  • Already Sabotoged!? Bye-bye Clean Induction

I was SO exited on my first 3 days of induction. I was determined to be by the book. I've got LOTS of weight to lose (~150 pounds). Now on day 4, I decided to track my progress on www.fitday.com. As I started entering my foods, I started to gasp! I can't believe how wrong my estimates have been. Main culprits?

Broccoli, Kale, Salad Dressing (Portion sizes of veggies were bad)
    Sugar-free cough drops (I have a terrible cough, and I teach 4 choirs/week).
    Even Splenda!!

Day 1=27 net carbs, Day 2=33 nc, Day 3=24 nc

The good news, I'm still in moderate ketosis since day 3. I'm eating WAY less carbs and calories than I was pre-induction, I still believe in the Atkins way, and I've even managed to lose a few pounds.

The bad news, starting out with a bad cold has made my "induction flu" even worse, (pounding headache, achy muscles), so I still need to use the sugar-free cough drops for my raw throat.

So I guess now I have to consider myself on day 1 all over again?

Don't punish yourself too much, it could have been far worse.
It's best to always measure everything to be honest with you.
    I use fitday religiously.
Keep at it, now you have realised where you are going wrong, you will be fabulous.
And a bit longer on induction wont do you any harm.

I don't envy you having a cold and Atkins Flu
Just keep downing your water, it will help both!!

Don't worry about it too much. The most important thing is that you were and are eating the RIGHT foods. You are still detoxing and getting your cravings under control. Many folks here who are in maintenance will tell you they can eat more carbs if they are from veggies.

No - just carry on counting for your 14 days and then see how much weight you have lost to find out what sort of metabolic resistance to weightloss you have.
If you restart your 14 days the weightloss from the next 2 weeks wont include any initial weight lost already and may will skew the numbers when you look up the chart in DANDR, leading you to think you are more resistant then you actually are.
So if you have already done 3 days on induction today is still your fourth day.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Thanks everyone. I'm so tempted to weigh today, but I said I'd take it easy and do it every other day. I'm measuring everything now, and even customizing my foods on fit day so they better reflect the brands I'm using! Who-hoo, McDonald's grilled chicken ceasar salad!!! I'm Loving It!!!

You should watch the amount of sugar in fast food salad's . I used to work at McDonalds and we had a whole class on how most the salads had more sugar in them than the big macs with the bun and sauce and everything. so check those out online somewhere- not sure about the whole thing- didnt really pay attention to it at the time so just a side note of what i have heard.

                  Good suggestion, alexis
Here is the McD's bagameal site where you can choose exactly which parts of their dishes you want to eat to check carbs etc. So select the menu item then click on the link to see detailed nutrition info for the meat and the salad, dressings, etc separately

When I first read your post, it made me think about how some others have been confused by the fitday numbers because the fiber isn't automatically subtracted. Check and see if that isn't your problem. You may be right on target and have nothing to worry about.

Thanks for all the imput, guys. Yeah, I've been really hyper vigilant about the McDonald's ceasar salad. All that's in it is lettuce, parmesan cheese, grilled chicken, (& carrots & tomatoes but I pick those out.) I also leave off the croutons and I only eat 2/3 of the Ceasar dressing. So I'm good. The salad is a good 2 cups if not more, so I eat it in two mini-meals. And yes I did figure out the carbs-fiber on Fitday. I'm doing what (Mitzimarie, I think) told me. She goes to a future blank day, then adds all the ingredients in a dish that she prepares, copies down the nutrients, then opens a custom food, plugs in all the values, then....voila. No more typing in individual ingredients over and over. Big time saver! Well, it looks like I'm gonna stay on induction a bit longer. I really want to do 2 completely clean 20 carbs/day and see what happens.
