  • Which Newbie Atkins book to buy?

Seems like I read that the best one as a newbie is the Atkins New Diet Revolution from 2002. I went on Amazon.com, and the only one I can find is only in a hardback version. Is this the right one? I am on a tight budget and I was hoping to get a cheap (really, really cheap ;~) used version. I also want to be sure to get the best one for me. I don't really need convincing about the science behind it as I already am a believer, but I do want to go up the "9 rungs" that I keep reading about here on this forum and eventually find out what my carb limit to prevent weightgain is.

Can someone help? I think there are 7 versions of this book on Amazon, and I am a bit confused at this point!

    Thanks,

    Tina

That's the right version, but it should be available in paperback.

Do you have charity shops near you (that sell donated stuff like clothes and books)? I see copies of the 2002 DANDR on the shelves most times I am looking for 'between clothes'.

I even buy spare copies there when I see them for under 50 pence (about a US dollar) so I dont have to lend out my own copy when people ask me how I am losing weight.

Re: Which Newbie Atkins book to buy?

Thanks--I finally found it on Amazon. I don't know why, but I had to click on one of the recipe books and find it in the "other buyers also bought..." category.

Yes Elizellen, we have 3 charity stores in our tiny little town. I might be able to go and look for it. I guess I am just busy and impatient and low on gas at the moment. If I order it used on Amazon on the cheapest shipping though, I suppose it will be shipped on the "slow boat to China".

I think I will go out this evening and look for it at the Goodwill store. Maybe I will get lucky.

In the meantime, I have the accepted foods list, and I am drooling over Linda Genaw's induction menus on her website link that I found recommended on this forum. I hope that will be sufficient.

Already, on my own and from reading forums, I have lost lots of inches in my belly (used to look 7-8 months pregnant, now just a slight pooch) and about 12 pounds in a couple of weeks. I do want to feel more like I know what I am doing, though. I read an Atkins book in 2000 or so, but I know that doesn't count for much as far as being proficient.

I have been glued to this site for several days now and have learned lots on this forum.

        Thanks to all!

            Thanks!

Well, I went to the Salvation Army store and bought one for 50 cents with 3 dates in it, the last copyright date being January 2002. It has a white cover says DRANDR, and it has a free carb counter inside, has "Completely Updated! The Must-Have New Edition. The one I saw in paperback on Amazon from 2002 had a red cover on it. I hope I bought the right one! I feel so ignorant...

They were printed in a variety of covers, so from the date it sounds about right to me!

                Great Deal....

I got mine on Amazon for $4.00 (w/ shipping) and thought that was fantastic. Oh well, after reading it I could have paid $40 dollars (gosh maybe $400?) for the value! It's worth a million. My warning about reading it (as a fellow newbie ) You can't put it down and it gets a bit emotional when you think Dr. Atkins is talking directly to you. I think reading the book has changed my life! <<< quite the mush, sorry >>>

Yes, I did get a great deal. The book is in excellent shape with no markings, turned down pages or anything. Just a bit of yellowing from age. Now, I just have to find the time to read it. Really read it, that is.
