is important incentive since my son is so small due to his medication.

I am still having a hard time today but I am taking everyones advice. I was shocked this morning to see my weight was the same this morning. Well, shocked and relieved. The next few days are going to be tough as I can't go shopping and am out of veggies with the exception of mushrooms. God, I can't wait till payday. I think the kids are about to go on a chicken and rice revolt.

Re: 10 days down and now I start over

You cannot put children on a diet just because you are. For one thing your kids will complain and be embarrassed to bring in carrot sticks, ect. when other kids are bringing in snack packs.. ect. I agree, obesity in children IS and epidemic but I also think the cure to that is more outdoor exercise or playing. These days my kids come home from school and immediately change clothes and go outside to play. Its almost a requirement. They usually only watch t.v. when they are sick, or its raining out. What you give kids for snacks at home is one thing.. go healthy as much as possible. but leave the woman alone for packing snacks for her kids that are popular. As long as they are active it really isn't such a big deal what they eat while they are at school.

As far as slipping up, don't feel like you have to start over. If I were you I'd just reduce the carbs you eat over the next few days and beef up the exercise. You can do it. Its hard I know right now I'm sick and would just love something gooey, and breadlike.. because that is what I use to eat. Its gotten so bad i have nightmares about eating the "bad foods". I live in fear of screwing up. I know it will happen but I won't start over afterward. Just stick with it and soon you'll be seeing the results!

I totally agree. When we moved to this neighborhood I didn't realise their were other kids for about a month. NONE of them play outside anymore!!! It's insane. Even before my sons meds he was small, they play all the dang time. The run, roller blade, bring bugs home just like I did as a kid and I have to fight to get enough food in them. Meanwhile the chubby kids are on play dates and playing video games. Now, my son would live on his gameboy if I let him. I have just caught him smuggling the thing outside and playing gamboy while rollerblading... it's histerical. But kids that are healthy and slim and play naturally regulate their weight.

As for me, I was slim even on a high carb diet until... I stopped playing. The minute I got a sit down job and stopped dancing and riding my bicycle, I put on 15 pounds. Then depression put on the rest. I lost my ability to naturally regulate and now I need Atkins to fix what I messed up. I am of the thinking that once you mess up the natural regulation it's perminant hense the diet has to be a WOL.
