Just wondering how many ozs of meat is everyone eating throughout the day.

I am eating 8 oz of meat and 9 oz of fish. I was going by the example given in Dr. A's book.

I think I need to be increasing my fat intake and cutting down to 6 ozs for my protein at each sitting.

Looking forward to hearing what others are doing on this.

    Thanks.

    Re: Meat

If you look at the recipes in the back of the book, the meat servings per person is 4-8 ounces. But the real measure of how much you should eat is your appetite. If you are satisfied in eating 4 ounces, then that's all you eat. If it takes 8 ounces to satisfy you, then eat 8 ounces. Just keep in mind that Atkins is a high fat diet, not a high protein one.

Don't be afraid of feeling hungry...one of the side effects of ketosis/lipolysis is appetite suppression.

Our protein intake should only be at 30% and I always go over that.

But it says to not intake more than 30% of protein. So how would you track down your protein then.

What is your fat and carb intake like?

Just to clarify for others who might be reading this thread. It's 30% of our total daily calorie intake. Fats at about 65% and carbs about 5%

Its rougly in the 50% total for the day.

My fat is roughly in 45-58ish% total for the day.

What foods are you eating that are high in fat during the day.

              Thanks.

                Carbs 4-5% total.

The Carbs seem to be right.

I think I have a high protein intake and need to reduce it and up my fat intake.

I tend to eat high protien as well. That is probably why I am hitting a platue right now. I didn't think of it in the high fat not high protien way.

But, I am right there with you. What can I eat that is just fat?

All I can think of is pork rinds and butter by the stick.

Exactly that is what my thought was, which I dont have a problem with neither of these items. I guess we can also include heavy cream to make something with since I don't drink coffee.

One of the things I do to up the fat percentages of meat is to use Mayonnaise on it. It tastes good, adds moisture to some of the more dry meats, and gets the fat up there.

                      Just a thought.

I agree good idea. I guess I will devour myself in butter, pork rinds and mayo. hehehe. Sounds delish.

I like to use butter or olive oil when I am cooking. I will put in on my vegs too. Watch out for the sodium in the pork rinds. They blow me right up. Have you tried eating a fattier cut of meat? Heavy cream is great for sauces too. Check out Linda's low carb site. It is my fav. for recipes. The * = induction safe on some of the recipes. Try them cause they are very good... tasting and wonderful to keep you on Atkins. She even has menus posted for her Low Carb WOE. Check them out and get some ideas

                            Re: Meat

I think you are making it overly complicated. If you are eating a lot of protein continually upping the fat so that the percentages stay right is not the right way to do it.

If you eat meals that have the foods that induction says you should be having, eat to appetite, and use fat in cooking and as a seasoning on veg or as mayo or whatever, it should sort of work out without becoming obsessed with percentages. It takes only a little fat to make the percentage change, just enough to make you meal tasty really.

For example, look at a meal of salmon with a mixed salad (my lunch to-day as it happens!) I had 4 oz of salmon (raw), lettuce, green onion, pepper and sugar snap peas. Before I cooked the salmon or dresses the salad, that was 34% fat,8% carb, 58% protein.

I fried the salmon in butter and had a tablespoon of mayonaise with the salad - hardly lorrying on the fat in any excessive or deliberate way, a tablespoon of mayo really isn't a lot. But that changed the percentage to 64% fat, 5% carb and 31% protein - a pretty much perfect Atkins meal. And it really didn't cause me to have to think about eating fatty things just for percentages - it just worked out that way.

Well said Kate. Good example of how to add fat into your meal to get the ratio for Atkins WOE. You are so very imformative. Great after pic too.
