  • Fat?

I tracked on fitday from the 24th until today. My fat % has been between 70-78%. I feel terrific. Is there any reason it can't be that high? I pretty much hate chicken and pork unless it is a brat or sausage so I couldn't see too many leaner protein option. Besides I really love fat like on a steak etc.
Oh in case it would matter my cholestrol profile is perfect and blood pressure 90/58

Could you please post a sample menu.
I don't see any problem with 70% of you calories from fat.
Atkins has a fat fast for people especially stuck in plateau.
I would love to see what a 70% fat diet looks like as my only reference is the DANDR.

                Couple of things....

                1. Wine is NOT a part of the Atkins Induction Plan.
                2. Heavy cream and sour cream is listed in the "Special Foods" category on the Induction Acceptable Foods list: "one ounce of sour cream OR 3 ounces of heavy cream". One ounce of sour cream is about 2 tablespoons (measured using a standard cooking measuring spoon.) And the Special Category foods are in that special category because they have been known to derail weight loss for some people.

The thing about fat is this: it has 2 times the calories of carbs or protein. During Atkins we don't count calories, but they do matter. The metabolic advantage of Atkins only works if you go over your daily caloric needs by a couple hundred calories (about 2 tablespoons of salad dressing or mayonnaise). If you eat more, your weight loss might be affected. As we progress through Atkins, our fat percentage decreases as we add carbs. By the time we reach Maintanance phase, fat will be about 50% of our total calories.

Also during any phase we only eat the amount of food that satisfies our hunger for that meal. So there will come a point when you have to ask yourself, do I really need to eat 3 burger patties in order to satisfy my hunger or is my hunger satisfied after eating 1 or 1 1/2?

                  Re: Fat?

Yep I know that glass of wine wasn't on induction. I fully 100% admit it. It was a special date in a nice restaurant and I decided to have it even if it was a week early.

I thankfully have not had a problem in the past in the special foods categories. Knock on wood that holds true. I think a 5 lb loss is a week says it may be ok.

Average calories for a week (what satisfies hunger also) averaged out to 1582 as a weekly average. I think that looks in line doesn't it? Considering I walk a few miles a day.

As far as the 3 burger patties~ yep I was really hungry. Yesterdays calories fell in at 1389 with the 3 small patties. I could easily have ate more. I was absolutely ravenous at 1 am again to the point where it prevented sleep.

I'm sure eventually as I get to add more carbs back in your 100% right that the fat will go right down.

Thanks for the info Megs and congrats on all your success!

Why does mine look over or under? I thought it was 20 after subtracting fiber

I have atkins 72 and one other one. I guess I need 92.

I think it worked out ok though last week.

It says "Eat nor more than 20 grams a day or carbohydrate, most of which must come in the form of salad greens and other vegetables." So, the majority of your daily carbs should come from vegetables. So if you are averaging 10 net carbs daily, at least 6 of those carbs should be vegetable net carbs--not egg, cream, cheese, or sweetener carbs.

We use the 2002 edition of the Diet here on ADBB. The 1972 version has some minor differences. If you use it, use it and don't mix 2002 or 1992 information with it. And if you use it, be sure to state that in your posts.

According to the 1972 version, sausages and other meat products with fillers aren't allowed on the plan. You should be eating two 1-cup green salads a day and heavy cream is limited to 4 teaspoons daily.

Nope I am not trying to do 72. I thought I was trying to do the version your all are doing. The 2 books I have are 72 and 1992. I don't have 2002 yet. I hope I'm not comming across as difficult. I sure don't mean to be I'm just getting really confused.

I've hit 20 grams of carbs every day after subtracting fiber. So 25 carbs minus 5 fiber = 20 right? I did count every carb of every morsel.

Ok lets see if I have this straight because I'm all for being able to eat more veggies any day.

I don't need to count the carbs in eggs? I only count veggie carbs (since thats the only carbs I can eat so far? If so yippee I get more!

                              I really appreciate the help.

I'll look tomorrow for the 2002 version at the library.
