  • Want to Begin Induction, But Need HELP!!

    Hey All,

    HELP!!!

I am new to the board and want to get started on the 14-day Induction. (I followed the Atkins Diet once before - several years ago - and did remarkably well (25 pounds in 6 weeks.)) Truly, I ended up losing too much weight and became a 5'7" size 4 (way too skinny!!!) So, in an effort to put SOME weight back on, I did not follow the OWL and Maintenance phases of the diet, and put ALL of the weight back on, plus plenty.

This time around, my problem is that I just can't seem to get started. My habit over the past couple of years has been to skip breakfast and lunch, drinking only coffee and water until I get off of work - around 3 pm. Then, of course, I eat just about anything that doesn't eat me first....

Does anyone know of some really easy breakfast items that I can either prepare the night before, or that don't have to be cooked at all, so I can just grab and go. (We have a microwave at the office, so that helps.)

One more thing... I've been wanting to get back to the gym, but just don't have the energy yet - - I'm sure it's because of all the heavy carbs I eat late in the day and my sluggish metabolism during the day.

Any advice and breakfast ideas you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!!!

Re: Want to Begin Induction, But Need HELP!!

Hi and welcome! I really hope you make the decision to go back on Atkins. It worked so well for you and I'm sure it will work again.

I am in your boat on the fast breakfast thing. For me, I hardboiled about eight eggs the night before I started induction. For breakfast I've been having two eggs and tomato slices (also cut up the night before) Just bag them together in little packages of two eggs and three slices and you can grab and run. I also take some string cheese for a snack but so far I haven't gotten hungry enough to eat the snack before lunch. Good luck and I hope to hear that you started soon.
    Tim

Re: Want to Begin Induction, But Need HELP!!

I make a large crustless quiche once a week which does me for 6 satisfying breakfast slices!
My recipe for this is in the Recipes database - link in my signature or click on the link at the top of every forum page.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I do a hard boiled egg and a piece of string cheese. Or the quiche.

I'm not a breakfast snob ... I'll eat dinner leftovers or a slice of cheese with some ham or turkey or hard boiled eggs or egg salad and celery.

Love quiche for breakfast too! I made this one, QUICHE
this week and love love love it. Never had a quiche with sausage in it before, it makes it nice and "breakfastie". You can give it a slight zap in the microwave, wrap it in a napkin and you're good to go.

I usually hard boil eggs in advance and warm up some turkey sausage to go with it, or grab some turkey and cheese. Chicken salad or celery and cream cheese is also a satisfying start.

I am so initmidated by the quiche but I know I really should attempt to make it. I love Elizellen's idea of making it ahead. I'm all about easy morning because mornings are never easy for me anyway.

I was the same way about eating breakfast. When I started atkins I had to find something quick and easy. My favorite thing to make is Pumpkin Treat.

1/2 cup pure pumpkin (I used Libby's canned pumpkin), 1 ounce cream cheese, pinch of cinnamon, and a packet of splenda. Heat in microwave and enjoy. It's delicious!

If you added an egg to this and whipped it a little, would it turn out like a pumpkin "mock danish" ya think?

You might have invented a new favourite there, Bettestress

Maybe reserve a little of the pumpkin and spoon it on top after cooking to look pretty?

I made it, and tasted pretty good! Takes one more pck of Spenda though.
I even added the little pumpkin rosebud on top like you suggested.. hah
