If you follow the recipe in the thread Elizellen linked, it nixes the sweetener and uses a bit of onion or garlic powder---that kills the eggy smell and saves you on a sweetener carb.
I didn't use the sweetner in the first place. I HATE the taste of sweet bread with savory foods, Never understood why they put suagr/HFCS in bread. Besides the little bit the yeast needs, it's ridiculous. Guess it's just another way to get us all addicted to sugar *shrug*

You're right, lots of recipes can be improved I think by omitting or lessening any sweetener.

Really? Well it's still gross. I go our of my way to find my husband whole grain bread that uses honey or mollasses and only as one of the last ingredients on the list. Mom used to make homemade bread and she'd only use a little sugar or honey in the beginning to let the yeast wake up. I guess that's why we refrigerated our bread wrapped in saran wrap.
