  • 15lbs ok for the 2 week induction period?

Hello everyone. I am new to this board so will have plenty of questions Im sure so I thank you all in advance for any help you may give...
I just started Atkins (again for the second time, did it about 2 yrs ago and lost 40 lbs in 4 months)

This time I started exactly 2 weeks ago today, and this morning my scales read 220, down from the 235 I was 2 weeks ago. Is that about the average loss in 2 weeks? I have to admit I go a little crazy with everything I do. I di not eat the recommended 20 carbs a day, but keep it under 5 instead, and i do not do induction for only 2 weeks, I do it for about 3 months. I guess thats the "need ot see immediate and quick success" side of me.
I have not started exercising yet even though I just bought a new Eliptical machine. I want to wait a month or so until the weight loss slows down a little bit, and then I will start to speed up the loss faster.
My start weight was 235 like I said, and I will/want to be down to 190 by end of June.
I wish I knew about this site the first time I did it a few yrs ago. You are all great and very supportive. Very best wishes to all of you on your goals. It is great to have a place to to read others successes and share recipes/ideas etc...

      Hey Mike,

First of all, congrats on the 15 lbs gone already. That's a very good number for the first 2 weeks, especially since you're not doing any exercise just yet.

I will say though, that it's not good to go so low on the carb count. You do need some. From that number, I'd say you are probably not doing any vegetables, which means you're not getting any fiber and nutrients from them as well. They are really an important part of the Atkins program, and they aren't going to keep you from losing weight.

I'm in pretty much the same boat as you. I just restarted a week ago today, and am down 10 lbs as of this morning. I know that number will probably be my biggest 1 week number on the program, and that's fine. Our weights and goals are pretty close to the same as well.

Again, congrats and much luck to you!

I agree with Commited - Well done, but move on.

Eat up your veg, and there is NO reason at ALL for you to stay on induction. Move on, eat even more veg and look after your body properly. It will do you a lot more favours to learn how to eat, as you will do on OWL while you continue to lose weight, than to overly restrict yourself, even if (and its a big if) it means you lose faster.

You want to lose 30 more pounds. Is it better to lose it for good or to lose it fast in order to meet some deadline or win some "fast weight-loss race" that is only in your head?

You know how to lose it already, so staying on induction will teach you nothing more. But do you know how to keep it off permanently while eating the well balanced and healthy diet that is exactly right for your body and your life? That's what you'll learn on OWL and, eventually, pre-maintenance.

i agree with Kate. If your goal is to lose weight, without giving any thought about learning how to keep that weight off, then you might as well go the the Second Time Around Club Forum on the board and introduce yourself now, because once you regain your lost weight you'll be a STAC member.

That's awesome and truly inspiring. Reading success stories of others really keeps me going. WOW!!!

***Just to add a little DANDR 2002 Edition Info:
You should be getting about 65% of your calories from fat, 30% from protein and 5% from carbohydrate-(as already stated above ). Try plugging in your food at Fitday.com. This really helps keep track of your food intake and as everyone else says--the veggies are very important. You should get 12-15 grams of Net Carbs per day from your vegetables. Your body needs them and it teaches you how to make this a Way Of Life--(otherwise, you'll end up gaining it all back(+ some) . This link is helpful also:

Re: 15lbs ok for the 2 week induction period?

THanks for the advice all. Like i said, I didnt know about any help websites the first time I did it so I just assumed the diet meant eat as few carbs as possible. So being very strict w/ myself and not being one to cheat on anything, I just decided to have 0-5 a day. That way I stayed way under what was allowed. Because it worked so well the first time, I decided to do the same thing this time around. Now that I discovered this website, it will help me learn to do things the real correct way.
              I appreciate the advice.

                Good choices there Mike!

I don't know if you have the book or not, but this site pretty much goes by the 2002 version of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, more commonly mentioned here as "DANDR". If you don't have it, there is a lot of good information to be gleamed from it. And, of course, there are a ton (pun intended) of folks on this site than can answer pretty much any question that you might have.

Again, best of luck on your journey.
