Re: Soy
Soy: soy is a legume and according to Induction Rule # 4 in Chapter 11, "Foods that combine proteina nd carbohydrates, such as chickpeas, kidney beans and other legumes are not permitted at this time." So soy is not allowed during Induction phase per the Induction rules, whether it's ground up soybeans (soy flour), soybeans ground into a fine paste (soy "butter"), fresh soybeans (edamame), dried roasted/fried soybeans (soy nuts).
The only soy product that is acceptable is tofu according to the Cheese footnote.
The Atkins products---There were two sides to the Atkins empire: the medical clinic and the business. The business was initially the books. That was expanded to include vitamin supplements. Eventually that was expanded further to include low carb food products. When Atkins was really big a few years ago, Atkins Nutritionals was selling everything from the bars and shakes to muffins, fudge, cheesecakes, etc. They said these products were to make the diet "easier" to do. In reality, it only had the "Snackwell" effect---that is people ate this stuff, thinking it would help promote or not endanger their weight loss, and they didn't lose weight or they didn't lose weight as easily.
The company ended up down-sizing the products, removing many things, including the vitamin supplements. But they still published books that promoted the company products.
If you want to eat WASA rye crackers or Oatmeal for Induction, like the website says you can, it's up to you. But just know that in the collective experience of ADBB, we have found that following the Rules in the book optimizes weight loss.
