  • When to weigh?

I have a question... when I decided to try atkins (again) I had just finished my last "good" meal of spagetti & meatballs with bread dripping in butter (yummy) and after my husband and I finished and we sat our big butts on the couch we looked at eachother and said "we've got to stop this madness!" and so we made the decision to start right away. What we then did was take our weight and we took our measurements and wrote them down on a piece of paper (this was in the evening). One week into induction (today) I weighed myself again but this time I weighed in the morning before eating and I was down nine pounds.

My question is ... is this legit weight loss or can a person's weight fluctuate that much in one week. I guess I should've weighed myself the following morning when I started rather than the night before. People weigh more at night than in the morning huh? I'm sorry y'all, it's a stupid question I know, and I feel like I'm sort of "cheating". Haven't checked the measurements again yet. I find it easier to stay away from the tape measure than the scale! Hubby has lost 10 lbs.!

I know people say not to weigh every day/week or whatever but when I do stall in my weight loss, it'll just make me work harder. The numbers on the scale won't make me give up, just more determined!

    Re: When to weigh?

Take it from someone that weighs a few times a day (it keeps me on track but that's just me) I weigh 3 to 4 pounds heavier at night then in the morning. I start gaining as soon as I have breakfast. So I take my official weight in the morning right after I pee. But I think as long as you weigh at the same time every time, that should be fine.

Oh yeah, one more thing ... not along the same lines though, completely different question. What's up with the constipation and how can I change that? I feel like I could lose 5 lbs. if I could just go to the bathroom!!!!! And yes, I'm drinking my water! Should I start taking fiber pills or something?

How much veg are you eating, and what veg? Eating your full quota of veg and choosing high fibre options is the best protection against constipation.

I eat mostly salad and brocolli. I already had a salad today and I'm having brocolli with dinner. I think I have IBS anyway, it just seems atkins has made it worse.

Try adding a little bit of flax meal to one of your food choices. Or, when I'm constipated, I mix a pat of butter, flax meal and a little heavy cream and put it in the microwave for about 45 sec.

If that doesn't work, I would say taking some fiber supplements.

              Re: When to weigh?

It always makes a difference what time of day you weigh in (and what time of month for females). That's why you need to pick a day & time, and stick with it, just so that you have a reference point.

However, 9 pounds is not just a morning/evening fluxuation, you have lost some major weight this week! Congratulations!!! The more you see the scale move, the less you'll see spaghetti and bread as your last "good meal", because this will be what you really wanna stick to!
